Amazon Prime fans ‘livid' as show with ‘so much potential' cancelled
The new dramedy has been axed by Amazon Prime Video after just one season, despite the fact the series was initially commissioned for two
Prime Video subscribers are livid as a gripping new drama series has been axed after just one season.
The dance dramedy Étoile, crafted by Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel writers Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, sadly won't be making a comeback for a second series.
This is despite the fact that the streamer originally commissioned the series for two seasons, leaving fans of the show particularly miffed.
Set in both New York and Paris, the series features Luke Kirby as Jack McMillan and Charlotte Gainsbourg as Geneviève Lavigne, two artistic directors of prestigious ballet schools who decide to exchange their most gifted stars to rescue their companies.
French principal ballerina Cheyenne Toussaint (portrayed by Lou de Laâge) heads to New York to be trained by Jack, while American choreographer Tobias Bell (Gideon Glick) joins Geneviève in Paris, reports the Mirror US.
All eight episodes were launched in late April and were eagerly awaited by fans following the success of the Palladinos' previous hit comedy-dramas.
Despite not being quite the runaway success Prime Video was evidently hoping for, Étoile garnered a passionate cult following who have taken to social media to lament the disappointing decision.
Outrage erupted on X (formerly Twitter), as one fan vented: "you have to allow audience word of mouth to spread give it another chance Etoile is amazing and so is Amy Sherman Palladino you have to give shows time like we did in the 2000s cause people keep going back to them cause there timeless and well spaced."
Another viewer expressed their dismay: "what's the point of creating art to cancel it for some reasons? I mean, etoile was good as hell, it was brilliant I don't understand what happened."
An additional fan expressed their anger: "the way étoile was gaining more and more traction EVERY DAY (mostly through word of mouth) and amazon decided to cancel it less than two months after it premiered. i'm livid."
Frustrated demands were aimed at @PrimeVideo: "@PrimeVideo how dare you cancel étoile after it ALREADY HAVING A SEASON TWO???? what is wrong with you," voiced a fourth supporter.
The dismay over the scrapping of potential extended onto Reddit forums, where numerous individuals aired their grievances.
One said with regret: "Gosh the show really found its groove in the later half of the season, I think season 2 had a lot of potential. Sad that we'll never see it."
A disappointed viewer added: "I took a chance because this was a ASP show but this is the last time I'm watching a show that hasn't already released several seasons.
"The way they're just canceling shows now is some bulls***. The cast should be very proud of themselves."
Speculation remains whether a platform such as Netflix might swoop in to rescue Étoile, leaving many loyal viewers holding out hope for an unexpected revival.

Lincoln Lawyer fans are eagerly waiting for the Netflix hit's comeback but in the meantime, there is another show from the works of author Michael Connelly on the way. Thankfully, that's not quite the end of the story just yet with The Lincoln Lawyer renewed for season four a few months later, although an official release date hasn't been announced. The Netflix legal drama is based on the award-winning book series by author Michael Connelly with series four expected to be based on his sixth novel, The Law of Innocence. But while fans wait for its return, another book set in Connelly's universe, as well as Prime Video's Bosch, is gearing up to come out. Based on the author's Renee Ballard book series, Ballard is the next crime drama to be released on Prime Video. Inspired by real-life LAPD Detective Mitzi Roberts, who was also a consultant on Bosch, Ballard is relentless and smart with a strong moral compass that guides everything that she does. In the books, she works on the LAPD midnight shift and focuses on her complicated relationship with being on the force as well as her own issues. Ballard will be portrayed by Designated Survivor actress Maggie Q who got her initial introduction during the series finale of Bosch: Legacy. She teamed up with Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) to work on the Flower Girls missing women case which has been deemed as the toughest of his career. Ballard will be released on Tuesday, July 9, on Prime Video and will consist of 10 episodes in total. Q will be joined by Fargo star John Carroll Lynch as Ballard's seasons partner Tomas Laffront, as well as actress Courtney Taylor as her ex-protégé Samira Park. It has already been confirmed that Welliver will reprise his role as Harry Bosch in the drama as it picks up after the Bosch: Legacy finale. As of yet, there has been no confirmation that Lincoln Lawyer star Garcia-Rulfo or any other members of the Netflix cast are going to feature.

'I tried to watch Netflix on my fiance's iPad but what I found ruined my life'
A woman has been left devastated after uncovering a disgusting family secret. A young woman has been left disgusted after uncovering a life-changing family secret. The discovery has rocked her relationship with her partner, mum, and young brother. The 24 year old opened up about the devastating situation in a post on Reddit, where she shared that she and her fiancé had been together for several years. The couple knew each other from growing up in the same area and she told how her partner's good rapport with her mother was important, given her "real-life Rory and Lorelai from Gilmore Girls" bond with her mum, reports the Mirror. Posting on the social media forum, she wrote: "My fiancé and I have been together since we were 17 and 18 years old. Honestly, he was always kind, handsome, funny and everyone used to say I was so lucky to have the whole package. "I felt so lucky too. He always treated me with love and respect, so this makes everything just so shocking for me. I have always had a good relationship with my mum. "It has always been her and I against the world. My dad died in an accident when I was little. My mum dated guys on and off and they were usually cool but nothing really passed the early stages." However, the dynamic dramatically changed when, four years prior, her mum, then aged 42, announced an unexpected pregnancy. The daughter explained: "Although she was sort of dating someone recently (I didn't meet the guy but knew she went on dates) it still was a big shock. She never thought she could be pregnant at her age (she had me when she was super young - an oopsie) and I can tell she was stressed and worried. "I decided to support her since she has always supported me and tried to reassure her. She then had my brother who is now three years old. I have a close relationship with my brother, I have helped take care of him since he was born and I just love the little guy." She shared that her fiancé also stepped in to help entertain her young brother, taking him out for ice cream, to the playground, and to the swimming pool during the summer months. "Nothing was weird - he was just my then-boyfriend spending time with my brother and me," she added. However, her world was turned upside down when she borrowed her fiancé's iPad to watch Netflix after her laptop died. She said: "At some point during binge-watching a series on Netflix, my laptop died and I was too lazy to go get my charger, so I just took my fiancé's iPad. I know the password but honestly never used it before. "The iPad logged in and I got a bunch of messages pinging (I guess he hasn't used it in a while too?). Anyway, this got my attention and I went to check it out and I found everything. My mum's number wasn't under her name but I recognised the number and verified it with my phone. "She was telling him she felt guilty and that I should know. He said he also felt guilty but couldn't lose me and they f*cked it up. "She said that it was unfair for my brother to never not know his dad, and that if he could live having his son around not behaving like a dad but a brother-in-law. I broke down. What the actual F!" Digging deeper, she found several photos of her mum pregnant, her brother as a newborn, and other snapshots of his early life. She confessed: "I couldn't any more. I cried for what seemed ages and I waited for my boyfriend to come back home. I wish I was one of those women who can pretend and get things together before confronting the cheater but I can't. "He came back later that night (around 11.30pm) and I just handed him the iPad with the conversation opened and watched his face turn pale. I demanded an explanation, when? how? why? and he was reluctant at first, but knew he had to answer. Apparently, a few years ago while I was away with some friends (girls' trip), my fiancé and mum had dinner together. "This isn't strange since he has been part of the family for so long, sometimes my mum and fiancé would eat together at our place even if I was busy with sports or out - I did the same with his parents. Somehow (unclear how since he couldn't explain it well) one thing led to another and they ended up sleeping together. "They felt guilty but apparently not guilty enough because they slept together two or three more times, using the excuse of meeting up to discuss how to tell me. Apparently, when my mum got pregnant they stopped sleeping together and decided to not tell me, since my fiancé 'loved me and couldn't lose me' and my mum didn't want to lose her daughter." She moved in with a friend and is seeking therapy because she feels unable to cope with the situation by herself. She confessed: "I feel bad for my brother since I really love him, but I can't be around him now, I just can't. "I feel like it would remind me of all those times we talked about having kids, I would be his baby mama, only baby mama, we talked about this future since we were 17 years old, so I want to puke every time I think how I was actually taking care of his child with someone else, while still having those dreams. I wanna puke." Reacting to her story, one social media user expressed: "Damn. Just damn. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Seems like hell on Earth. You've got everyone here's support and keep doing you! You're doing great already and just keep moving forward, wishing you the best!". Another advised: "The best thing to do is to get into counseling, you'll want to mentally prepare yourself for the inevitable. You said it yourself, they most likely will try to confront you at either work or when you're out and about and the last thing you want is to be caught off guard and not be ready to handle that confrontation on your own!". Rotten Tomatoes, the esteemed review aggregator, has crunched the numbers, using authentic critiques to sort through Cruise's extensive filmography. The rankings may throw up a few surprises, with some of Cruise's more obscure roles securing spots in the top 10, while others are expected entries thanks to widespread critical praise. Topping the charts as the actor's most celebrated work, according to viewer ratings, is the high-octane Mission: Impossible-Fallout. The 2018 blockbuster, which is the sixth instalment in the Mission: Impossible saga, has garnered an outstanding 98% rating, making it a clear fan favourite. One critic said: "Mission: Impossible - Fallout is hands down one of the best action movies I've seen in a while. The stunts are absolutely wild, and knowing Tom Cruise actually did them makes it even crazier." They added: "The pacing keeps you locked in from start to finish-there's never a dull moment. The story ties in nicely with the previous films but still stands strong on its own." They added: "A breathtaking and moving film with such fantastic acting from both lead roles, with Tom Cruise showcasing that he can be more than a blockbuster protagonist who runs and jumps. It is a lost gem, and I hope it gains more attention as years go on." Languishing at the bottom of the pile, in 44th place with a mere 9% score, is the romantic comedy Cocktail. In this early Tom Cruise vehicle, he plays a New York bartender with grand ambitions that take him to Jamaica to open his own bar. The general view labels the film as rather "average," though some critics are more scathing. A review stated: "Yes, Tom Cruise has charisma. All that doesn't change the fact that this film isn't that good. Much like Cruise's character, Brian, this story drifts along without any real purpose." It continued: "And while the acting isn't terrible, the writing is watered down, and the characters are one-dimensional. It seems that the filmmakers didn't get the mix right when it comes to Cocktail."
