₹ 1L reward for information on smuggler Salim Dola
Dola, who is believed to be abroad, is wanted by the NCB for his alleged involvement in the seizure of 20 kg of Mephedrone, commonly known as MD, from the Dongri area two years ago. The 57-year-old had supplied the contraband to the accused from whom it was seized, said NCB sources. Subsequently, a non-bailable warrant was issued against Dola by a local court while the Interpol issued a Red Corner Notice against him following the NCB's request, the sources mentioned.
In the notice issued to the public on Wednesday, the NCB said that information related to Dola's whereabouts can be submitted to its additional director in Mumbai via telephone (022-22620428) and email (zdmzu-ncb@nic.in). Name and other identification details of potential informants would be kept 'strictly confidential', the notice mentioned.
In May, a city-based narcotics trafficker with international linkages, who was allegedly involved in the seizure of 20 kg MD, was placed under preventive detention as per provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. He was later transferred from the Arthur Road prison to Chennai's Puzhal Central Prison and the NCB froze his assets worth ₹6.4 crore, suspected to be proceeds from his drug-trafficking activities.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had, in June, secured the deportation of Dola's son, Taher, an accused in a ₹252-crore synthetic drug case, from the United Arab Emirates. Taher was wanted by the Mumbai police for allegedly operating an illegal MD-manufacturing unit in Sangli. Mumbai police had seized 126.14 kg MD from the facility, valued at approximately ₹252 crore, in March 2024.

The letter issued on the same stated, "As per provisions of the National Narcotics Coordination Portal, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau, has been advised to stop, prevent and discourage the sale of dual-use medicines without prescription and an advisory dated first August 2024 on this matter was already issued earlier." The Schedule H drugs are some of the most commonly used medicines, such as painkillers and seasonal flu drugs. They are usually the highest-selling over-the-counter drugs, though technically they require a prescription. For the Schedule H1 drugs, regulations are stricter. Chemists are required to maintain a register of their sales, including details of the prescribing doctor and the patient. The last category, Schedule X drugs, falls under the strictest regulatory category. They typically include psychotropic substances and cannot be sold without a valid medical prescription. Their storage and sale are closely monitored due to potential misuse. All the pharmacies and chemists have been advised to install cameras by the end of this month.

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has blamed Pakistan for the drug menace in Himachal Pradesh and called for serious action against it. She was reacting to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla's 'Udta Punjab' remark. Talking to the media on the sidelines of the Monsoon session of Parliament on Friday, the Mandi MP said, 'Drug coming to Himachal Pradesh from Pakistan via Punjab is affecting youth and families in the state...' The actor-turned-politician likened the drug situation in Himachal to that in Punjab and said, 'The situation of drugs in Himachal is so dire that if a strict action isn't initiated soon, the state will become like some of those Punjab villages which only have windows and females now.' Ranaut also called the Himachali kids very 'gullible, naive and simple,' and said that they are now 'opting for theft; they have sold their parents' jewellery, are stealing cars' for drugs. 'Parents come to us crying. (The kids) lock themselves in rooms, break furniture, scream, and cry for help. This (drugs) is worse than death for them,' she said. On Thursday, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla warned that if immediate action is not taken to eradicate drug menace, Himachal Pradesh would become "Udta Punjab" in the next five years. Shukla said that the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases have risen by 340 per cent from around 500 in 2102 to about 2200 in 2023, and expressed concern over the 'rising' menace of substance abuse in the state. Talking about his campaign against drugs, Shukla said, 'This is not just a campaign but a mission to protect our future generations and preserve the social fabric of our communities.' He also expressed his displeasure over the 'lack of government rehabilitation centres' in the state, and emphasised the urgent need for the state government to establish a new state-of-the-art de-addiction and rehabilitation centre.

Ganja worth Rs 30 lakh seized from abandoned car in MPs Shahdol
Last Updated: Shahdol, Jul 24 (PTI) At least 300 kg of ganja worth Rs 30 lakh was seized from an abandoned car in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district, police said on Friday. The police received a tip-off about a car accident in the Kunda Tola area under the jurisdiction of Sidhi police station on Wednesday night, Station House Officer (SHO) Rajkumar Mishra said. On reaching the scene, the police team found a white car with a Chhattisgarh registration number abandoned on a field, he said. 'We found 294 plastic packets containing a substance, later identified as ganja," Mishra told PTI. He said that the seized contraband weighed 301.75 kg and was valued at Rs 30 lakh. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against unidentified persons, and an investigation is underway, the official said. The police are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify and locate those involved in the interstate smuggling racket, he said.
