UP's health services must be future-ready: CM Adityanath at King George's Medical University

on Monday said that the state's health services must be future-ready to keep pace with global advancements and be able to respond effectively to emerging challenges.
He was speaking at the foundation stone laying and inauguration ceremony of various health projects worth Rs 1,000 crore at
King George's Medical University
(KGMU) in Lucknow.
Addressing the event, which was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak and Medical Education Minister Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, the Yogi said KGMU has consistently set milestones in its 120-year journey and remains a prestigious institution in India.
"An institution or an individual's success depends on how well they adapt to the pace of time. Those who prepare in advance progress. Those who fail to do so face decline," Adityanath said.

of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) have become trusted centres for patients not just from across Uttar Pradesh but also neighbouring states and Nepal.
Adityanath emphasised that people have faith in KGMU and SGPGI because they are confident of receiving quality treatment.
"Even patients themselves expressed strong belief in their recovery, which shows how positive thinking can improve health outcomes," he said, recounting recent interactions with patients.
The CM also highlighted the importance of technology in healthcare, announcing efforts for tie up in a new medical sciences initiative taken by IIT Kanpur with a Centre of Excellence.
"We are working towards having a collaboration between the Centre of Excellence in Medical Technology in IIT Kanpur with institutions like KGMU and SGPGI that will be linked to it to prepare for global healthcare challenges," he said.
The CM underlined the fast-paced expansion of medical education in the state.
"In 1947, we had very few government medical colleges. But last year alone, admissions were made in 17 colleges -- 13 of which were government-run, three PPP-mode, and one private. Today, we are moving towards one medical college in each of UP's 75 districts," he said.
Adityanath added that going forward, district medical colleges would conduct initial patient screenings to decongest tertiary centres like KGMU.
Only those who genuinely require specialist care would be referred to Lucknow.
Reflecting on India's health progress, he said, "From being the 11th largest economy, India is now the fourth. Earlier, there was only one AIIMS in the country. Today, several AIIMS have been established, which also focus on research and development."
Calling AIIMS a symbol of excellence not just in healthcare but also innovation, the CM noted that KGMU has similarly carved a new identity by embracing progress, making its 120-year legacy even more glorious.
Adityanath also praised the double-engine government model (BJP in Centre and in UP) for accelerating health infrastructure across the state and urged doctors and institutions to treat healthcare expansion as a mission, not just a service. PTI

Speaking to TOI, Dr Gyanendra Kumar, professor and head of the department of comprehensive dentistry at MAIDS, said three ScanOair units have been installed on the ground floor near the registration counter and will be inaugurated on Wednesday by Delhi health minister Pankaj Kumar Singh. Each scanner costs approximately Rs 3 lakh. "The scanner is user-friendly and fully automated," Dr Kumar said. "Once the patient registers, they can select a preferred language, enter their name and WhatsApp number, and follow guided instructions. The machine adjusts its camera height, captures images from three angles - front, upper and lower - and generates a detailed AI-based report within five minutes." The scanner employs a three-layer AI system, detecting the mouth, jaw and appropriate camera angles. It also tilts to scan the roof of the mouth and identifies cavities, gum swelling, bleeding and even records body temperature. Patients receive a full PDF report on their WhatsApp, enabling them to consult doctors directly with the preliminary findings in hand.

MCD acts against food safety violations; seals 1,000 units; collects Rs 78 lakh in fines

New Delhi, Jul 16 (PTI) In a citywide drive to improve food hygiene and safety standards, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sealed more than 1,000 establishments and issued over 3,100 notices between April 1 and June 30. Additionally, 3,107 notices were issued and 1,038 challans were generated for non-compliance with hygiene and safety regulations. The crackdown was particularly sharp in zones like the Central Zone (CZ), South Zone (SZ), and West Zone (WZ), which accounted for a significant number of inspections and subsequent actions. The Central Zone alone inspected 840 establishments and sealed 237 units — the highest among all zones. It also issued 381 notices and filed 81 challans. In the West Zone, 640 properties were raided, 157 were sealed, and 193 notices were served, the data showed. The South Zone carried out 561 inspections, sealed 151 properties, and issued 197 notices. The North Zone (NZ) and Rohini Zones (RNZ-1 and RNZ-2) also recorded a high number of actions, sealing over 60 shops each and serving multiple notices. The drive focused heavily on unauthorised and unhygienic food establishments located in densely populated areas, especially near schools and religious places. Officials said the initiative aimed to curb foodborne illnesses and ensure safer eating practices for the public. The financial impact of the crackdown was also significant. The MCD collected a total of Rs 78,70,124 in fines and penalties during the three-month period. This includes Rs 21,74,927 from property-related violations, Rs 21,74,927 from health challans, Rs 6,66,270 from food safety violations, and Rs 27,54,000 from sanitation-related penalties. The highest revenue was generated in the West Zone (Rs18,29,020), followed by the South Zone and Central Zone. Apart from sealing and penalising establishments, the MCD also took steps to identify repeat offenders, conducted follow-up checks, and coordinated with the Food Safety Department for further legal action where required.
