Crash in Cape May County, New Jersey claims the life of 13-year-old, police say
A 13-year-old from Gloucester County was killed in a crash in Middle Township, New Jersey this week, according to police.
Police say the crash happened around 5 a.m. Monday morning on Court House-South Dennis Road, after a Mitsubishi Lancer driven by a 26-year-old male from Woodbine crossed lanes attempting to pass another vehicle. The vehicle collided with a Honda Accord driven by a 55-year-old male from Sewell, New Jersey with the child inside.
The drivers of the Mitsubishi and the Honda were taken to a nearby hospital while the child, also listed as a Sewell resident, was transported and later pronounced dead at a different hospital.
The roadway was closed for five hours following the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the Middle Township Major Crimes Unit and the Middle Township Accident Crash Unit.
CBS Philadelphia reached out to the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office to see if any charges against the driver have been filed as a result of this crash.

Verdict expected in Italy 'forever chemicals' trial
A verdict is expected Thursday in the trial of 15 managers of a chemical plant accused of knowingly contaminating the water of hundreds of thousands of people in Italy. The now-shuttered Miteni factory near the northeastern city of Vicenza is alleged to have polluted one of Europe's largest groundwater basins with PFAS, dubbed "forever chemicals" because they never break down. The prosecution alleges that the plant in Trissino, which produced PFAS from 1968 and was run by three companies until its closure due to bankruptcy in 2018, leaked chemical-laced wastewater into a waterway, polluting a vast area between Vicenza, Verona and Padova. Fifteen managers from Mitsubishi, International Chemical Investors (ICIG) and Miteni are charged with contaminating nearly 200 square kilometres (77 square miles) of drinking water, as well as soil. Prosecutors in the trial, which began in 2021, have called for the managers to be sentenced to a total of 121 years in jail, lawyer Edoardo Bortolotto told AFP Thursday. Over 200 civil plaintiffs have joined the trial, including Greenpeace and local mothers who united after discovering their families had the chemicals in their blood. PFAS have been used since the late 1940s to mass produce the nonstick, waterproof and stain-resistant treatments that coat everything from frying pans to umbrellas, carpets and dental floss. But chronic exposure to even low levels of the chemicals has been linked to liver damage, high cholesterol, reduced immune responses, low birthweights and several kinds of cancer. The contamination was discovered in 2013 after Italy's environment ministry ordered tests of the Po River following a 2006 European project assessing exposure to such chemicals in rivers. Of all the rivers studied, the Po had the highest concentrations of one specific PFAS called PFOA, a known carcinogen. Further investigation identified Miteni as the source. Drivers racing on Eagan highway were going 100+ mph before deadly crash, search warrant shows
Authorities allege three drivers were in a street race when one of them crashed in the southern Twin Cities metro, killing a teen and severely injuring another earlier this month. The crash happened at approximately 11:17 p.m. on June 14 at the intersection of Highway 149 and Highway 55 in Eagan, Minnesota. Court documents obtained by WCCO say the three vehicles involved in the race — a Jeep Compass, Honda Accord and Dodge Durango — had been traveling at speeds over 100 mph in a 45 mph zone when both the Jeep and Honda lost control. Authorities say the Honda came to a rest in the ditch, while the Jeep hit a light pole. The impact caused the Jeep to split in half. The Dodge stopped without crashing. A search warrant says the driver of a Jeep Compass had been going 100 mph before striking a light pole, splitting the vehicle in half in Eagan, Minnesota, on June 14, 2025. WCCO The Minnesota State Patrol says the driver of the Jeep, identified as 19-year-old Reed Schultz of Savage, died in the crash. An 18-year-old man from Edina, who had been a passenger, is in critical condition and is not expected to survive, according to court documents. When troopers arrived at the scene of the crash, court documents say the 20-year-old owner of the Honda had fled the scene. Authorities reached out to the White Bear Lake man, eventually finding him at St. John's Hospital. A search warrant says the man admitted to being involved in the crash, driving fast, going 90 mph, drinking alcohol and being a "dumb a**." No arrests have been made in connection with the crash.
