Aubrey Plaza makes first public appearance on ‘SNL50' since husband Jeff Baena's death
Aubrey Plaza made her first public appearance since her husband, director Jeff Baena, died last month. The 'Parks and Recreation' star appeared briefly on 'SNL50' on Feb. 16 when she introduced a musical performance.
Plaza welcomed Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard to the 'SNL' stage before the duo performed 'Nothing Compares 2 U,' which was written by Prince and later recorded by Sinéad O'Connor.
'Ladies and gentlemen, Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard,' Plaza said, while holding a microphone as she stood in the audience with her back to the stage.
Plaza was wearing a blazer over a tie-dyed shirt. She previously spoke about her late husband's interest in tie-dying, noting that the style was part of their outfits when they got married.
'Jeff got really into tie-dying during the quarantine, so I decided that Jeff and I were going to wear tie-dye pajamas that he had made for us,' Plaza said on 'The Drew Barrymore Show' in 2021. 'I made a love altar in the backyard of all of our love objects. It was very witchcore, but it happened.'
Plaza has not been seen in public since Baena died by suicide on Jan. 3.
'This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support,' his family said in a statement following his death. 'Please respect our privacy during this time.'
Baena co-wrote the 2004 movie 'I Heart Huckabees,' created the 2021 Showtime anthology series 'Cinema Toast' and directed the 2020 Netflix film 'Horse Girl.'
He and Plaza also collaborated over the years on several projects including 'Life After Beth,' 'The Little Hours' and 'Spin Me Round.'
When Brady Corbet won the Golden Globe Award for best director for 'The Brutalist' on Jan. 5, he mentioned Baena and Plaza in his acceptance speech while honoring people he knew who recently died.
'And finally, tonight my heart is with Aubrey Plaza and Jeff's family. Goodnight,' Corbet said.

'It's actually the perfect outcome for everyone, and exactly what Jade would have wanted. The boys are happier for it, and the constant in-fighting has stopped… for now.' They added that Freddy 'remains devoted' to his grandmother and had been 'threatening to leave the UK to be with his grandmother abroad if Jeff carried on his legal case'. A source also told the publication that Freddy is again living with Jackiey in her flat in South London, but is also spending time with his dad and brother. Last week Jeff reunited with his sons at 101 Dalmatians: The Musical at the Eventim Apollo in London, where he made his West End debut. 'So lovely to have both the lads come along to watch me in @101dalmatiansuk I love how much it made them laugh and it was really special that they were both there to support me. Thanks for coming @freddybrazier_ @bobbybrazier,' he wrote on Instagram alongside a photo with his sons. 'What a show, loved every minute of it! Goody died aged 27 from cervical cancer in 2009, when Freddy was just four years old. During his appearance on Race Across the World with his dad last year, Freddy shared a heartbreaking insight into his grief following the death of his mum when he was so young. 'I lost my mum when I was four and that was on Mother's Day, which is really hard. I don't really like showing my emotions. I don't even speak to my dad much about my mum either. I just avoid it. However now The Sun has revealed that the family have now patched things up and Jeff has dropped his legal case. A source told the publication that Freddy is once again living with Jackiey in her flat in South London, but is also spending time with Jeff and Bobby. Family friends say the duo remain 'extremely close,' explaining: 'Jeff was never going to keep Freddy away from his Nanny for very long - they've always had a strong bond, Jeff may hate her for all sorts of reasons going back many years, but Freddy loves her very much. 'They had a great time together, playing with her dog and catching up at her flat - where he has often stayed over the years. Whatever Jeff hoped to achieve with his legal efforts, it hasn't worked.' In June, Freddy announced on Instagram that he was going to a rehabilitation centre in Spain, admitting he had been addicted to smoking since he was 12 and was keen to seek treatment. He said: 'I've been smoking from the age of 12 and it's time to stop it was a bad coping mechanism that turned into an addiction something I relied on and something that made me feel sane and somewhat okay.' But days after the admission, Freddy posted again online saying he had changed his mind, writing: 'You know what I don't need rehab. I just need a holiday with a good group of boys or a retreat.' Freddy lost his mother, former Big Brother star Jade, to cervical cancer in 2009 when he was just four years old. During his appearance on BBC's Celebrity Race Across the World, Freddy spoke on the grief he has suffered following his mother's tragic passing.
