Govt asks private lenders to boost participation in financial inclusion schemes
The call came during a review meeting with senior officials of private sector banks in New Delhi. Indian Banks' Association chief executive Atul Kumar Goel and senior officers of the department of financial services also attended the meeting chaired by department secretary M. Nagaraju.
The meeting reviewed the performance of private banks on various financial inclusion schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Stand Up India, PM Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi and PM Vishwakarma.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of opening of brick and mortar branches of banks and deployment of Banking Correspondents in unbanked villages.
During the course of the review, the financial services secretary stressed upon fast settlement of claims under Jansuraksha schemes, augmentation of banking infrastructure in rural areas and north-eastern region of the country. He also underlined the significant progress made in expanding social security and deepening financial inclusion in the country through various flagship schemes of the government.
The finance ministry also urged banks to actively engage and extend support for three-month financial inclusion saturation campaign (1 July-30 September) across all village panchayats.
The secretary also discussed in detail the progress made by private banks in deepening of financial inclusion and urged them to increase their participation in financial inclusion schemes.

Chief minister Sukhu inspects Shimla 4-lane project, flags hill-cutting risks
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday inspected vulnerable sections of the under-construction 27-km Shoghi-Dhalli four-lane highway near Shimla, following rising public concern over the environmental and safety impacts of ongoing hill-cutting work. Sukhu visited Bhattakufar, Sanjauli, Dhalli, Lindidhar, and nearby areas, where local residents voiced fears about property damage and life-threatening risks caused by aggressive excavation work undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Many blamed the hill-cutting for increasing landslide vulnerability in the region. Acknowledging the grievances, Sukhu said he would take up the matter directly with Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari. He announced that the state govt would provide families living in unsafe structures with a monthly rental assistance of Rs 10,000 to help them find alternative accommodation. A separate relief package will also be extended to those who have already suffered damage due to the ongoing construction, he said. The CM instructed all departments concerned to prioritise public safety and implement immediate remedial measures in the affected zones. Sukhu suggested that future infrastructure projects in hill regions be awarded to local contractors who are better acquainted with the state's fragile terrain. He also urged the NHAI to consider modern construction methods, including tunnel-based routes, to minimise ecological disruption and reduce the risk of disasters. The Shoghi-Dhalli project is part of a larger push to improve transport links in HP, but it has faced increasing criticism for its environmental toll. Sukhu's intervention signals the state govt's growing focus on balancing infrastructure development with community safety and ecological sustainability.

All India Radio station to begin soon in Ujjain: MP CM Mohan Yadav
New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Tuesday that the state's Ujjain district will be getting its very own All India Radio (Akashvani), after he called on Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L Murugan in Delhi. CM Yadav said that the in-principle approval has been granted for setting up an Akashvani station, and requested for early commencement of the Akashvani centre in view of the upcoming Simhastha 2028, read an official statement from the Chief Minister's office. 'Union Minister Murugan assured support and said the necessary procedures would be initiated. Until the Ujjain studio is constructed, arrangements will be made for broadcast through the Indore Akashvani Centre,' the statement added. After meeting with various union ministers in the national capital, CM Yadav informed that the foundation of a state-of-the-art rail coach manufacturing plant by BEML Limited, Bengaluru (a Government of India undertaking) will soon be laid in Raisen district. According to the statement, the project involves an investment of around Rs 1,800 crore, with participation from the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Ministry of Railways, and the Ministry of Defence. CM Yadav said he has invited Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to lay the foundation stone and held detailed discussions on the importance of the plant. CM Yadav also shared that the Madhya Pradesh government is undertaking major initiatives in renewable energy, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision. In his meeting with Union Minister for Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, CM Yadav discussed ongoing projects and expressed optimism about future progress. He highlighted that the upcoming solar parks with a total capacity of 4,200 MW will mark a significant milestone in the state's renewable energy journey. Additionally, collaboration with Uttar Pradesh is underway to develop 2,000 MW of solar power, with an agreement for mutual energy exchange every six months between the two states. (ANI)
