60 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to replace manual checks at Telangana borders; Rs 3.5 crore proposal submitted
HYDERABAD: Crossing state borders in Telangana is set to become hassle-free, as the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has decided to streamline interstate travel by installing Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at 17 check posts across the state.
The department will install 34 cameras approximately 500 metres to 1 km ahead of each check post to capture vehicle documentation, including tax payments, pollution certificates, fitness certificates, permits, and other essential paperwork.
This information will then be relayed to Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVI). The system will ensure that only vehicles lacking proper documentation are stopped at the check posts, while compliant vehicles may continue without delays at border crossings.

The RTA's plan includes the installation of 60 cameras in total, with 26 units to be placed near toll plazas and other strategic points. Lakhs of vehicles pass through check posts daily at locations such as Nagarjuna Sagar, Kodada, Alampur, Vishnupuram, Palvancha, and Zaheerabad. The current manual verification system is inefficient and causes traffic congestion as transport authorities inspect documentation.
To resolve these issues, the Transport Department is implementing electronic enforcement systems. The ANPR cameras capture number plates and assess compliance with traffic regulations.
Officials can access this data via specialised software. MVIs at the check posts receive details of vehicle numbers and any violations on their tablets, enabling them to stop only non-compliant vehicles, whilst allowing compliant motorists to continue their journey uninterrupted.
Proposal for 60 cameras submitted to state govt
According to RTA officials, IIIT Hyderabad has expressed interest in implementing the system. Authorities are currently assessing several prestigious institutions to entrust with this responsibility.
"A proposal to install 60 ANPR cameras has been submitted to the state govt. The estimated cost of the initiative is 3.5 crore. This automated system will streamline vehicle inspections for officials by eliminating the need for manual checks.
Moreover, motorists with complete documentation will be able to pass through check posts without delays," said M Chandrasekhar Goud, Joint Transport Commissioner (Vigilance & Enforcement).

mart signals in place, NMC begins installing AI-powered speed radars
1 2 3 Nagpur: With the first phase of the Rs197 crore Integrated Intelligent Traffic Management System (IITMS) project underway, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), through implementing agency Keltron, has now begun deploying AI-powered speed radar systems on the city's major roads. This comes after Keltron completed integration of IITMS at 10 of the 171 identified traffic junctions in the city. The pilot installation of the speed radar system was completed on the busy Omkar Nagar Square–Manewada Square stretch. Equipped with radar sensors, ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras, and high-intensity strobe flash units, the system is capable of detecting over speeding vehicles in real-time, capturing licence plates, and instantly transmitting data to the city's traffic control command centre. "The radar system was successfully calibrated and integrated. Once a vehicle exceeds the speed limit, the system triggers the camera to capture high-resolution images of the number plate, even at night," said a senior Keltron official. The AI-powered enforcement system is a major upgrade under the IITMS project, which aims to modernise traffic management, improve road safety, and bring down accident rates in the city. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The radar unit on the Omkar Nagar–Manewada stretch is the first of many planned across 32 major roads, where traffic volume and speeding are key concerns. At some junctions or routes, multiple radar units will be installed to cover both sides of the carriageway. In parallel, Keltron has also initiated the conversion of 50 traffic intersections under IITMS. This includes the installation of smart traffic signals, vehicle actuated systems, surveillance cameras, and real-time traffic data integration at each junction. These upgrades are part of the wider plan to cover all 171 junctions with intelligent systems. Each radar and junction system is connected to the NMC's centralised traffic control room, allowing real-time monitoring, data collection, and automated violation alerts. Senior civic officials, including the municipal commissioner, are likely to inspect the radar installation site soon. Keltron's technical teams are continuously monitoring the functioning of systems on the ground. The IITMS project is a critical part of Nagpur's Smart City initiative and is expected to transform how traffic is monitored, enforced, and managed in the city.

UAE's upcoming fines and fees in 2025: Everything you need to know
From stricter Emiratisation penalties to new nutrition grading rules: wave of updated fines and regulations in 2025/Representative Image TL;DR: Stricter Emiratisation fines for private firms came into force in July 2025. New nutrition labelling rules on packaged food products. Salik (toll) system expansion in Dubai, with new gates operational since June 2025. Expected changes to parking fees and privacy regulations to be announced later in 2025. As UAE progresses with Vision 2030 initiatives, a series of new fines, fees, and regulatory changes are taking effect in 2025 directly impacting expats and businesses in the emirate. From enhanced Emiratisation penalties to updated food safety regulations, the UAE continues to recalibrate its legal landscape to align with social, economic, and sustainability goals. June to December 2025 is seeing multiple policy rollouts that residents and expats alike need to monitor closely, particularly with financial penalties for non-compliance now significantly higher than before. Higher Emiratisation Fines for Private Companies (July 2025) Effective July 2025, the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has increased fines for private sector firms that fail to meet Emiratisation targets. Companies with 50 or more employees must ensure that at least 4% of their workforce comprises UAE nationals by the end of 2025. Non-compliance fines: AED 96,000 per unfulfilled Emirati hire, up from AED 84,000 in 2024. MoHRE confirmed the new penalty structure in its June 2025 circular. The government continues to incentivise firms to comply through the Nafis programme, providing salary support and training for Emirati employees. Nutrition grading system From June 1, mandatory nutrition grades must be placed on food items as part of a new labelling system launched by quality control and health officials in Abu Dhabi. Products found on supermarket shelves without Nutri-Mark, which grades the nutritional content of a food item, will be withdrawn and concerned parties will be fined. This will also apply to items that are displaying a higher grading than they should. Nutri-Mark grades the nutritious value of a certain item from A to E, with A being the most healthy. The first phase of the new scheme applies to baked goods, oils, dairy, children's food and beverages. Salik Toll System Expansion : New Gates Operational Since June 2025 Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launched two new Salik gates in June 2025 to manage traffic congestion: Business Bay Crossing Al Khail Road near Dubai Hills Each crossing deducts AED 4 per pass, similar to existing Salik gates. The RTA states that the expansion is designed to alleviate congestion on alternative routes and enhance traffic flow into the city's core commercial districts. Potential Parking Fee Reforms: Expected Q4 2025 Dubai's Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) is currently reviewing city-wide parking fee structures, with adjustments expected by the end of 2025. The changes may include: Dynamic pricing based on demand zones Extended paid parking hours in high-traffic areas Adjustments to seasonal parking permits UAE's Privacy Law Enhancements: Rollout by December 2025 The UAE's updated Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) is set for full implementation by December 2025, impacting how private companies collect, store, and use customer data. Key provisions include: Mandatory data protection officers for firms handling sensitive data Enhanced opt-out rights for users Strict breach reporting timelines (72 hours) Penalties for non-compliance can reach up to AED 1 million, as stipulated by the UAE Data Office in its May 2025 compliance guidelines. Verdict Dubai's evolving regulatory landscape in 2025 reflects its broader socio-economic strategies under Vision 2030. Expats and businesses alike must stay informed on these key changes: Higher Emiratisation fines already in place Nutrition grading system New Salik gates operational Upcoming parking reforms in Q4 Stricter data privacy enforcement by year-end By staying compliant, residents and companies can avoid steep penalties while contributing to UAE's vision of a more sustainable, health-conscious, and digitized society.

Lens & order: Cameras snap 3.6k eway violations in 5 days in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: City cops have issued 3,600 traffic violation challans from July 10 to July 15 on the Dwarka and Delhi-Gurgaon expressways, using 15 newly installed ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras. The enforcement drive, which began on July 10, has targeted violations such as speeding, lack of helmets, triple-riding, wrong-side driving, and unauthorised vehicle entry. According to police data, out of the total 3,600 challans, the highest number, 2,500, were issued for driving without a seat belt. Additionally, 650 challans were issued for not wearing helmets, 250 for overspeeding, 90 for no entry by slow-moving vehicles such as bikes and auto-rickshaws, 85 for triple riding, and nine for wrong-side driving on these two busy national expressways. "We had already alerted the public that we would start sending e-tickets or postal challans for the violations captured through the ANPR cameras on these two national expressways from July 10. Unfortunately, many commuters continue to risk lives by dangerous driving. Our aim is to curb such driving to save precious lives, and thus challenging will be more rigorous in the coming days through the CCTVs," ASI Vikas Verma, traffic police spokesperson, stated. He added that slow-moving vehicles should strictly refrain from using Dwarka Expressway to avoid accidents. Additionally, NHAI installed 110 traffic monitoring cameras (TMCs) to assist the agency in removing vehicles from these highways in case of breakdowns. Notably, in June, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) requested the Gurgaon traffic police to restrict slow-moving vehicles on NH48 (Delhi-Jaipur highway) from Sirhaul border to Kherki Daula toll plaza and on Dwarka Expressway from Kherki Daula to Delhi border. These restrictions required banned vehicles to use the service roads, which the traffic police enforced on June 25. However, numerous restricted vehicles can still be frequently observed using these roads. NHAI's directives aimed to prevent accidents on the two major national highways. The speed limit for cars was set at 80 km/h, while trucks had to adhere to a 60 km/h limit on NH48.
