Thelo Aasgaard in Rangers transfer 'talks' as manager's warning rings loud and clear amid Ibrox solution
Thelo Aasgaard is reportedly in talks to join Rangers from Luton Town.
Hot on the heels of landing Joe Rothwell from Bournemouth, Russell Martin is keen to add another midfielder and the Daily Mai l claims that Aasgaard is discussing a move to Ibrox.
The 23-year-old has one cap for Norway and only joined the Hatters from Wigan Athletic back in January.
However, they are open to doing a deal that would see them make a not insignificant profit on Aasgaard, who they shelled out £3million to land just a few months ago.
However, a second successive relegation saw them drop into League One this summer and the financial challenges that come with it.
And after international boss Stale Solbakken warned that Aasgaard's place in his squad was at risk if he was to remain in the third tier of English football, a switch to the Scottish Premiership and the chance to play European football would allay any fears over not adding to his solitary cap.
"League One is too low a level," he said. "Championship is no problem, with his development that level is good enough, but with League One, that's where it stops. There are many leagues he can play in. He is a versatile midfielder with good qualities both offensively and defensively."
Aasgaard has already admitted that the 2026 World Cup next summer is a factor when deciding whether to stay at Luton or not.
He said: "It's a difficult situation for the club," he told VG. "I felt I performed well in a difficult situation for the club.
'It's hard to say. Everyone is on vacation now. What I can say is that the World Cup in a year is a big goal for me."
Liverpool-born Aasgaard began his career at Anfield, and qualifies for Norway through his father.
He made 163 appearances over five years with the Latics, netting 30 goals.
His versatility appeals to Martin, with the player able operate anywhere in midfield or out wide, and has been utilised as a striker on occasion.

Arsenal sign Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi
The Spain international, 26, moves to the Emirates Stadium on a long-term deal after the Gunners reportedly triggered his £51million release clause. Euro 2024 winner Zubimendi had previously been a target for Liverpool and was also linked with Real Madrid. Zubimendi told the club website: 'This is a huge moment in my career. It's the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are. 'I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me. They have shown their potential recently and the best is yet to come.' Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is confident Zubimendi can help reinforce his midfield options, having seen Thomas Partey's contract expire and Jorginho also leave the club. 'Martin is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team. He will fit in really well and he has all the attributes to be a key player for us,' Arteta said. 'The standard he has consistently performed at over the last few seasons for both club and country is exactly why we are so excited to have him with us. We all welcome Martin and his family to the club.' A post shared by Arsenal (@arsenal) A graduate of the Sociedad academy system, Zubimendi made 236 appearances for the club in all competitions at senior level and helped the team lift the delayed 2019-20 Copa del Rey with victory over Athletic Bilbao. He was also involved as Sociedad finished fourth in the 2022-23 season – their highest league finish – to reach the Champions League for only the third time in their history. The midfielder has been capped 19 times by Spain, where he was part of the squad who won the Nations League in 2023 and became European champions last year after beating England in the final. Zubimendi becomes Arsenal's second signing this summer after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga joined from Chelsea. The Gunners are also expected to complete the signing of Christian Norgaard, with the Brentford captain looking set to join for a reported £10m with a potential £5m of add-ons.

Wrexham agree record transfer but it may not be enough for Premier League star
Wrexham are looking for quality additions to bolster their squad after winning a third successive promotion and have now agreed a huge deal with a Premier League club Wrexham have struck a blockbuster deal worth £5million with Nottingham Forest for Lewis O'Brien - but they are struggling to meet the midfielder's wage demands. The Championship newcomers are ready to splash the cash on quality additions to their squad after clinching three consecutive promotions. And after wrapping up deals for Ryan Hardie and Danny Ward, they are now keen on beefing up their midfield with a Championship proven performer in O'Brien. Forest are willing to sell the 26-year-old after sending him out on loan to Swansea last season. And although Wrexham have agreed terms with Forest on a package worth £5m in total for O'Brien's services, they are some way off the figures that the player is seeking when it comes to personal terms. For that reason, as first reported by The Sun, the deal - which would smash Wrexham's transfer record - remains in doubt. There has been no shortage of interest in O'Brien, who would be a major coup for Wrexham if they can reach an agreement on figures for the midfield maestro. Hull City have also been linked with the former Huddersfield Town man. But with the Tigers now under an embargo which means they cannot pay a transfer fee for a player until 2027, they are no longer in the running to land O'Brien. While it remains to be seen if O'Brien will be lining up for the team bankrolled by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds next season, Wrexham are expected to strengthen in other areas before the new Championship season kicks off. They have already been linked with a host of quality players including Tom Cairney, the veteran Fulham midfielder whose contract expired at the end of June. Former England duo Danny Ings and Aaron Cresswell have also been linked with moves to Wrexham as the club eye up targets with extensive experience. Phil Parkinson hinted previously that the club were keen to add more athleticism and power to the squad following their latest promotion, telling ESPN: "We're going into one of the most competitive leagues in world football. Not just European football, in world football. It's a relentless league. "We're the only team in the league that's never played in the top flight in its history, so we're against some great clubs. As you go up the divisions in England, the technical ability improves, but the athleticism and the power are things where you can significantly see the difference."
