Report: Jared Dudley to join Nuggets as top assistant coach

Reuters2 days ago
July 3 - Jared Dudley is leaving the Dallas Mavericks' coaching staff to join the Denver Nuggets as an assistant coach under David Adelman, ESPN reported Thursday.
Dudley, who turns 40 next week, retired from the NBA in 2021 and immediately took on a role as an assistant coach with the Mavericks under head coach Jason Kidd.
Dudley is expected to move into the main assistant role under Adelman, who was named interim head coach of the Nuggets on April 8 when head coach Michael Malone was fired. Adelman was named the full-time head coach on May 22 after Denver advanced to the Western Conference semifinals.
In 14 NBA seasons with seven teams, including seven seasons with the Phoenix Suns, Dudley averaged 7.3 points with 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists over 904 games (286 starts). He won an NBA title in 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers.
This move is among others on the Mavericks bench. ESPN reported Wednesday that Frank Vogel, who was the head coach of the Lakers in that 2019-20 championship season, is becoming Kidd's lead assistant.
In addition, ESPN said Dallas player development coach God Shammgod is moving to the Orlando Magic as an assistant coach.

Tearful Emma Raducanu reveals showdown talks with coach Mark Petchey after Wimbledon exit

FIGHTING back the tears, Emma Raducanu said she will hold showdown talks with coach Mark Petchey about their future working arrangement. But she claims she will head next month to New York – the scene of her greatest triumph – brimming with confidence she CAN match the world's best. 3 Raducanu, 22, ate a KitKat chocolate bar in the locker room after her two-hour two-set slugfest with world No1 Aryna Sabalenka on Friday night. For those who had doubted whether the Brit would ever replicate the magical form she showed when lifting the US Open four years ago, this was a demonstration of her abilities. Though she fell short, and was unable to capitalise on two clutch moments in set two, she earned widespread respect for slugging it out with the three-time Grand Slam champion on Centre Court. Petchey, who joined her team on a part-time basis in March, has had a transformative impact on her form and demeanour but there is no guarantee that coaching gig will continue. The former tennis player earns a decent living as a respected TV analyst but has to decide now whether to give that all up to sit in Raducanu's box. Raducanu said: 'It's very difficult. He obviously also has his commentating commitments. 'He agreed to help me until the end of Wimbledon and then we kind of see from there. 'Because he gave up some work to work with me here, which I really appreciate and I'm grateful for. 'That's a conversation that we need to have after a few days and the dust settles a little bit.' Clutching a tissue and sniffling constantly, Raducanu had slightly red eyes when she addressed the world's media following her exit. It has been an emotional summer for the Kent-based superstar, one in which she has faced security concerns and received 'some pretty bad news' during her run in Eastbourne. But as self-critical as she is about her own displays, she is proud of how she competed toe-for-toe with Sabalenka, 27, especially in a 74-minute opening set under a closed roof. And that only bodes well for the hard-court swing in North America. 'IT GIVES ME CONFIDENCE' Raducanu – who will play the Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington later this month – said: 'It's hard to take a loss like that. 'It does give me confidence because I think the problem before was that I felt like I was gulfs away from the very top. 'Having a match like that where I had chances in both sets, it does give me confidence. At the same time, it's very difficult to take right now. 'It gives me confidence that I'm not as far away as I perhaps thought before the tournament. 'Before when I was playing those top-five players, it was pretty convincing, the loss. 'IT'S A BIT OF A LEVELLER' 'I feel like grass for me is a great surface. It's a bit of a leveller in that sense. 'Taking it onto a different surface where it's a lot more lively in America is another challenge in itself. 'There's still a lot of things that I want to do better, a lot of things I want to improve to solidify my game, so that in the big moments I can back myself a little bit more. 'I don't think I've really had a loss like this in a long time, where I feel like I maybe had chances and didn't take them. Usually I'm pretty good at converting. 'In the big moments, Aryna was able to convert. She was able to hit some incredible shots. 'I just need to keep working and get back to the drawing board and improve a lot more.' 3

WNBA players' jealousy of superstar Caitlin Clark laid bare by TV analysts as calls for her to start her own league intensify

Calls are intensifying for WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark to go it alone and create her own league, after multiple TV analysts opened up on rival players' 'jealousy' of her. Clark was voted the league's ninth-best guard by her peers last week, which led to outrage in the media, who claimed she should start a breakaway league to prove how necessary she has been to the rise in popularity of the WNBA. Now, a week on, the 'jealousy' of the rest of the league has been laid bare by basketball icon Dick Vitale and others. Speaking to Front Office Sports, the legendary announcer - nicknamed Dickie V - said: 'I feel strongly that various players don't give Caitlin Clark the respect she deserves. 'What she has done to help the WNBA has been unbelievable. Think about it. PR excitement. Ticket sales. TV ratings and interest. Salary increases. More charter flights than the past. Plus, she is so exciting to watch. Lots of jealousy!' Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd backed up Vitale's point with his own comments on air, claiming the voting of rival players showed their 'pettiness has no bounds'. 'For years, the WNBA players were pointing fingers,' he began. 'They were saying, "People are sexist, the media is sexist, we're not being promoted, we're underappreciated." 'And then they get the Golden Goose and they don't like what it looks like. I've said this for years — when the wave hits, ride it. You don't know what it looks like, don't fight it.' Outkick's Clay Travis, meanwhile, has led calls for Clark to quit the WNBA and start her own rival league, claiming she is 'worth more than the entire WNBA'. 'It's a no-brainer,' he claimed in a recent article on his website. WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert would have a huge problem on her hands if Clark quits Legendary ESPN voice Dick Vitale has opened up on WNBA players' jealousy of Clark On various occasions this season, Clark has been sidelined with injury and TV viewership has plummeted in her absence, sometimes down by as much as 40%. The Indiana Fever won the Commissioner's Cup earlier this month and during the celebrations, Clark hinted at some unhappiness with the salaries paid to the players. On a live stream recorded by her teammate Sydney Colson, Clark could be heard making a plea to commissioner Cathy Engelbert. 'We get more for [winning the Commissioner's Cup] than you do if you're a [WNBA] champion,' she said. 'Makes no sense! Someone tell Cathy to help us out. Cathy, help us out!'

Ailing Deion Sanders expected to return to work soon

July 5 - Colorado coach Deion Sanders, who has been suffering from an undisclosed medical condition, is expected to be back on the job soon. That's according to former NFL cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, who recently went fishing with Sanders at his Texas estate. Jones posted a video of his comments, made in a BetOnline interview, to his Instagram account. "Deion's doing good," Jones said. "I think he got another week at home before they get started. He'll be there. He'll be ready to go." "Thanks to everybody that has been praying and sending good thoughts and prayers his way," Jones added. Sanders, 57, posted a video to his Instagram account two days ago following a visit to his estate by Lil Wayne. Sanders is seen walking, a bit gingerly, with the rapper. Neither Sanders nor Colorado officials have given specifics about the nature of the health issue the coach is facing. He has been away from Boulder, missing annual youth camps he normally would have attended. He is scheduled to attend a Big 12 preseason media event on Wednesday in Frisco, Texas. Sanders addressed his health in a social media post on June 11. "I can assure you all that everything is OK and will continue to be so," he posted to X. .".. I'm excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program. When we arrive back to Boulder you will be updated on everything." A member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Sanders required multiple surgeries for persistent blood clots in recent years. He had two toes amputated in 2021 to address clotting issues, but it is unclear whether that is related to his current health status. The Buffaloes open the season at home on Aug. 29 against Georgia Tech. --Field Level Media
