Houthis Claim Ballistic Missile Strike on Israel's Ben Gurion Airport

Ahmed Emam
Yemen's Houthi rebels said on Thursday that they had launched a ballistic missile at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, according to Alqahera News.
The group offered no evidence to support the claim, and there were no immediate reports from Israeli authorities or local media confirming an attack on the airport, Israel's primary international gateway.
The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have escalated their regional operations in recent months, targeting Red Sea shipping lanes and threatening Israeli interests in response to the ongoing war in Gaza. A strike on Ben Gurion Airport, if verified, would mark a significant expansion of their reach and raise the stakes in the broader Middle East conflict.
Israeli officials have not yet issued a statement regarding the Houthi announcement. The situation remains fluid.

Kurdish PKK militants burn weapons in landmark step to end decades-long Turkey conflict

CNN — A ceremony in northern Iraq on Friday saw a handful of A ceremony in northern Iraq on Friday saw a handful of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants lay down their weapons, a small but hugely symbolic gesture that marks the beginning of an end to a conflict with the Turkish state that's lasted nearly five decades and cost tens of thousands of lives. Politicians and observers gathered for the ceremony held in the ancient cave of Casene near the town of Sulaymaniyah, where about 30 men and women from the militant group placed their weapons in a large cauldron that was later set on fire. The PKK fighters announced in a statement their intent to continue the 'struggle for freedom' through 'democratic politics and legal means.' 'We hereby, of our own free will, and in your presence, destroy our weapons,' the statement said. Turkish news channels breathlessly reported on the ceremony although, aside from a small group of invited observers, journalists were not allowed into the area. Turkish channels showed helicopters flying over the cave where the ceremony was expected to take place. Convoys of white pick-up trucks and black vans were seen driving to the area. A senior Turkish official said Friday's move was an 'irreversible turning point' and described it as a 'milestone.' Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the day's events an 'important step' on the 'path to our goal of a terrorism-free Turkey.' 'May Almighty God grant us success in achieving our goals on this path we walk for the security of our country, the peace of our nation, and the establishment of lasting peace in our region,' he said in a post on X. Iraq's foreign ministry also welcomed the PKK's announcement, writing in a statement that it 'considers this step a significant development that embodies a concrete beginning toward disarmament.' In May, the PKK, which is listed as a terror group in Turkey, the United States and the European Union, announced it would cease 'all activities' and dissolve after a call from its jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan. The Kurdish issue has come 'to a point where it can be resolved through democratic politics,' the PKK said in a statement at the time. Founded by Ocalan in 1978, the PKK has waged a war against the Turkish state for decades. The group initially fought for an independent state in the Turkey's predominantly Kurdish southeast. But in recent years, it has called for more autonomy and more comprehensive cultural rights within the country instead. This is not the first time that Erdogan has tried to end the conflict, which is estimated to have killed more than 40,000 people. He courted the Kurdish vote in earlier years by granting them more rights and reversing restrictions on the use of their language. Shwan Mohammed/AFP/Getty Images In 2013, Erdogan worked with the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party on the brief peace process with the PKK. Those talks collapsed in 2015, leading to crackdowns against the pro-Kurdish party, which has been accused by the Turkish government of having links to the PKK and its affiliates. Selahattin Demirtas, a popular Kurdish politician and co-leader of the Peoples' Democratic Party who once ran as a presidential candidate, remains in jail after being detained in 2016 and charged with 'vague and wide-reaching accusations' including 'undermining the unity and territorial integrity of the State,' according to Human Rights Watch. Kurds are the biggest minority in Turkey, making up between 15% and 20% of the population, according to Minority Rights Group International. They also have a significant presence in northern Syria, northern Iraq and Iran.

Emergency 911 Systems Go down in Pennsylvania

Rana Atef On Friday, the state of Pennsylvania is racing to address an issue with its emergency 911 systems. The issue was reported via an emergency alert as a 'statewide intermittent 911 outage.' However, Randy Padfield, the state's Emergency Management Director, said it isn't an outage. According to CBS News Philadelphia, sources said that it's a third-party company IT issue. The company is contracted with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. Padfield said it's too soon to identify the reasons behind the issue, expecting that it could be a software or hardware problem. "Pennsylvania is experiencing a statewide intermittent 911 outage. Individuals experiencing issues contacting 911 are asked to contact their local 911 Center on their non-Emergency lines,' the alert stated. "The system continues to have some intermittent connectivity issues at this point in time. They are still trying to troubleshoot," Padfield added. During his latest update, Padfield said it appeared that most 911 calls were going through, but he added that there were some 'intermittent issues' with the calls. "Individuals should continue to use 911, and if they would call 911 for an emergency and the call is not delivered, they should use the backup seven-digit administrative line or follow the instructions of their local 911 center or public safety answering point," said Padfield. 'We are on top of the issue and working to restore full service as quickly as possible,' Governor Josh Shapiro said in a statement on X. 'In the meantime — stay calm, follow the directions of PEMA and local authorities, and do not call 911 for any reason other than an emergency.' read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Engine Fuel Supply Cut off Named Key Reason for Air India Jet Crash, Says Report

Rana Atef On Saturday, media reports indicated that the key reason for the Air India crash is a cut in the fuel supply to the engines. The plane was crashed shortly before taking off, causing the killing of 260 people. According to the report by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, cited by CNN, the fuel control switches in the cockpit of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner had been flipped, starving the engines of fuel. Investigators checked the data out of the plane's 'black box' recorders. The aircraft had reached an airspeed of 180 knots when both engines' fuel cutoff switches were 'transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF position one after another with a time gap of 01 sec,' according to the report. 'In the cockpit voice recording, one of the pilots is heard asking the other why did he cutoff. The other pilot responded that he did not do so,' the report reads. 'When fuel control switches are moved from CUTOFF to RUN while the aircraft is inflight, each engines full authority dual engine control automatically manages a relight and thrust recovery sequence of ignition and fuel introduction,' the report added. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream
