Minister Bandi Sanjay Attacks Congress, Alleges Special Treatment To Akbaruddin Owaisi
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar launched a scathing attack on the Telangana government on Monday, questioning alleged special exemptions granted to AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi's family and condemning alleged threats against media houses.
Speaking to reporters in Jagtial district after inaugurating Central development projects, the Union minister alleged double standards and demanded a clarification from the Congress-led Revanth Reddy government in Telangana.
Bandi Sanjay specifically questioned the Hyderabad Development Authority (HYDRA), stating, "Are the HYDRA authorities demolishing the houses of the poor in the name of encroachments, but giving exemptions to Akbaruddin Owaisi's family, who have built buildings in lakes and ponds and are running colleges and businesses there?"
He cited claims by HYDRA that they cannot demolish illegal constructions at Mr Owaisi's college due to the presence of 10,000 students, contrasting this with the demolition of "small houses and huts built by poor people in the Musi river catchment areas, who have no source of livelihood or shelter".
"Do only the lives of Akbaruddin Owaisi's family have value? Don't the lives of poor people matter? Are they not human?" the minister asked, accusing the government of turning a blind eye to alleged transgressions by AIMMIM leaders, including non-payment of electricity bills and encroachment.
The Union Minister also strongly criticised the alleged preparations by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders to attack the offices of Andhra Jyothi and other news outlets for publishing critical stories. "When media houses are being attacked, what is the chief minister doing? What is the government doing?" he demanded.
Reminding Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of the time he was jailed, Mr Sanjay asked, "Weren't you jailed unjustly and denied bail? Have you forgotten all that and now joined hands with them (the BRS)?"
The BJP, he said, would "always stand at the forefront in protecting democracy and press freedom". Daring BRS leaders, he added, "Attack the media houses and see what happens. Within two hours of your attack, our BJYM (BJP youth wing) activists will take care of your BRS office and the TV channel in it. Telangana is no longer BRS' fiefdom."

For the tunnel project, he wrote, "A vital ramp near Hebbal necessitates 2 acres of defence land, previously part of the Hebbal Defence Dairy Farm." The link road requires 6 acres, while 7 acres of defence land is needed for the Metro corridor. "The construction… will give huge benefit to the public, as it would solve long pending traffic issues at Goraguntepalya junction," he noted. Siddaramaiah also invited IAF to conduct aerobatic displays during Mysuru Dasara. AAIB officials appear before House panel, say Air India crash report soon
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is learnt to have told a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Wednesday that it will make public its preliminary report on the June 12 Ahmedabad plane crash in a couple of days. According to sources, the report is expected to provide the sequence of events before the accident that killed 260 people, a detailed description of the crash and the steps so far in the investigation, besides any notable findings that may have come to light. The House panel, headed by JDU RS MP Sanjay Jha, held its scheduled meeting Wednesday with the agenda 'to hear the Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation on the 'overall review of safety in the civil aviation sector'. As many as 97 people are learnt to have deposed before the panel, among them top Ministry officials, including the secretary, AAIB officials, CEOs of the airlines operating in India, representatives of airport operators such as Adani and GMR and representatives of civil helicopter operators. Members of the panel cutting across party lines are learnt to have told the Ministry officials there is a pervasive sense of fear among fliers about aviation safety since the crash last month and urged the Ministry to come out with a report on how the incident happened. AAIB officials are learnt to have told the panel that the black box and voice recorder of the aircraft that crashed were intact and data was being investigated. Officials are learnt to have said that help of foreign players, including aircraft manufacturer Boeing, was also sought to carry out detailed and thorough investigations. During the meeting, the House panel is also learnt to have flagged an overloaded Air Traffic Control (ATC) system among other issues such as lacunae in civil helicopter operations. It is learnt that the committee discussed there was a paucity of staff at the ATC and that while in other countries ATC monitors the movement of 7 to 8 planes through one radar, in India there were as many as 30 planes on one radar. The panel is also learnt to have discussed staff shortage that ATC in India is facing apart from the vacancies in the DGCA. Aircraft accident investigations can be extremely complex and time consuming processes, taking months and in some cases even years to conclude. A more detailed identification and analysis of the most probable causes of the Ahmedabad crash is expected over the coming months. The AAIB-led investigation into the Ahmedabad crash is being assisted by representatives from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Boeing, and engine manufacturer GE. Irregularities in solar pump project implemented by Anert, alleges Ramesh Chennithala
Thiruvananthapuram: Congress working committee (CWC) member Ramesh Chennithala on Wednesday demanded a detailed investigation into the irregularities in the Rs 240-crore tender to make grid-connected agriculture pumps solar under PM-Kusum scheme. After releasing documents, including the sanction order from Union ministry, Chennithala said there was an increase of over Rs 100 crore in total project cost and a misappropriation of more than Rs 100 crore in obtaining a loan of Rs 175 crore from Nabard. Agency for new and renewable energy research and technology (Anert) was given the order by Union ministry of new and renewable energy in May 2022 to convert 9,348 agricultural pumps to solar. Meanwhile, electricity minister K Krishnankutty instructed additional chief secretary of energy department to investigate the allegations of irregularities and submit a report. He said no one responsible for any irregularities found in the investigation would be protected. Appropriate further actions will be taken after receiving the investigation report, he said. Work orders were given to companies that didn't mention amounts in bids, grading was not followed in converting solar pumps and pumps were set up at 146% more than the benchmark set by govt of India. State govt returned around 85% of the subsidy to Centre," he said. Chennithala said the irregularities began when Anert CEO, who is authorised to call tenders worth up to Rs 5 crore, invited a tender for Rs 240 crore. "It needs to be clarified how such a high-value tender was called without govt's written approval," he said. Irregularities occurred throughout the entire process, he alleged. "After a company submitted its tender, they were given the opportunity for revisions and were issued a work order," he said, adding that govt should explain how changes were allowed after opening the tender. "Most contracts were awarded at more than double the benchmark amount set by central govt for installing such pumps. There is a difference ranging from Rs 1-3 lakh in contracts for various solar projects from 2-10 kilowatts. This resulted in a difference of nearly Rs 100 crore in total project cost," he alleged. The approval and corruption involved in causing such a significant difference should be investigated, he added. "This misappropriation was carried out by taking a loan of Rs 175 crore from Nabard. Grading was implemented for companies to ensure error-free project execution. It is understood that contracts were awarded to companies that didn't qualify. Contracts were given to companies without grading at the same amount as the one quoted by the lowest bidder," he said. An investigation into all these irregularities should be ordered by removing Anert CEO, Chennithala said.
