"Mad Max: Fury Road" is currently populating plenty of Best Films of the 21st Century lists and one of the people who helped earn the movie its near-universal acclaim is Charlize Theron.
The "Monster" star brought the fierce warrior woman Furiosa to life and originally expected to reprise the role in the prequel "Furiosa". Now, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Theron talked about seeing the prequel and the heartbreak of being replaced.

"I watched it, and I think it's a beautiful film," Theron told THR. "I am a massive fan of Anya [Taylor-Joy]. She's an incredible actor. There's nothing around [the recasting] that, to me, felt malicious. It was something that just dragged out for too long, and I totally understand it."
"It still doesn't make it feel any better. I probably lived in [Furiosa's] body the longest out of any of my characters, and it was challenging. It was really challenging. But I am so supportive of what ended up happening, and I think the movie is absolutely beautiful."
Charlize Theron attends the Los Angeles Premiere Of Netflix's "The Old Guard 2"at Netflix Tudum Theater on June 25, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.

"Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" was released last year in theaters with Anya Taylor-Joy playing the titular hero rather than Theron, who originated the role. In spite of receiving similar critical acclaim to "Fury Road", it underperformed, earning only $174.3 million against its $168 million production budget.
Last year, "Furiosa" director George Miller told ComicBook that the original plan was for Theron to reprise the role, but two things stopped it from happening. First, the film was in development for too long. Second, while de-aging technology was an option, Miller feared it would distract from Theron's performance.
"I saw these other movies like 'The Irishman', where they made people younger and particularly I saw 'Gemini Man'," Miller recalled. "What I was looking at was the technology; I wasn't looking at performance. I thought, 'We can't do it.'"
THR also pointed to the trend of films and shows being made about the making of famous movies (e.g. "The Disaster Artist" and "The Offer"), and was asked if she thought a similar movie would eventually be made about the making of "Mad Max: Fury Road".
"I can honestly tell you I've never thought about that. I do not know what the realities are or how plausible [that would be]. I can't even think about it that way."
Theron is currently starring as Andromache of Scythia, or Andy, in the actioner "The Old Guard 2". The sequel is streaming now on Netflix.

Dr. Phil's Anti-Woke TV Network Sues Christian Broadcaster After Filing For Bankruptcy

Merit Street Media, a cable television network founded by daytime reality star Phil McGraw, aka Dr. Phil, filed for bankruptcy Wednesday and accused its Christian distributor of sabotage almost a year after it launched with a promise of being anti-woke. McGraw launched Merit Street Media last yearin partnership with distributor Trinity Broadcasting Network and promoted a slew of lineups with popular names such as Nancy Grace, Bear Grylls and Steve Harvey, along with a news team. The TV psychologist's company had high ambitions of becoming 'one of the most widely distributed startup networks in modern history.' 'Merit Street Media will be a resource of information and strategies to fight for America and its families, which are under a cultural 'woke' assault as never before,' Dr. Phil said at the time. 'I love this country and I believe family is the backbone of our society. Together we are going to stand strong and fight for the very soul and sanity of America and get things that matter back on track.' McGraw appeared on the platform last year to conduct a softball interview with then-GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, and in January, he accompanied Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on raids in Chicago and Los Angeles that were featured by the network. Behind the scenes, Merit Street Media faced hard times that led to the network filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Merely months after its launch, McGraw's company laid off about 40 employees. Last month, approximately 40 more employees were laid off. 'Those left are being told very little. We are understandably nervous and have no idea as to the future of the network,' staffers told Mediaite during the first wave of layoffs. The Professional Bull Riders pulled its programming off Merit Street Media in November, claiming the network failed to pay rights fees. In a lawsuit filed in the Northern District of Texas, Merit Street Media attributed its financial woes to Trinity Broadcasting Network, accusing it of 'sabotage' and abusing its power as the controlling shareholder shortly after Merit Street Media formed. A spokesperson for Merit Street Media told The Hollywood Reporter that Trinity Broadcasting Network failed to 'provide clearly agreed-upon national distribution and other significant foundational commitments critical to the network's continuing success and viability.' 'This fresh voice on the national stage is inexorably going dark, going off the air because TBN has refused to honor its commitment to transfer its must carry rights and thereby provide national distribution for the network—Merit Street,' the lawsuit read. The lawsuit also alleged Trinity Broadcasting Network had provided Merit Street Media with 'shoddy production services,' citing teleprompter malfunctioning, an incomplete control room and a lack of engineers. 'Simply put, as a result of TBN's conduct, Merit Street has nowhere to send its broadcast signal and nowhere to air its programming no matter how great it may be,' the lawsuit read. Pixar's ‘Elio' reportedly stripped of queer representation after test screenings

The version of 'Elio' that hit theaters on June 20 is not the same movie that Adrian Molina, the film's original director, intended to put out. Pixar removed LGBTQ+ elements from the animated feature after receiving negative feedback from test screenings with audience members and executives, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film follows an 11-year-old boy named Elio who is mistaken for Earth's ambassador by aliens and is beamed up to the Communiverse — an intergalactic organization — to represent the planet. Trouble began in the summer of 2023 during a test screening in Arizona. After the film was over, audience members were asked to raise their hand if the movies was something they'd pay to see in theaters. No one did, causing Pixar executives to worry. According to THR, Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter informed Molina after a separate screening for company executives that storyboard artist Madeline Sharafian would be promoted to co-director. Molina, who is gay, was given the option to co-direct the film with Sharafian but chose to exit the project instead after his original vision was changed. Shortly after, Docter announced internally that 'Turning Red' director and co-writer Domee Shi would join 'Elio' as co-director. Changes to the film included getting rid of a scene in which Elio shows off a pink tank top made out of beach litter to a hermit crab, as well as removing picture frames from Elio's bedroom wall that displayed a male crush. Executives also asked him to make the main character more 'masculine.' 'I was deeply saddened and aggrieved by the changes that were made,' former Pixar assistant editor Sarah Ligatich, who was a member of the company's internal LGBTQ+ group and provided feedback during the production of 'Elio,' told THR. Ligatich added that a number of creatives working behind the scenes left after the new directors went in a different direction. 'The exodus of talent after that cut was really indicative of how unhappy a lot of people were that they had changed and destroyed this beautiful work,' she said. Actor America Ferrera was originally attached to the project as the voice of Elio's mother, Olga. Following Molina's departure, the 'Barbie' actor left the production because the film lacked 'Latinx representation in the leadership.' The character was later changed to be Elio's aunt and was voiced by Zoe Saldaña. In March 2025, Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger announced Molina would return as co-director for 'Coco 2,' a follow-up to the 2017 film he co-wrote and co-directed. 'Elio' earned Pixar its worst domestic opening after it premiered on June 20. he film made $21 million at the box office and currently holds a 'fresh' 83% critics rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes. 'The Elio that is in theaters right now is far worse than Adrian's best version of the original,' a former Pixar staffer who worked on the film told THR. '[The character] Elio was just so cute and so much fun and had so much personality, and now he feels much more generic to me,' added another Pixar staffer. In a 2018 interview with the Huffington Post, Molina said he was 'all for it' when asked what it would take for an animated studio to green light a story with a queer protagonist. The Times reached out to Pixar for comment, but the studio did not respond.

New Book Claims Clint Eastwood Treated Women Like ‘Cigarettes': ‘You Have To Have Another'

If you've been on a dating app recently, Clint Eastwood's behavior will unfortunately sound familiar. On Wednesday, People got access to Shawn Levy's new biographyabout the Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker titled, 'Clint: The Man and The Movies,' and decided to razor-focus on the book's claims about Eastwood's very messy love life. People's article on Levy's book zeros in on the affairs the now 95-year-old 'Dirty Harry' star had while married to his first wife, Maggie Johnson, from 1953 to 1984 — including his affair and yearslong relationship with his co-star Sondra Locke. Johnson and Eastwood had two children, a son, Kyle, 57, and daughter Alison, 53. Eastwood also has six other known children with five other women. Levy's book alleges that while the 'Bridges of Madison County' star was married to Johnson, he picked up women in his acting classes, on studio lots and even in the apartment complex in which he lived with his wife. 'One thing Mag had to learn about me was that I was going to do as I pleased,' Eastwood told Photoplay about Johnson in 1963, per Levy. 'She had to accept that, because if she didn't, we wouldn't be married.' The 'Unforgiven' star was also reportedly quoted by Levy as saying, 'I'm independent, a vagabond, and [Johnson] accepts me as I am and doesn't strangle me with female possessiveness.' It should be noted that The New York Times says in its positive review of Levy's book that the 'Rahwide' star did not grant Levy an interview, and instead Levy relied on archival interviews Eastwood and those closest to him have given in the past. Levy used several quotes from Richard Schickel's authorized 1997 biography, 'Clint Eastwood: A Biography,' which includes quotes from interviews Schickel conducted with the spaghetti western legend. Levy includes a quote from Schickel's book in which Eastwood admits to Schickel that promiscuity just feels 'habitual' to him, and that fooling around 'became … I don't know… addictive… like you have to have another cigarette.' Although it's unclear if Johnson knew about Eastwood's f-boy attitude during their marriage, Schickel's book implies that she had her suspicions but was in 'denial.' Schickel wrote in his book that Johnson was 'careful to avoid asking [Eastwood] difficult questions. Possibly she was naive. Perhaps she was, as we would now put it, in denial.' Johnson did, however, express her concerns at least once. According to Schickel's book, Johnson once asked the couple's close friend, Fritz Manes, if Eastwood was 'playing around,' and Manes reassured her by playing dumb. Schickel wrote that Manes'believes that Maggie did not fully admit to herself that Clint was unfaithful to her until the late seventies, some time after his relationship with Sondra Locke was well established and widely rumored.' Schickel also quoted Johnson later telling him: 'I was never very realistic about some things,' Johnson told Schickel of Eastwood. 'I used to always hope for the best. I wanted to protect myself. I wondered about it, but I didn't dwell on it, because it probably would have driven me insane. I'm sure there must have been times, but I just preferred to hang in there and not worry too much about it.' To read about Locke's sad fate with Eastwood, head over to People.
