Sophie Turner spills the tea on how 'Game of Thrones' became her unlikely sex education class

IOL News10-07-2025
Sophie Turner on the unconventional lessons she learned from 'Game of Thrones'.
Just like many of us Google whether "2 Broke Girls" stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs are besties in real life (they are, by the way they've stayed close since the show ended), fans have always wanted to know what the cast of "Game of Thrones" thinks about the series that made them household names.
It's pretty normal to wonder what actors really take away from the roles we binge for hours, especially when those shows push the boundaries of what we see on screen.
However, few celebrity reflections have been quite as eye-opening (and relatable) as Sophie Turner's recent reveal about how she got an unexpected form of sex education from filming HBO's "Game of Thrones".
In a candid chat on the UK 'Dish' podcast with hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, Turner, 29, opened up about how growing up on set shaped her in ways most of us probably wouldn't imagine.
'I did love making it … It was the best acting class I've ever had,' she shared.
Without a formal drama school, she says she learned everything from the talented cast around her, from acting techniques to industry etiquette.
' And a bit from my parents,' she added, laughing. But it's what Turner said next that really turned heads: 'I definitely got my sex education from that show. More than enough.'
It's the kind of confession that makes you laugh, but also think about how much we pick up from TV sometimes, more than we do in an actual classroom. Hearing a celebrity openly admit they learned about intimacy and relationships from a TV series feels oddly relatable in our streaming-obsessed age.
According to a 2021 survey by the American Sexual Health Association, many young people cite TV, movies, and online content as their first exposure to topics like consent, pleasure, and body image, often before formal sex ed classes even start.
Dr Emily Morse, sex educator and host of the "Sex With Emily" podcast, has often noted that while pop culture isn't always accurate, it sparks curiosity and conversation.
'Shows can open doors to important topics,' she says, 'but it's crucial to balance entertainment with evidence-based education.'
In Turner's case, it's impossible to ignore how "Game of Thrones" portrayed sex: sometimes raw, often controversial, and occasionally criticised for normalising violence or lacking diversity.
Yet for Turner, who joined the cast at just 14, those scripts became part of her coming-of-age story.

From screenplay to storybook: Dayakar Padayachee's epic quest with 'The Ancient Scrolls of Lukutona'

Dayakar Padayachee with his debut novel, "The Ancient Scrolls of Lukutona: The Bleeding Anchors". As they uncover her secrets, they learn she is a hybrid of dragon blood, linked to an ancient dragon adversary banished to another dimension. This foe now awaits his imminent return to Lukutona, threatening the world and its inhabitants. According to the new author, it tells the story of Naa'ril, an elf warrior from the city of Tarasina, who stumbles upon a mysterious woman in a burning forest alongside her brother. Titled "The Ancient Scrolls of Lukutona: The Bleeding Anchors", the novel invites readers into a fantasy world filled with elven warriors, ancient dragons and epic adventures. Padayachee has nurtured the world of Lukutona since he was just 13 years old, initially doodling these characters in his school books. "Initially, my vision was pretty raw ... Over time, my friend Edgar Roshev became deeply invested in the lore I had built and together we refined it by drawing inspiration from various ancient civilisations," he shared. "This collaboration not only enhanced the world but also infused it with a unique appeal. My cultural heritage and favourite influences, such as the 'Mahabharata', 'Ramayana', 'Lord of the Rings' and 'Game of Thrones', further enriched the narrative. By 2018, my vision for Lukutona had matured enough to start writing it as a novel," he shared. Steeped in a deep and engaging narrative, the novel delves into themes of religion, blind faith, culture, identity, heritage and love. "A lot of the novel explores finding purpose. Characters like Naa'ril, who started out as a militant warrior, to a woman who would protect the person she loves, transcend her arc and journey. Characters like Baroof the Dwarf, who appears to be a megalomaniac tyrant to a man dealing with his past traumas or princes with 'Magnificoes' turmoil." He said the novel is intended to captivate young adult fantasy fans and features a strong female protagonist. Being first and foremost a scriptwriter, Padayachee said creating this novel presented its fair share of challenges. "Writing a book is far different from writing a script for a movie. But working on this novel has been a lesson learned, and I knew writing it would help me have my own IP. Who knows, one day, I can adapt this into screenplays for a live-action series." Bringing the book to life began in 2018. Each element was finely polished with the help of an editor, Natasha France, alongside feedback from Padayachee's friends, like activist Ashwin Desai and comic book writer Luke Molver. "I also had the privilege of having art done by Luke, 15-year-old illustrator Evangeline Lilith and Abhay Maharaj, a 12-year-old illustrator who featured some of their drawings in the book." Padayachee's exciting plans for the novel include an official launch at Eduvos University in Umhlanga on August 17, followed by an appearance at Comic Con Africa on August 27.

Drake's journey to fatherhood was anything but smooth. His ex, Sophie Brussaux, welcomed their son, Adonis, in October 2017. Though the rapper expressed doubts regarding the paternity, he ultimately came around and confirmed his paternity in his song ' Emotionless .' In his lyrics, he shared that he wasn't hiding his kid from the world, but hiding the world from his kid. Drake later revealed that his relationship with his ex, a former adult film star, was complicated. On HBO 's The Shop , the rapper shared the following: I am a single father learning to communicate with a woman who, we've had our moments. I do want to be able to explain to my son what happened. But I don't have any desire for him to not love his mother. I don't ever want the world to be angry at his mother. The rapper went on to say: We have found ourselves in a situation and we are both equally responsible. Now, I'm just really excited to be a great father. Today it appears that Drake is both a present and significant figure in his son's life. He's been spotted attending NBA games with his son, throwing his son cute and elaborate themed parties, and posting heartfelt tributes to his son on his Instagram page. During his show in Amsterdam on 30 July 2025, Drake expressed his deep affection for the city. He revealed that the city holds a unique significance for him. The rapper revealed that Amsterdam is where his son Adonis was conceived. Drake shared the following while onstage: I was just saying backstage, I was saying that this is the place. A very special place in my heart. Because this is where my son was conceived. So this is a big show for me, you know. There would be no Adonis if there wasn't Amsterdam, so shoutout to y'all. Fans were touched by the tribute to both Adonis and the city of Amsterdam.
