Mallojula Venugopal Rao alias Sonu, frontrunner to lead CPI (Maoist), may also give up arms
The Maoist veteran, a Telugu Brahmin with a BCom degree who had appealed to govt for a ceasefire, has lost his agility and leads a motley group which is no match for the elite C60 commandos of Maharashtra or Grey Hounds of Telangana. He is the elder brother of Mallojula Koteshwar Rao alias Kishenji, who was eliminated in an encounter near Kolkata in 2011.
Sonu is likely to lay down arms and join his wife Tarakka, who surrendered before Maharashtra police late last year and is currently staying at Gadchiroli police's rehabilitation camp.
On Thursday, CM Devendra Fadnavis hinted at large-scale surrender of rebels in Gadchiroli, which sources claim is a pointer to the possible laying down of arms by an entire 'platoon' commandeered by Sonu.
"Sonu is likely to be holed up in a forested hillock at Abujmarh. He saw the end coming a month ago and called for a truce," said an official source, adding that all cadres should immediately approach govt or security apparatus and surrender to avoid fatalities.
"Forces are prodding deeper and moving fast. The tables have turned, the guerrillas are under siege, they can no longer ambush with mines or grenades," said a senior police officer.
Though there's speculation about Sonu or his younger comrade Thippiri Tirupati alias Devji (60) heading CPI (Maoist), intelligence agencies feel the veteran Maoist doesn't have age on his side, and is inclined for truce. Apart from the tottering leadership, security agencies pointed out that the tribal cadres in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra are rudderless.
"There's strong resentment among lower-rung tribal cadres against Telugu domination of CC and the way they force tribals to do menial jobs or push them into the frontlines," said an official, adding arrogance and rigidity of Telugu leadership in CC has led to their decimation.
Sources said there's a possibility of an exodus now, with tribal cadres ready to abandon the Maoist cause and return to the mainstream, rather than get neutralised. " Telugu hierarchy in CPI(Maoist) will not allow tribal cadres to lead the movement, even though they don't marshal the force or lead from the front," said a senior official who had interrogated a surrendered guerrilla.

"Bullying can be answered with bullying...": Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Raj Thackeray's remark
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 5 (ANI): Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Saturday said that Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray should tell his party workers that bullying common citizens is not right, adding that Devendra Fadnavis' government should take action against such people, and they should be punished. 'Love for Marathi can be understood, but the feeling of opposing the Hindi language is not right. Raj Thackeray should tell MNS workers that bullying is not right. Bullying can be answered with bullying. Beating someone is wrong. The Devendra Fadnavis government should take action against such people, and they should be punished,' Athawale told ANI. Earlier, at a joint rally alongside Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray advised his party workers to exercise restrain while dealing with citizens who refuse to speak Marathi, however, 'if someone shows useless drama' then he advised them to hit them below their eardrums. 'Be it Gujarati or anyone else here, must know Marathi, but there is no need to beat people for that if they don't speak Marathi. But if someone shows useless drama, you must hit below their eardrums. I tell you one more thing: if you beat someone, don't make a video of the incident. Let the person beaten up tell that he has been beaten up, you don't need to tell everyone that you have beaten someone,' he said. Athawale also claimed that the reunion of the Thackeray brothers would only cause an electoral loss to the Maha Vikas Aghadi. 'Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray have come together; this is a very good thing. This will benefit the Mahayuti more, because there will be a division in the Maha Aghadi. The Mahayuti will also get more than sixty per cent of Marathi votes in BMC elections...' he said. Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC said that the Thackeray brothers have reunited only for the political posturing and there is nothing significant about this development. 'After 20 years, the Thackeray brothers have come together, and good luck to them, but it is nothing but political posturing. Do understand that for every election where Uddhav Thackeray has fought, there has been an alliance that he's formed and broken. This is a characteristic of a chameleon... People feel betrayed because, for the sake of power, Uddhav Thackeray and these alliances have been anti-Hindu. Do understand that Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray had a philosophy and ideology. This is only convenience and posturing by two unreliable parties...' she said. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said that he must be receiving the blessings of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray after the estranged Thackeray cousins, Uddhav and Raj, shared the public stage for the first time in nearly 20 years. The remarks of the Maharashtra Chief Minister came in response to Raj Thackeray's veiled attack on the former, where the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief stated, 'What Balasaheb could not do, Devendra Fadnavis did it'. 'I express my gratitude to Raj Thackeray that he gave me the credit for the coming together of both the brothers; I must be getting the blessings of Balasaheb Thackeray. I was told that there would be a victory rally, but there was also a speech of 'rudaali'. Not a single word was spoken about Marathi... The Mumbai Municipal Corporation was under their control for 25 years. Still, they did not do any work that could be shown,' Chief Minister said. 'We changed the face of Mumbai under the leadership of PM Modi. They are jealous of the work we did for Mumbai, but the public knows everything, and everyone is on our side,' he added. On the language row brewing up in the state, CM Fadnavis said that the ideology of Hindutva takes everyone. 'We are Marathi, we are proud of being Marathi, we are proud of the Marathi language, but at the same time, we are also Hindus; our Hindutva takes everyone along,' he said. Reacting to a viral video from Maharashtra's Thane district showing a shop owner being assaulted allegedly for not speaking in Marathi, Union Minister Chirag Paswan strongly condemned the incident. Speaking to reporters in Vaishali on Friday, Bihar, Paswan said, 'It is beyond my understanding how many divisions will be created among Indians -- sometimes in the name of region, sometimes language, religion, or caste.'While advocating for pride in one's mother tongue, the minister urged for sensitivity and mutual respect. Mathura man supplied drones to Naxals to keep eye on security forces: NIA
A Mathura man, who was arrested in Delhi on June 29 by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his links with the banned CPI (Maoist), supplied drones to Naxalites and trained them to operate the equipment and keep watch on security forces' activities in the forest areas of Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, NIA officials privy to the investigation confirmed. For representation only During interrogation, the man identified as Vishal Singh revealed he had been supplying drones and providing operational training in dense forests for the past seven years, the officials said. The officials confirmed that Vishal Singh, the key accused in the revival of a CPI (Maoist) Northern Region Bureau (NRB), had delivered drones to leaders of the banned outfit in the Chhakarbanda- Pachrukhiya forest area of Bihar. Singh had imparted technical training to cadres of CPI (Maoist) and had also attended meetings with its central committee members deep in the forest areas of Bihar in 2019, the officials further said. The NIA had confirmed that the agency seized digital devices, including hard drives, pen drives and mobile phones, as well as other incriminating material, during a search at Singh's West Delhi house. In August 2024, the NIA had arrested another accused, Ajay Singhal alias Aman, who was in charge of the Haryana and Punjab state organising committee of CPI (Maoist). CPM urges phone blackout from 9 to 9:30 pm daily in solidarity with Palestine
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday endorsed the "Silence for Gaza" global call that urges people to switch off their mobile phones for half an hour every day, from 9 pm to 9:30 pm local time, as a symbolic act of solidarity with the people of Palestine."The CPI(M) urges people across the country to actively participate in this digital resistance by spreading the word: switch off your mobile phones and abstain from posting, liking or commenting on any social media platform during the protest period," the Left party joining the global 'Silence for Gaza' campaign, the CPI(M) stands with the Palestinian people and against the brutal, genocidal assault unleashed by Israel. Let this collective silence be a defiant refusal to be complicit, and a powerful assertion that the voices against war crimes will not be silenced," it added. The CPI(M) quoted a recently-released UN report, "From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide", and said it details how various multinational corporations are complicit in Israel's assault on Gaza."The sinister role of these corporations must be exposed, and they must be held accountable to the people," it said."These corporations feed off our digital footprints, even as they enable genocide. Shutting off our mobile phones for half an hour each day at the designated time is a small but powerful act of digital disruption, a strike against the surveillance capitalism that bankrolls Israel's genocide and apartheid," the Left party war in Gaza was set off after Palestinian group Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people and taking 250 people hostage. Israel responded with an offensive that has killed more than 57,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, displaced nearly all of Gaza's 20 lakh people and left many on the edge of famine.- EndsMust Watch
