Motoring Influencer Suspected Of Faking Disappearance, Fleeing Abroad

MUAR, July 19 (Bernama) -- Motoring influencer Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin, 38, who was reported missing after his car allegedly plunged into Sungai Tui, Jalan Bukit Kepong here last Monday, is believed to have staged his own disappearance and fled to a neighbouring country.
Muar police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said investigations showed that the suspect's younger brother was also involved by providing false information for personal reasons.
He said Tengku Abd Aziz, 30, lodged a report at the Lenga Police Station claiming that his brother, also known as Ija, went missing while heading to Muar to repair his car.
"A search and rescue operation was launched after the case was classified as a missing person. However, further investigation raised doubts about the report, and police believe the disappearance was fabricated.
"Investigations also revealed that the suspect had submerged his wife's Perodua Axia in the river before fleeing to a neighbouring country. His brother later admitted to being complicit and pretending to help with the search," he said in a statement today.
Raiz Mukhliz said statements from both individuals have been recorded and further investigation will proceed once police obtain an order to investigate (OTI) from the deputy public prosecutor.
The case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information and Section 109 for abetting a criminal offence.
Earlier, media reported that the man, a businessman and vehicle accessories shop owner, had gone missing after the Perodua Axia he was driving was believed to have plunged into the river.

Foreign student to be charged today over slashed ex-girlfriend at university

SUBANG JAYA: The foreign student accused of slashing his ex-girlfriend in the neck with a knife at a private university here will be charged today. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the suspect would be taken to the Shah Alam Sessions Court to face charges under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means. If convicted, the offence carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment, a fine or both. "We have been instructed by the deputy public prosecutor to produce the suspect in court today," he said when contacted. In the incident on July 14, the suspect allegedly attacked his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend with a knife, causing injuries to the left side of her neck. It was reported that police recorded statements from 12 individuals as part of the investigation into the stabbing of the female student at a private higher learning institution recently. Ipoh senior citizen loses RM158,000 in phone scam

IPOH: A 73-year-old man has lost RM158,000 in a phone scam involving individuals impersonating insurance agent and policemen. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the victim lodged a police report yesterday after realising he had been duped by the scammers. Abang Zainal Abidin said the victim had made 12 separate transactions into 12 different bank accounts, purportedly as part of a police investigation. "The victim first received a call from someone claiming to represent an insurance company, alleging that he had outstanding payments. "The call was then transferred to another individual who claimed to be a policeman from the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters. "The victim was told he was under investigation for money laundering involving over RM2 million and that an arrest warrant had been issued against him," he said in a statement yesterday. He added that, in a state of panic, the victim was allegedly threatened and instructed to transfer funds, purportedly for bail and to facilitate an internal investigation. "This is a typical modus operandi used by scam syndicates, instilling fear and urgency in the victim before coercing them into transferring money under the pretence of avoiding legal action," he said. Following the police report, he said an investigation has been opened under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. The offence carries a maximum penalty of ten years' jail, whipping, and a fine if convicted. He added that efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects and the owners of the bank accounts used in the scam. He also urged the public to be vigilant when receiving unsolicited calls, especially those claiming to be from enforcement agencies or financial institutions. "We want to remind the public that neither the police nor any financial institution will ever request banking details or ask for payments over the phone under any circumstances," he said.
