This successful run underscores system readiness and represents a firm step forward towards full-scale operations.At present, 55 km of the corridor with 11 stations is already operational for commuters. Trial runs, along with final finishing works, are progressing rapidly on the remaining sections i.e. 4.5 km between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and about 23 km between Meerut South and Modipuram in Meerut. advertisementThis milestone signifies a crucial advancement toward the full commissioning of the entire corridor.Trial runs of the Meerut Metro are also underway on the stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram Depot. RRTS deadlock holds up new metro line's Cyber City station in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: Uncertainty over the exact location of the proposed rapid rail (RRTS) station at Cyber City has derailed integrated planning for the Gurgaon Metro project. The Gurgaon Metro station at Cyber City is to be integrated with RRTS and the existing Rapid Metro network. NCR Transport Corporation, which is building rapid rail, initially planned to construct the RRTS station on the green belt along the expressway near Shankar Chowk. But the industrial authority has shown reluctance in handing over the land, citing concerns over congestion, sources said. GMRL invited bids for geotechnical investigation on the 16km section of Phase 2 between Sector 9 and Cyber City last month. In Feb, senior officials from NCRTC, GMRL and HSIIDC visited Shankar Chowk to explore options for creating an integrated transport hub. The idea was to allow seamless passenger transfers between RRTS, the new metro corridor from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City and the existing Rapid Metro. Originally approved by Haryana govt in 2019, the alignment of the RRTS corridor, which followed the Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road, was revised in Aug 2023 to run along NH8. This realignment prompted GMRL to shift its metro route from the initial Rao Gajraj Singh Marg to an alternate alignment via Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road and Shankar Chowk Road. The move would reduce land acquisition hurdles, avoid defence land and boost ridership. However, the revised alignment hinges on the finalisation of the RRTS station location at Shankar Chowk. NCRTC requested land from HSIIDC for an underground station, but officials raised concerns about the impact on already heavy traffic volumes in the area, which caters to commuters from Udyog Vihar, Manesar and the Golf Course Road. Some of the greenbelt near Shankar Chowk was handed over to NHAI during the widening of the surface road. The new alignment includes 22 stations, passing through Cyber City, IFFCO Chowk and Signature Towers. However, the revised detailed project report is still awaiting approval from the Union cabinet. In Aug 2023, authorities decided to develop the Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB RRTS corridor in two phases—first from Sarai Kale Khan to Dharuhera and later extending to SNB. However, in a meeting chaired by Union minister for housing and urban affairs Manohar Lal Khattar and co-chaired by Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini last year, it was decided to develop the entire corridor at once. Meanwhile, momentum is building on other fronts of the metro project. A joint venture of Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting (DBEC) and Hill International has been shortlisted for the role of general consultant (GC) for the Gurgaon Metro. "Negotiations with the consortium were held in Chandigarh on Friday and the contract will be awarded shortly," the official said.

RRTS corridor set for early July inauguration as final trials conclude
Meerut: With the successful completion of a full-scale trial run, the country's first high-speed Namo Bharat project -- worth Rs 30,270 crore -- is expected to be inaugurated in the first week of July. The service will cover an 82 km stretch from Pallav Puram in Meerut to Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi in under an hour. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) announced that the project has successfully conducted a full-length timetable trial run between Sarai Kale Khan and Modipuram. During these trials, the Namo Bharat trains operated at their maximum operational speed of 160 km/h and stopped at every station. In a first for India, the Meerut Metro also ran simultaneously on the same infrastructure. According to NCRTC sources, while finishing touches continue at stations, the entry and exit points have been completed. "Once security clearances are granted, which is expected to take about a week, it will only be a matter of time before the corridor becomes fully operational," said Puneet Vats, CPRO, NCRTC. He added, "At present, a 4.5 km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and roughly 23 km between Meerut South and Modipuram in Meerut, remain to be operational. Meanwhile, work is progressing round-the-clock on the 23 km Meerut Metro section, which includes 13 stations (18 km elevated and 5 km underground)." The foundation stone for the project was laid in March 2019, and construction began in June that year. The first phase, a priority 17 km stretch from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, became operational on Oct 20, 2023. Since then, other sections have been inaugurated in a phased manner. Currently, 55 km of the corridor, with 11 stations, is operational.
