Berhampur: Authorities at Berhampur University have taken strict measures to ensure the safety of girl students on campus after an incident at a govt college in Balasore, where a 20-year-old student sustained critical injuries after setting herself ablaze on Saturday following alleged sexual harassment by a teacher.
Geetanjali Dash, vice-chancellor of Berhampur University, said campus security had been strengthened by deploying an adequate number of security guards. "In the coming day, we will take measures to randomly check students' identity cards on campus to filter the entry of outsiders."
She added that action was taken against teachers from the Odia, English, and History departments in the last two and a half years after complaints were received from girl students and research scholars."We have taken prompt action against the teachers as soon as complaints were received and have adopted a zero-tolerance policy," she said.
Dash added, "Another complaint was received against an assistant teacher engaged on a contractual basis. An inquiry is underway, and the teacher will be disengaged if the complaint is found to be true."

Prayagraj: SDM Jyoti Maurya's Estranged Husband, A Sanitation Worker, Files Alimony Petition

Alok Maurya filed a first appeal in the Allahabad High Court after the Family Court rejected his alimony plea, seeking delay condonation as the decree wasn't available for 77 days In a new development in the ongoing dispute between Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jyoti Maurya and her husband Alok Maurya, Alok has filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court seeking alimony from his wife. The High Court has issued a notice to Jyoti Maurya and instructed that a copy of the appeal be sent to her by registered post. The next hearing is scheduled for August 8, 2025. The matter gained public attention when Alok Maurya, a sanitation worker, claimed that his wife Jyoti Maurya, an administrative officer, was having an affair. Alok initially applied for interim alimony in the Family Court of Azamgarh, citing his various illnesses and his minor government post, while his wife holds a senior administrative position. However, his application was rejected on January 4, 2025. Subsequently, Alok Maurya filed a first appeal in the Allahabad High Court against the Family Court's order. The appeal, delayed by 77 days, included a request for condonation of the delay due to the unavailability of the decree. A division bench comprising Justice Arindam Sinha and Justice Dr. Yogendra Kumar Srivastava heard the matter, ordering notice issuance on both the appeal and the application for delay condonation. The High Court has directed the appellant to submit necessary documents and the process fee for notice service via registered post or speed post. Additionally, the court has requested an English translation of the Family Court's order dated January 4, 2025. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ex-TMCP member says outfit leaders circulated morphed pics, files police complaint

A former Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) leader has filed a police complaint accusing the leaders of the TMC's student outfit of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to 'spread indecent, morphed images' of her. The complaint was lodged at the Sonarpur police station on Saturday, nearly two weeks after she initially spoke out about the alleged harassment. The complainant was expelled from TMCP a year ago. On June 29, she alleged that TMCP leaders used AI to create and circulate morphed, semi-nude photographs of her among the junior students. In her complaint, the woman mentioned that the distorted images were also disseminated on social media with 'the intent to tarnish her personal and political image'. Along with the complaint, she submitted several alleged morphed images to the police, stating that some individuals are trying to pass them off as real to malign her reputation. While the complainant did not name any individuals in her complaint, she informed police that she is prepared to identify the accused, if requested. She has also urged the police to conduct a forensic analysis to determine the authenticity of the pictures and requested prompt action on her complaint, assuring full cooperation with the investigation. The police are yet to issue a statement on the incident. Sweety Kumari reports from West Bengal for The Indian Express. She is a journalist with over a decade of experience in the media industry.
