Missing Malaysian family of 6 found dead in submerged car

A family of six in
Malaysia , including four children aged between six months and nine years, were found dead on Monday in a car submerged in a river.
A couple aged 32 and 31 and their children were found in the back seat of the Proton Iswara car in Sungai Korok in Kedah two days after they were reported missing, according to reports by the local newspaper The Star.
Rescue personnel cut open the car's roof and broke its windows to retrieve the bodies. Family members at the scene were seen crying while the recovery process was taking place.
'We have been searching along the Korok River road since the day my brother disappeared, but there are no clues because the river is wide and deep, and the water is murky,' said Nor Syafiqah Ishak, the younger brother of one of the victims, who is believed to be the father.
'Until this morning, when the water in the river receded a little, someone saw the end of the bonnet of the car, and we all went straight here,' he told reporters at the scene on Monday.
On Monday morning, local fire and rescue authorities received an emergency call about a car seen floating in the river.

More than 160 still missing days after deadly Texas floods

More than 160 people remain unaccounted for after devastating floods in Texas, the state governor said Tuesday, marking a dramatic increase in the number of missing from a tragedy that has so far claimed 109 lives. Advertisement Four days after flash floods roared through several Texas counties, some in the middle of the night, hopes of finding survivors were fading – and Governor Greg Abbott warned that the list of those unaccounted for could yet rise. 'Just in the Kerr County area alone, there are 161 people who are known to be missing,' he told reporters Tuesday as the grim search continued. 'There very likely could be more added to that list,' he said, adding that the figure was based on people reported as unaccounted for by friends, relatives and neighbours. Indian villagers beat family of five to death over ‘witchcraft' accusation

Indian villagers beat a family of five to death and dumped their corpses in a lake, accusing them of 'practising witchcraft' after the death of a boy, police said on Tuesday. Three people have been arrested and have confessed to the crime, police in the northern state of Bihar said in a statement. Three women – including a 75-year-old – were among those murdered. The main accused believed that his son's recent death was caused by one of those killed, and blamed 'him and his family of practising witchcraft', the statement said. 'After beating the victims to death, the perpetrators loaded the bodies onto a tractor and dumped them in a pond,' police said. The murderers and victims all belonged to India's Oraon tribe in Bihar, India's poorest state and a mainly Hindu region of at least 130 million people.

Malaysia's Rosmah wins US$23,600 damages over black magic claims by TikTokker

Former Malaysian first lady Rosmah Mansor has won 100,000 ringgit (US$23,600) in damages in a defamation case against a TikTokker who uploaded a video claiming that she had dabbled in black magic. The Kuala Lumpur High Court said on Tuesday that Rosmah had proven her claim against 35-year-old Ku Muhammad Hilmie Ku Din. 'This global award … comprises general and aggravated damages,' Justice Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh said during the damages assessment hearing, according to a report by local daily The Star. In addition, the court also imposed 20,000 ringgit in costs and a 5 per cent annual interest on the sum of damages from the date of its decision until full payment is made. Ku Hilmie was absent from the hearing, which was conducted online via Zoom. He also did not appear for the proceedings on May 28 last year, prompting the court to enter a judgment in default against him. Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak , filed the civil suit seeking 1 million ringgit in damages against Ku Hilmie on September 19, 2023, for a video he uploaded on his TikTok account on March 2 that year.
