PM told me that I was late to reach Delhi Airport roof collapse spot: Murlidhar Mohol
Speaking at the launch of his karyawahal (work review) at the Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir in Pune, Mohol said, 'It was just 6-7 days after the swearing-in ceremony. Ministers of State were called to the PM House in the evening for an informal meeting, and the Delhi Airport roof had collapsed the same day. Modiji was asking everyone about their ministries and if they had conducted reviews. When my turn came, I said I have Civil Aviation and Cooperation. He paused for a moment and asked me 'Aaj din bhar kya kiya' (what did you do all day today?). He was trying to check whether this idiot (Mohol) even knows what has happened.'
'The story gets more amusing. I told him that the Delhi Airport accident happened in the morning, I went to the hospital, etc. He heard me out and nodded his head, and then said, 'Aapko pata hai aap dhai ghante late pohoche vahan pe?' (Are you aware that you reached the spot 2.5 hours late?). After hearing that I felt that where have I come?,' said Mohol.
A book by Mohol recounting his experiences and learning from the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown was launched at the event. Mohol was the Mayor of the city during the pandemic. Mohol's 24-hour public outreach office off Jungli Maharaj Road was also inaugurated after the event.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Minister for Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil, Maharashtra Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, MLA Siddharth Shirole, and various other politicians from the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Nationalist Congress Party were present at the occasion.
Meanwhile, CM Devendra Fadnavis said, 'In 1-1:15 hours, Puneites will be able to reach the new Navi Mumbai Airport, this will be the benefit of the missing link (on Pune-Mumbai Expressway) to Pune citizens. We will be able to create an economic corridor comprising the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune in this way.'

'Objectionable' cartoons on PM Modi, RSS: Freedom of speech, expression abused, says Supreme Court
The Supreme Court on Monday (July 14, 2025) said the right of freedom of speech and expression was being "abused" while hearing the plea of a cartoonist accused of sharing alleged objectionable cartoons of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS workers on social media. "Why do you do all this?" a bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Aravind Kumar asked the counsel of cartoonist Hemant Malviya, who sought anticipatory bail in the matter. Advocate Vrinda Grover, representing Malviya, said the matter was over a cartoon made in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. "It may be unpalatable. Let me say it is in poor taste. Let me go to that extent. But is it an offence? My lords have said, it can be offensive but it is not an offence. I am simply on law. I am not trying to justify anything," she said. Ms. Grover agreed to delete the post made by Mr. Malviya. "Whatever we may do with this case, but this is definitely the case that the freedom of speech and expression is being abused," Justice Dhulia observed. Additional Solicitor General K.M. Nataraj, appearing for Madhya Pradesh, said such "things" were repeatedly done. When Ms. Grover said there should be some maturity, Mr. Nataraj said, "It is not the question of maturity alone. It is something more." Referring to the time of the cartoon's inception, Mr. Grover said there had been no law and order problem since then. She said the issue was of personal liberty and whether this would require arrest and remand. The bench posted the matter on July 15. Ms. Grover requested the bench to grant interim protection the petitioner till then. "We will see this tomorrow," the bench said. Mr. Malviya is challenging a Madhya Pradesh High Court order passed on July 3 refusing to grant him anticipatory bail. Mr. Malviya was booked by Lasudiya police station in Indore in May on a complaint filed by lawyer and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker Vinay Joshi. Malviya hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and disturbed communal harmony by uploading objectionable material on social media, Mr. Joshi alleged. The FIR mentioned various "objectionable" posts, including allegedly inappropriate comments on Lord Shiva as well as cartoons, videos, photographs and comments regarding Mr. Modi, RSS workers and others. Mr. Malviya's lawyer before the High Court contended that he only posted a cartoon, but he could not be held responsible for the comments posted on it by other Facebook users. The FIR accused him of posting indecent and objectionable material with the intention of hurting religious sentiments of Hindus and tarnishing the RSS's image. The police invoked Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 196 (acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony between different communities), 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) as well as section 67-A (publishing or transmitting in electronic form any sexually explicit material) of the Information Technology Act against the accused.

Build ‘Viksit Gaon' to achieve Viksit Bharat goal by 2047: Minister
Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, on Monday called for a renewed push to transform villages into 'Viksit Gaon' (developed villages), as a necessary step towards achieving the goal of a 'Viksit Bharat' (developed India) by 2047. Speaking at the first meeting of the performance review committee of the Ministry of Rural Development here, Dr Sekhar said that a future where every rural family lives in a pucca house with basic amenities, every village is connected by quality roads, every youth has employment opportunities, and every woman is empowered and financially independent, is not a dream but an achievable reality. He said that to realise this vision, the Ministry must move forward with fresh energy, innovative thinking, and deep commitment. 'We are not just implementing schemes, we are writing the next chapter of India's growth story,' Dr Sekhar said, crediting the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cabinet Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the remarkable progress made in rural development. Highlighting the success of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Dr Sekhar said it has become a powerful tool against rural unemployment and distress migration, especially during the agricultural lean seasons. He said with an annual investment between Rs 90,000 to Rs 1,00,000 crore, the scheme generates over 250 crore person-days of work annually, with more than 36 crore job cards issued and 15 crore active workers. The minister stressed the need to move beyond wage payments and focus on creating durable and productive assets through diversified projects. He also called for community involvement in selecting works and greater convergence with other development schemes. On the housing front, Dr Sekhar informed that more than 3.22 crore pucca houses have been built under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G), helping families living in kutcha or dilapidated homes. He said the government has set a target of building an additional 2 crore houses by 2029, and encouraged the use of eco-friendly, cost-effective, and region-specific construction technologies. Dr Sekhar also underlined the success of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), under which over 7.56 lakh kilometres of rural roads have been constructed so far. He suggested the creation of state-level road maintenance funds, use of community-based monitoring systems, and innovative financing models to ensure sustainability of road infrastructure.

Does it burn that BJP did what Cong couldn't in 60 years: Ashoka slams K'taka CM on Sigandur bridge row
Karnataka BJP on Monday slammed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's decision to remain absent from the Sigandur Bridge inauguration event as 'pettiness'. The party further asked, "Does it burn that BJP achieved what Congress couldn't in 60 years?" The inauguration of the 2.12-kilometre-long Sigandur Bridge, built at a cost of Rs 473 crore, has run into controversy after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah alleged that protocol was not followed and announced that no local Ministers or MLAs from the state government would attend the event. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Monday, CM Siddaramaiah stated that it was the Centre that had initiated the conflict. Responding to the criticism, the Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka stated on Monday that, "The people of the Sharavathi backwater region are celebrating today as a 60-year-old dream is finally coming true. They are decorating their homes with festoons and flowers, celebrating this joyous day like a festival." "But like a man who doesn't want the marriage yet goes looking for a stone in the wedding meal, you, as the Chief Minister of the state, chose not to join in the celebrations of this historic day. Instead, you stirred up unnecessary controversy. What can we even say about such pettiness?" Ashoka slammed. Ashoka further charged, "Is it making you jealous that what couldn't be achieved in 60 years of Congress rule has now been accomplished by the BJP-led Central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi?" "Or is it that the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, instructed you not to attend the bridge inauguration ceremony?" Ashoka asked. "When high command leaders call, you leave all state matters and rush to Delhi in a special flight just to save your chair. But you don't have the will to attend the Sigandur Bridge inauguration?" Ashoka questioned. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is visiting Karnataka to dedicate the Sigandur bridge project to the people of the state. Construction work began on December 12, 2019. The bridge, a long-standing demand for over 60 years, is expected to benefit more than 40 villages. Previously, people and vehicles had to use a ferry to cross the Sharavathi River. The Chief Minister had written a letter to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari objecting to the timing of the inauguration and had requested that the event be postponed. Responding to a question on Monday about the inauguration, CM Siddaramaiah said he had spoken to Union Minister Gadkari over the phone and also written to him, requesting a change in schedule for the programme in Sagara taluk. Although Gadkari had agreed to reschedule the event, the programme was schedule for Monday under pressure from local BJP leaders, without informing him, CM Siddaramaiah stated.
