Apple iPhone 17 series set for September launch: Specs, features, colours, and camera upgrades revealed
The Air will come with a 6.6-inch OLED screen, Dynamic Island, and a single 48MP rear camera. A dedicated battery case might also be in the works, aimed at compensating for the smaller cell.At the heart of the iPhone 17 Pro is the new A19 Pro chipset, built on TSMC's third-generation 3nm process. Apple is also reportedly developing a 2nm version, but the A19 Pro remains the highlight for this release cycle. The Pro models will come with 12GB RAM, compared to 8GB on the standard versions. This increase is designed to power upcoming Apple Intelligence features and enable better multitasking. The Pro models are also said to include a vapour chamber cooling system for improved thermal performance during demanding tasks like gaming.Digit reports, 'The iPhone 17 Pro is said to feature A19 Pro chipset along with 12GB RAM to smoothly run Apple Intelligence features. It may also get a vapour cooling chamber for better thermal management.'
The iPhone 17 Pro will ship with iOS 26, which is currently in beta testing. The iPhone 17 Pro will feature Apple's most significant design change in years. According to MacRumors and other sources, the rear camera layout will now be arranged horizontally across the top of the phone, in a triangular formation. This is a marked departure from the current vertical or square stacks seen in recent models.Ashish Singh at Digit notes, 'You can expect a rectangular camera bump with triangular camera setup. It could launch in silver, black, grey and dark blue, plus a new copper-like orange colour.'Beyond copper-orange, Apple is also testing pastel finishes across the entire series. Standard models might arrive in pastel purple and green, while the Pro variants could launch in a muted sky blue finish.Other tweaks include a repositioned Apple logo and a hybrid aluminium-glass back for a more refined build. The iPhone 17 Pro will retain a 6.3-inch screen, slightly larger than the standard iPhone 17's 6.1 inches. The Pro Max will keep its 6.9-inch display. The Air, at 6.6 inches, will sit between the Pro and Pro Max in size, but will be significantly thinner. On the front, the Dynamic Island is rumoured to shrink slightly, with narrower bezels offering a cleaner, more modern look.Apple is overhauling its entire camera system for the iPhone 17 series. All models, including the base iPhone 17, are expected to get a 24MP front-facing camera, doubling the resolution of the iPhone 16's.The iPhone 17 Pro will include a triple-camera setup, each sensor rated at 48MP: wide, ultrawide, and a new telephoto with 3.5x zoom. The Pro Max may continue with its periscope lens for longer zoom range.Apple's Fusion tech will still play a role in image processing, enhancing detail in low or mixed lighting conditions. Dual-camera video recording from both the front and rear cameras at the same time is also likely to be exclusive to the Pro models.Digit confirms, 'The device is said to get a triple camera setup including a 48MP wide, 48MP telephoto and 48MP ultrawide sensor. It can also get a 24MP selfie shooter.'
All models in the iPhone 17 range are expected to support Wi-Fi 7 and will be equipped with Apple's new C1 modem. For the Air, battery capacity might be scaled back due to its thin build, but Apple is reportedly working with TDK to introduce a high-density silicon-anode battery that can deliver comparable performance. Battery life across the board should improve with more efficient chipsets and software-level enhancements, but the Pro and Pro Max will likely have the upper hand in longevity.Reports suggest Apple is likely to begin mass production of the iPhone 17 series in August 2025. While final India launch dates are unconfirmed, the company usually synchronises its global releases across major markets. The iPhone 17 Pro, sitting between the standard and Pro Max in the lineup, appears to be Apple's key focus this year. With better cameras, a new design, and a boost in processing power, it aims to push the iPhone's boundaries once again. As Mark Gurman noted, Apple is 'sticking to its long-standing tradition of releasing new iPhones in the second week of September.' And this year, all signs point to the iPhone 17 Pro being front and centre.(With inputs from Bloomberg, TOI)

Want a 3D lock screen? Here's how the new iOS 26 spatial scene works on iPhone
Apple has recently rolled out the iOS 26 public beta, and several iPhone users have already started testing the new features ahead of the stable rollout. With iOS 26, iPhones will receive a redesigned user interface with Liquid Glass UI, bringing a more fluid experience. While the update is bringing several new features, iOS 26 will include a new 3D lock screen, which is being called 'Spatial Scene'. This new lock screen feature converts still images into a 3D effect, giving more depth to the image and enhancing the overall look of the lock screen wallpaper. Therefore, know how the iOS 26 spatial scene works and how iPhone users can customise their lock screen. Here's a detailed guide to how the iOS 26 spatial scene works.(Apple) What is a spatial scene in iOS 26? At the WWDC 2025, Apple introduced the spatial scene with iOS 26 that transforms images and wallpaper into attractive 3D effects. This feature uses on-device AI and motion sensors to give still images a depth and sense of motion. This 3D effect can be recognised once an iPhone user tilts or moves their iPhone, showcasing animations to the foreground and background scene. This feature is currently available on iOS 26 public beta, and is expected to roll out to all users in September alongside the iPhone 17 series launch. Therefore, know how the iOS 26 spatial scene works on iPhone: Step 1: Long-press and hold your lock screen for a few seconds, then you will be provided with options to change wallpaper or add customisations. Simply select the '+' icon to add a 3D lock screen. Step 2: Now select a wallpaper image of your choice, or directly pick from the spatial scene suggestions that will automatically pick images that will look good in 3D scenes. Step 3: Now adjust the wallpaper as per your requirement by pinching to zoom and crop. However, make sure the hexagon-shaped icon is enabled to turn on the spatial scene on the lock screen wallpaper. Step 4: After setting the wallpaper, you can make further customisation to the lock screen, such as expanding the clock size, changing its font, and colours that match your wallpaper. Lastly, add widgets of your choice and save the changes. This will not only enhance your lock screen look, but will also give an impressive depth to the lock screen wallpaper on iPhone. However, keep in mind that the stable iOS 26 update is yet to be released, and we are currently testing this feature on the public beta version.

Delayed project possession and missed EMIs: Here's how it can impact your CIBIL score
Rohit Singh, a 36-year-old mid-level IT professional in Pune, booked a 2-BHK flat in 2021 for ₹78 lakh, expecting possession by August 2023. To fund the purchase, he took a home loan of ₹65 lakh, with an EMI of ₹52,000 per month. However, due to regulatory delays and cash flow issues faced by the developer, the project stalled, and handover was pushed indefinitely. Delayed real estate projects: Any default, regardless of the reason, is recorded in the borrower's credit history and can lead to a significant drop in the credit score. (Photo for representational purposes only)(Pixabay) Singh was forced to continue living in a rented apartment, paying ₹27,000 in monthly rent in addition to the EMI. With no tax benefits from possession and no rental income, the ₹79,000 monthly outgo severely strained his finances. His savings quickly depleted, and he began defaulting on utility bills and pausing SIPs and insurance premiums. Within five months, he delayed two EMI payments, which impacted his credit score and triggered penalty interest from the bank. 'Borrowers facing delayed flat possession are caught between a rock and a hard place as they need to pay EMI as well as in many cases rent for the existing accommodation,' says Abhishek Kumar, a Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi)-registered investment advisor (RIA), and founder and chief investment advisor of SahajMoney, a financial planning firm. Impact on borrowers Even if there is a delay in possession, it is recommended that borrowers keep on making the EMI payments on time. Starting from affecting your credit score, not paying your EMIs will land you in all sorts of trouble. Banks will simply check which customer's EMI has bounced. They are not obligated nor do they have the systems in place to check why it bounced. 'So, yes, if you miss an EMI because your house hasn't been delivered yet and you're stuck paying both rent and loan, your CIBIL score will still take a hit,' says Siddarth Jain, CFO at MinEmi, a web application that utilizes AI to help users optimize their loan and credit card choices. Also Read: Has your real estate developer delayed possession of your flat? Here's how homebuyers can manage the EMI and rent burden At present, there is limited formal relief available for borrowers in such situations. Lenders generally assess defaults on a case-by-case basis, and any relaxation or restructuring is at their discretion. 'Credit bureaus rely solely on the data provided by lenders; they do not investigate the reasons behind defaults. As a result, even if the default is due to a delay in possession, it is recorded as a missed payment unless the lender intervenes,' says Raoul Kapoor, Co-CEO, Andromeda Sales and Distribution, a loan distribution company. Any default, regardless of the reason, is recorded in the borrower's credit history and can lead to a significant drop in the credit score. This, in turn, reduces the borrower's chances of getting future loans or may result in higher interest rates. Also Read: Section 54: Can a wife claim tax exemption by selling flats gifted by her husband and reinvesting in a new property? 'Rebuilding a damaged credit score is a slow process and may take years of consistent repayment and financial discipline to recover,' says Kapoor. What can you do to minimise the impact If you're stuck with delayed possession, ask your bank if they offer a pre-EMI option. Under this structure, you only pay the interest portion of your loan until you actually get possession. 'This significantly lowers your monthly outgo for a while. It's similar to how an education loan works, interest accumulates while you study, and full repayment begins once you graduate. For homebuyers, this can ease the pressure during the construction phase,' says Adhil Shetty, CEO, a fintech portal. Lenders are often open to negotiations. If you explain your situation, say, construction is delayed and you're struggling to manage rent and EMI, they might offer a moratorium. 'For example, they could allow you to defer payments for six months, with the accumulated interest added later. It's not free money, but it gives you breathing space. Many borrowers are unaware that such arrangements are possible if they simply ask,' says Shetty. Anagh Pal is a personal finance expert who writes on real estate, tax, insurance, mutual funds and other topics If you're stuck with delayed possession, ask your bank if they offer a pre-EMI option. Under this structure, you only pay the interest portion of your loan until you actually get possession(HT Graphics) Early and transparent communication with the lender is thus crucial to negotiate suitable terms. Of course, one needs to remember that under these options you may get a temporary relief but the total cost of the loan increases.

India hasn't given refiners directions to stop buying Russia oil
India hasn't given the country's oil refiners instructions to stop buying Russian oil, according to people familiar, as officials grapple with meeting energy needs and maintaining ties with Moscow without further angering US President Donald Trump. ADVERTISEMENT No decision has been taken as yet on stopping imports from Russia, the people said, asking not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter. Both state-run or private refiners are allowed to buy from their preferred sources, and crude purchases remain a commercial decision made by them, several of the people said. Trump blasted India on Wednesday for continuing to purchase most of its military equipment and energy from Russia. The US leader imposed a surprise 25% tariff on India and threatened an additional penalty for its close ties with Moscow. Two days later, Trump told reporters he 'heard' India would no longer be buying oil from Russia, calling it 'a good step.' India has maintained its energy purchases are driven by market forces and price. Last week, refiners were told to come up with plans for buying non-Russian crude, people familiar said to Bloomberg. The government asked state-owned processors to prepare an outline of where alternate barrels can be sourced and at what volume if Russian flows get stopped, they said. One of the people said the instruction amounted to scenario planning in case Russian crude were to become New York Times reported on Saturday that India will keep buying Russian crude despite a threat of penalties from Trump, citing two senior Indian officials it didn't identify. An oil ministry spokesperson didn't reply to messages from Bloomberg seeking comment outside of regular business hours. It has become the world's biggest buyer of Russian seaborne exports of crude, soaking up discounted barrels and ramping up its purchases from almost zero to about one-third of its or stopping Russian oil purchases would force India to source oil once again from Gulf nations — which costs a premium — and New Delhi isn't keen on adding to its import bill, one of the people said. State-owned Indian Oil Corp. bought at least 5 million barrels US crude, on top of 2 million barrels of supplies from Abu Dhabi, traders told Bloomberg last week. The purchases were both large and for relatively immediate delivery by the company's usual standards. (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel)
