Haryana to install vehicle tracking devices on all public transport vehicles
The Haryana government has decided to equip all public transport vehicles with
vehicle location tracking devices
(VLTDs), according to an official statement issued Monday. The move aims to enhance safety, particularly for women and children.

report, the decision was taken at a meeting of the state transport department chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. He directed that department- or district-wise targets be set to ensure timely implementation and asked officials to integrate the tracking system with emergency response service '112'.
The VLTD system, developed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under the
Nirbhaya framework
, provides real-time location data and emergency alert features.
'This initiative is expected to be a milestone in establishing a safe transport system for women in the state,' the statement said.
Inspections, compliance and revenue focus
Expressing concern over road accidents, the Chief Minister instructed officials to carry out detailed investigations into each incident to identify and address gaps. He also directed that school transport vehicles undergo regular inspections with attention to their technical condition.
'All school buses must undergo regular inspections,' he said. 'Non-compliance with rules and guidelines should result in challans and vehicle seizure. The safety of children is our responsibility.'
He further directed Haryana Roadways drivers to submit medical certificates at regular intervals.
To address the revenue deficit in the transport sector, Saini asked officials to explore commercial opportunities such as advertising on buses.
In a review of the city bus service, the Chief Minister called for an increase in the number of electric buses and the establishment of charging stations. Officials informed him that the procurement process for 375 electric buses under the City Bus Service scheme is underway. Under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, steps are being taken to purchase an additional 250 electric buses.

New Delhi, Jul 1 (PTI) The ban on supply of fuel to old vehicles kicked off in Delhi on Tuesday amid high security. The Delhi government has installed Automatic Number Plate reader cameras (ANPR) at nearly 350 petrol pumps across the national capital for detection of such vehicles. The transport department has chalked out a detailed deployment plan involving personnel from its organisation, Delhi Police, Traffic Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Multiple teams of transport department, traffic police and local police have been deployed at different petrol pumps in South Delhi. The drive began from 6 am on Tuesday, enforcing the prohibition of fuel sale to petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years. At Chirag Delhi's Dhingra petrol pump, the Transport Enforcement and Delhi Traffic Police teams were seen stationed since early morning. "We are here from 6 am to ensure that no old vehicle is allowed to refuel. Petrol pumps have been directed to deny fuel to such vehicles," said Sub-Inspector Dharamveer of the Transport Enforcement team. He said that Artificial Intelligence-powered cameras and automated hooter systems have also been installed at the pump to identify old vehicles. "If any such vehicle arrives, the cameras detect it instantly and trigger a hooter to alert the staff," said Dharamveer, adding that in such cases, the vehicles are being impounded on the spot. Assistant Sub-Inspector Jagan Lal of Delhi Traffic Police said that they are verifying vehicle details using their central database. "The cameras will inform automatically, but our teams are also checking vehicles using our central database. The drive is being carried out jointly with local police and transport officials to ensure full compliance and to maintain law and order," said ASI Jagan Lal. Hriday Ram, a staff member at the Dhingra petrol pump, said, "We have been instructed not to fill fuel in any old vehicle. By the time police reached the spot, the accused had fled. They were, however, stopped near the police station gate. Meanwhile, a large number of local businessmen also gathered at the police station. The situation worsened when it was found that the Nihang pilgrims were carrying several sharp weapons, including kulhars, large double-edged swords, knives, and axes — apart from the swords and kirpans they traditionally carry as part of their religious beliefs. A heated argument broke out between the two sides, which soon turned into a brawl. New Delhi, Jun 30 (PTI) The CBI will start questioning bank officials under scanner for allegedly facilitating the operations of 8.5 lakh mule accounts in a 'pan India conspiracy' with cyber crime syndicates to launder crime proceeds, agency officials said. The CBI has registered the FIR after a preliminary inquiry that showed cyber crime syndicates operating with impunity with the alleged connivance of unidentified bank officials to deliberately facilitate a clandestine network of mule accounts used to launder illicit proceeds from digital frauds. The probe has found 8.50 lakh such accounts in 743 branches of various banks across the country that sent the alarm bells ringing about the extent of the menace. The inquiry was coverted into the FIR and raids were conducted last week during which 10 individuals were arrested. The CBI has named 37 individuals in the FIR as accused. The agency detected that there were two kinds of mule accounts — cyber and money. While cyber mule accounts were small accounts, money mule accounts were exhibiting multiple transactions in a span of few days and aggregate amount was crossing the threshold to red flag them. Existing Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines unequivocally mandate the generation of an STR if an account is identified as a money mule. In case no STR is filed, it is considered a non-compliance of the RBI circular. The pernicious fraud allegedly involved cyber criminals employing deceptive means, including impersonation, misrepresentation, and the use of forged documents to defraud and extort money from victims, the CBI officials said. The CBI has alleged that banks also failed to do 'enhanced due diligence' in violation of the RBI circulars that stress for EDD and rigorous risk categorisation based on customer identity and business activity. 'High-risk accounts have to be subjected to more intense monitoring. However, despite certain areas having high concentration of mule accounts, it has emerged that bank officers were not adopting enhanced due diligence on the suspicious bank accounts,' the CBI FIR said. The inquiry showed that bank officials frequently neglected to procure vital information regarding the customer's source of funds, the explicit purpose of the business relationship, or other details imperative for vigilant account monitoring. The inquiry starkly revealed instances where bank accounts were opened using forged documents, and in some cases, without the knowledge or consent of the purported account holder. Several accounts belonging to illiterate persons were systematically exploited in the cyber fraud. These accounts were often opened through banking correspondents, circumventing traditional branch oversight, thereby granting unfettered access to UPI and online transactions, the FIR said. The agency also found that branches displayed a significant lapse in security by not despatching acknowledgement or 'Thank You' letters post-account opening, an indirect yet critical failure in effective address verification as stipulated by certain internal banking circulars. The role of middleman has also emerged who facilitated the opening of mule accounts into which the proceeds of cyber crime was routed from the account of a cyber fraud victim. 'The middlemen connived with the banking correspondents and bank officials for the purpose of opening of mule accounts and their operation,' the agency alleged.
