Malaysia Accelerates Efforts To Become Regional AI Powerhouse
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo highlighted Malaysia's proactive strategies in building a future-ready Al ecosystem when speaking at the prestigious Machines Can See event held yesterday at the Museum of the Future, Dubai.
He said the key component is the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO), which coordinates cross-ministerial efforts to identify and address talent needs.
"NAIO allows us to engage with multiple sectors to understand what's needed to cultivate and retain top digital talent.
"We are committed to creating real opportunities in the tech space and enabling Malaysians to take the lead in Al innovation," said Gobind in a media release here today.
The minister also emphasised that Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is working to fast-track digital initiatives and streamline processes to attract global talent, in line with the goals of the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint 2025-2030.
"We have a clear, long-term vision. Making it easier to develop digital skills and access opportunities is a key part of our blueprint for growth," he said.
Gobind also called for a shift in the way digital education is approached not just about universities, but also need to embed relevant tech modules at every stage of education from primary school through to secondary and beyond.
"This ensures we're preparing talent early and addressing future skills shortages," he said.

They concluded with an agreement to hold sectoral trilateral discussions at the senior officials' level in the coming months to advance their shared desire for peace and security in the region. In the same meeting, the officials reaffirmed their interest in advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific and agreed to coordinate cooperation on maritime security, including through Maritime Cooperative Activities, trilateral military exercises, and capacity building and assistance for the Philippine Coast Guard and other Philippine maritime authorities. -- Bernama-PNA

Transport operators urged to embrace digitalisation, open payment system
KUALA LUMPUR: All public transport operators must move towards digitalising their services and adopting open payment systems to improve convenience and efficiency for users, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He said the government has been advocating the implementation of open payment systems across all modes of public transport to ensure better integration and access for passengers. "I want all operators to digitalise, and I have always advocated an open payment system for our public transportation network," he said during the launch of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd's (KTMB) KITS Style today. KITS Style builds on KTMB's original Integrated Ticketing System (KITS) launched in 2019 and has evolved into an all-in-one Mobility-as-a-Service platform. It empowers users with seamless access to AI-powered journey planning; bookings for flights, hotels, attractions and car rentals; a rail rewards loyalty programme; insurance and utility payments; money transfers; mobile top-ups; and lifestyle offers. Commending KTMB's efforts, Loke said the rail operator had taken the lead in digitalising its payment systems. "KTMB has moved ahead of Prasarana (Malaysia Bhd) in implementing digital payment systems. "I'm not trying to compare, but this is healthy competition among our public transport operators." Loke said the KITS Style platform marked a significant step in KTMB's transformation journey. "With this, KTMB must continue to strive to provide reliable, safe and real-time services to both Malaysians and foreigners alike," he said. The KITS Style app is poised to deliver significant enhancements for KTMB's existing 4.6 million app users while simultaneously drawing in new customers. At the event, KTMB also signed memoranda of understanding with Capital A and Mastercard to enhance digital integration and strengthen secure, cashless payments.

Federal govt allocates RM8.79b to roll out 86 projects under 12MP in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU: The federal government, through the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry, has allocated RM8.79 billion until June 2025 to implement 86 development projects in Sabah. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the energy transition and water transformation minister, said the total allocation will be disbursed under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). "Sabah has received a fairly large allocation from the federal government, it is our commitment to resolve two key issues in Sabah, namely, water and energy. "Because without energy and water, there can be no economic growth in Sabah," he said when speaking at the ministry Engagement Session with Sabah Media in 2025 here tonight. He said the Madani government is always striving to ensure that Sabah continues to prosper together as a big Malaysian family. Therefore, Sabah's progress is not only the responsibility of this state, but of the entire nation. "With strong federal-state relations, we can build a more prosperous, just as well as sustainable state and country, with the support of a free and trustworthy media and a united people," he said. Meanwhile, Fadillah also said the engagement session was intended as a platform for the media to better understand the role of ministry and agencies under its auspices. "We organised this session to foster closer ties and strengthen the relationship between the media and ministry's top management," he added. – Bernama
