Have appealed to the Centre for Rs 11,122.76 crore funds for six irrigation projects in Karnataka: DK Shivakumar
Addressing a press conference at Karnataka Bhawan, Shivakumar said, 'We have appealed to the Centre for Rs 11,122.76 funds for six irrigation projects in the state - Rs 804.66 crore for Sonnathi lift irrigation project; Rs 2,660.70 crore for Indi branch canal in Upper Krishna project; Rs 3000 crore for third stage of Malaprabha canal; Rs 1,44.42 crore for Ghataprabha right bund canal and Chikkodi branch canal; Rs 1610 crore for flood prevention project at Benne Halla. We have learnt that one project has been approved, but we are yet to receive official confirmation.'
'We have also appealed for 25% of the funds for the Yettinahole project, as it is a drinking water project. There were some complications for the project due to the Forest Department not issuing clearance. The Union Minister for Environment has assured that the issue would be resolved soon,' he said.
Replying to a question on the Upper Bhadra project, Shivakumar said, 'We have asked for funds for this project too. We have submitted the revised cost estimates as asked by the Centre, and they have said the funds would be released. There is no guarantee until the funds hit the state government's account.'
When pointed to repeated promises but no action by the Centre on the release of funds for the Upper Bhadra project, he said, 'You have to ask the Centre if they don't have funds or they are doing politics over this. They had asked about the expenditure on the project till now, and we have submitted all the relevant documents.'
Asked why the Rs 5,300 funds for Upper Bhadra are getting delayed despite the Centre announcing it, he said, 'What to do? The Congress government came to power in the state.'
Shivakumar further said, 'Goa has said that we have objected to its request to lay a power transmission line through Karnataka. We have told them that we would support them if they support us on the Kalasa-Bhanduri project. The Union Environment Minister has told us that he will convey his opinion on this in a week. I have informed him that I would meet him before the Monsoon session of the Parliament.'
He also explained, 'The Centre had given a go-ahead for the Kalasa-Bhanduri project when Karnataka had a BJP government. Based on that approval, our government had called for tenders. But the Goa government issued us a show cause notice in 2023, and the case is in the court now. We have brought this issue to the attention of the Union Environment Minister. Goa does not have any locus standi to object to work in our state. We have already moved court regarding this.'
The Deputy Chief Minister stated that the government has requested approval for the Detailed Project Report of the Mekedatu project.
'We have appealed to the Union Jal Shakthi minister to give us approval for the DPR of the Mekedatu project. The DPR is in line with the order given by the Cauvery Water Management Authority. We have told the Union minister to submit its report to the court so that the court can pass a judgment. We have also conveyed to the minister that the project benefits Tamil Nadu. He has assured us that he would speak to Tamil Nadu about this.'
'A meeting on sharing of Krishna water was cancelled last time, and the Union Jal Shakthi minister has assured us that a meeting would be scheduled in July itself. Though the Tribunal's order has allowed us to increase the height of the Alamatti dam, we are not allowed to do it as the Centre has yet to issue a Gazette notification on the same. I have appealed to the Union minister to call for a meeting among Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He has assured that the meeting would be held before the Parliament session,' he said.

Thiruvananthapuram, July 12 (UNI) Bank Employees Federation of India has alleged that the Centre's move to sell shares of State Bank of India (SBI) worth Rs 25,000 crore SBI) is an open attempt to privatize the bank in a phased manner sacrificing national interests. "In 2017, the bank had sold 522 million shares. This reduced the government's stake in the bank to 56.92 percent. Now, with the completion of the targeted share sale, the government's stake will diminish below 55 percent," BEFI vice president Saji Varghese said. "The sale of shares through qualified institutional placement has been reported by national media," he added. "Despite the vacancies of about one lakh employees and officers, the outsourcing of jobs and the deployment of daily wage workers without making them permanent is a prelude to privatization... After the budget presentation, the Union Finance Minister had announced that government would sell shares of public sector banks including SBI. Other public sector banks are also preparing for share sale" he said. The privatization of the country's largest public sector bank, SBI, will have far-reaching consequences. Public sector banks serve as a protective shield for the Indian economy. It is this protective shield that is being undermined through bank privatization, he stated. "As banks come under the control of corporates, services for the common people will get affected and services will be limited to the elite class," he added. The SBI plans to support loan growth, strengthen its balance sheet and meet regulatory requirements. Shah directs to increase capacity of STP for Yamuna to 1500 MGD by 2028
New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah today chaired a high-level review meeting on Yamuna rejuvenation here today and directed to increase the capacity of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for Yamuna to 1500 MGD by 2028. The meeting was attended by Union Ministers Manohar Lal, CR Patil, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Home Secretary, Secretaries and senior officials. Addressing the meeting, Shah said that the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) should work in action mode to control water pollution. He said that the Delhi government should take continuous and effective steps to stop the increasing pollution from industrial units, a Home Ministry statement said. Shah said that apart from Delhi, chemicals are also coming into the Yamuna River through waste from other states, so all these states should work together to clean the river. The Home Minister emphasised on working on an action mode to improve the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) in the main drains of Najafgarh and Shahdara. He also stressed on conducting a drone survey of Delhi's two main drains, Najafgarh and Shahdara drains. He said that apart from the efforts being made by the Delhi government to clean the rivers, there is a need to increase the budget of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). Shah laid special emphasis on cleaning the Yamuna as well as increasing the capacity of STPs. He directed to increase the STP capacity to 1500 MGD by 2028. He said that all three states, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, should make efforts for Yamuna's rejuvenation and there should be regularity and transparency in testing of the water flowing out of their STPs. Moreover, he also emphasized on third party quality testing of STP outflow. There are many reservoirs in Delhi in which the Delhi government should make arrangements to collect rainwater. Developing these reservoirs will also promote tourism," Shah said. He said that the Delhi government should work in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to manage the waste produced by dairies and cow shelters and also stressed on managing the unauthorized dairies in the national capital. Laying special emphasis on increasing the e-flow in Yamuna, Shah said that there is a need to talk to the Uttar Pradesh government on this issue and find a solution so that the flow of Yamuna can be improved at the time of its entry into Delhi. He said that the treated water of Okhla STP should be released downstream of Yamuna which will help in improving the quality of the river water. The Minister said that a detailed survey should be conducted regarding water supply in Delhi, so that it can be ascertained how much water is required to be supplied for catering one and all living in Delhi. Uncontrolled water extraction through borewells is a big problem in Delhi, on which the Delhi Jal Board needs to work by making an action plan. "Non-Hindus must be removed from TTD jobs immediately: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay
Tirumala (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 12 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar raised strong objections to the employment of non-Hindus in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) during his visit to Tirumala on his birthday on Friday. Addressing the media after offering prayers at the Lord Venkateswara temple, he questioned, 'How can non-Hindus be given jobs in TTD?' Why are they still being retained even after changes in governments and administrations? What action is being taken when over a thousand non-Hindus are employed in TTD? They must be removed from their positions immediately.' 'TTD should allocate funds to support temples, especially those that are unable to afford even the basic rituals like dhupa-deepa-naivedyam, ' he said, stating that it was unacceptable that non-Hindus are currently working in TTD despite lacking belief in Hinduism or the deity. 'Would mosques or churches ever employ a Hindu wearing a bottu (sacred mark on the forehead)? No, they wouldn't. So why are non-Hindus being given jobs in TTD? Continuing this practice, even after changes in government, is not right. I strongly demand their immediate removal,' he said, demanding their immediate removal. Sanjay asserted, 'Tirumala belongs to Hindus. If non-Hindus or foreigners want to visit the deity, a faith declaration is mandatory. Unfortunately, over a thousand non-Hindus are working in TTD, many of whom do not believe in Hinduism or the deity. Why are such people being employed and retained?' 'This is unacceptable. Their presence is affecting the religious traditions and rituals of the temple. Why are we paying salaries to people who don't even believe in the deity? Hindus across the country are opposing this. It's not enough to say they were appointed a long time ago, this practice must stop immediately.', Sanjay added. On the occasion of his birthday, the minister said, 'I prayed to the Lord that every citizen should live happily and peacefully. We must all unite for the protection of Sanatana Dharma, support each other, and work together for a strong and prosperous India. I prayed for Prime Minister Modi to be blessed with good health and a long life, as he continues to work tirelessly for national development and public welfare.' Sanjay asserted that vote bank politics should not dictate the functioning of sacred institutions, adding, 'Retaining those who act against Sanatana Dharma is wrong. Vote bank politics should not dictate the functioning of a sacred institution like TTD. This is the property of Hindus.' Highlighting the plight of neglected temples, especially in the Telugu-speaking states, he urged TTD to take urgent steps. 'Many ancient temples and small shrines are struggling even for daily rituals. TTD should identify such temples and allocate funds for their restoration and development on a war footing.' He further demanded the immediate construction of the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Karimnagar, for which the foundation has already been laid. He also called for special funds to be earmarked for the Illandakunta Rama Temple and the Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple. (ANI)
