Becky Lynch made a triumphant and impactful return to WWE programming at WrestleMania 41 in April 2025, ending a year-long absence that left a significant void in the women's division. "The Man" recently shared in a candid conversation with Variety.com that her much-anticipated comeback was initially slated to happen several months earlier. Still, unforeseen circumstances, including a health issue, altered those plans.
Lynch explained that her hiatus, which commenced after a WWE Women's World Championship loss to Liv Morgan on Raw in May 2024, was initially intended to be much shorter. Her contract was up at the time, providing a natural window for some time off and to pursue other interests.
"I took what I thought was going to be three months off during the summer, when my contract came up," Lynch recalled of her initial mindset. She added, "'Okay, seems like a good time to take a little break, get some stuff done.'"
However, this planned three-month sabbatical extended considerably due to exciting opportunities outside the wrestling ring. "Then other things came up," Lynch detailed, citing her acting ventures. "I was filming 'Star Trek' and then 'Happy Gilmore' [related project]."
As those filming commitments concluded, discussions within WWE turned towards orchestrating her return to the squared circle. A comeback around the time of the Royal Rumble in January 2025 was seriously considered.

"There was talk [of a return] around Rumble time," Lynch disclosed to Variety.com. This would have placed her back in WWE action several months before she eventually reappeared.

An unexpected personal health issue arose just as these plans were solidifying. "But then at the last minute, I got a skin condition," Lynch revealed, explaining the sudden medical problem that forced a postponement of her return.
This unforeseen skin condition became the primary reason the Royal Rumble comeback did not materialize. It necessitated a shift in strategy for her re-entry into WWE storylines.
With the January event no longer an option, the focus naturally turned to the next grand spectacle on the WWE calendar. WrestleMania 41 in April then became the new target for "The Man's" return.
Lynch herself saw the revised timing as opportune, especially with how it could play into a compelling narrative. "The next big event was WrestleMania, so it seemed to make sense," she explained of the new plan.
She also cheekily referenced the storyline that facilitated her specific WrestleMania match. "...especially if I could take Bayley out of the mix and ruin her dreams. It felt doubly brilliant," Lynch added, alluding to the angle where she replaced an "attacked" Bayley.
Lynch returned at WrestleMania 41, teaming with Lyra Valkyria to defeat Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships. This victory was short-lived, as they lost the titles back to Morgan and Rodriguez on Raw after WrestleMania. That title loss immediately triggered Lynch's shocking heel turn on Valkyria.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter in 2018, Madsen said that he thought he'd become so well known as a big-screen tough guy that fans thought that's who he really was. "Fame is a two-edged sword," Madsen said. "There are a lot of blessings but also a lot of heavy things that come with it. I think it has a lot to do with the characters I've played. I think I've been more believable than I should have been. I think people really fear me. They see me and go: 'Holy s--t, there's that guy!'" "But I'm not that guy. I'm just an actor. I'm a father, I've got seven children. I'm married, I've been married 20 years. When I'm not making a movie, I'm home, in pajamas, watching 'The Rifleman' on TV, hopefully with my 12-year-old making me a cheeseburger." "I sure as hell had my rabble-rousing days, but sooner or later you have to get over that and move on." Rodriguez, along with Madsen's managers, Susan Ferris and Ron Smith, released a statement upon news of the actor's passing: "In the last two years, Michael Madsen has been doing some incredible work with independent film, including upcoming feature films 'Resurrection Road', 'Concessions', and 'Cookbook for Southern Housewives', and was really looking forward to this next chapter in his life." "Michael was also preparing to release a new book called 'Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems'. Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood's most iconic actors, who will be missed by many." She would join a women's division that includes other former WWE talents like current AEW Women's World Champion Toni Storm. Since its inception in 2019, a core part of AEW's strategy has been signing prominent former WWE stars to add experience, credibility, and create dream match scenarios. This began with Chris Jericho, who became the first-ever AEW World Champion, and Jon Moxley (formerly Dean Ambrose), whose surprise debut was a major statement for the new promotion. The company made its biggest splash in 2021, signing CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, and Adam Cole within a matter of weeks, shifting the balance of power in professional wrestling. This trend continued with legendary names like Adam Copeland (Edge), who became a TNT Champion, and Christian Cage, who also held the same title. AEW also significantly bolstered its women's division with talent like Saraya (Paige), Ruby Soho, and the current AEW Women's World Champion, Toni Storm. These high-profile acquisitions have consistently generated buzz, provided veteran leadership, and helped establish AEW as a true top-tier alternative in the wrestling landscape. Charlize Theron Reacts to Losing Her Iconic Role

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors "Mad Max: Fury Road" is currently populating plenty of Best Films of the 21st Century lists and one of the people who helped earn the movie its near-universal acclaim is Charlize Theron. The "Monster" star brought the fierce warrior woman Furiosa to life and originally expected to reprise the role in the prequel "Furiosa". Now, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Theron talked about seeing the prequel and the heartbreak of being replaced. Read More: 'The Running Man' Reboot - Everything We Know So Far "I watched it, and I think it's a beautiful film," Theron told THR. "I am a massive fan of Anya [Taylor-Joy]. She's an incredible actor. There's nothing around [the recasting] that, to me, felt malicious. It was something that just dragged out for too long, and I totally understand it." "It still doesn't make it feel any better. I probably lived in [Furiosa's] body the longest out of any of my characters, and it was challenging. It was really challenging. But I am so supportive of what ended up happening, and I think the movie is absolutely beautiful." Charlize Theron attends the Los Angeles Premiere Of Netflix's "The Old Guard 2"at Netflix Tudum Theater on June 25, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. Kayla Oaddams/WireImage "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" was released last year in theaters with Anya Taylor-Joy playing the titular hero rather than Theron, who originated the role. In spite of receiving similar critical acclaim to "Fury Road", it underperformed, earning only $174.3 million against its $168 million production budget. Last year, "Furiosa" director George Miller told ComicBook that the original plan was for Theron to reprise the role, but two things stopped it from happening. First, the film was in development for too long. Second, while de-aging technology was an option, Miller feared it would distract from Theron's performance. "I saw these other movies like 'The Irishman', where they made people younger and particularly I saw 'Gemini Man'," Miller recalled. "What I was looking at was the technology; I wasn't looking at performance. I thought, 'We can't do it.'" THR also pointed to the trend of films and shows being made about the making of famous movies (e.g. "The Disaster Artist" and "The Offer"), and was asked if she thought a similar movie would eventually be made about the making of "Mad Max: Fury Road". "I can honestly tell you I've never thought about that. I do not know what the realities are or how plausible [that would be]. I can't even think about it that way." Theron is currently starring as Andromache of Scythia, or Andy, in the actioner "The Old Guard 2". The sequel is streaming now on Netflix.
