"They would talk about holding meetings and not say why, and then all of a sudden the pastor was gone, he was just gone," said an anonymous member of First Baptist Church in Bel Air.
Suspicious bank charges noticed
According to the Harford County Sheriff's Office, church officials noticed suspicious bank charges and missing money last October.
According to the indictment, the theft began in January 2019 and continued until he was caught in 2024.
Investigators say Pastor Champ took more than $135,000 for personal use, such as DoorDash, PayPal, and sports betting.
A member of the church, who didn't want to be identified, said the church still has not addressed the crime.
"I was very disappointed that they didn't come out honestly and tell us what was happening, why they weren't forthcoming and honest," the church member said. "Because money goes to that church, that's the people's money. And why weren't they honest? Why didn't they just tell people?"
Multiple attempts to reach the church were unsuccessful
"I think they need to come clean and be honest with the people. I think the people need to know," the church member said.
Pastor ordered to move off church property
The Harford County Sheriff's Office says Champ was removed from the church account and has 60 days to move from the residence on church property.
He is set to appear in court next month.

DoorDash driver held at gunpoint and carjacked in Methuen, police say

A quiet street in Methuen was at the center of a police investigation after detectives say a DoorDash delivery driver was held at gunpoint and carjacked. Officers and detectives responded to the carjacking Thursday morning at about 2:55 a.m. An man from Lawrence had his Subaru Forester carjacked at gunpoint on Coolidge and East Prospect Streets, police said. Neighbors said police asked them if they ordered fast food around 3 a.m., but they didn't. Police say that may have been the set up to get the delivery driver to the street. Except when the victim got there, armed robbers pulled a gun on him and took his car, leaving him and neighbors on the quiet street shaken. "A little bit scared, I don't like seeing stuff like that, I feel we're in a safe neighborhood," said a neighbor, Karen. "Hopefully the cops will keep an eye on our neighborhood more closely, maybe they need to these days." "I'm also thankful for the police officers that came by because they came by right away and they were helping him out and scouring the neighborhood looking for clues," added another neighbor, Paul. There were no reported injuries. Detectives later tracked down the stolen car, but there is no word on the suspects. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Methuen Police at 978-983-8698.

No arrests made after DoorDash driver shot in front of teen in Boston

Police are investigating after a DoorDash driver was shot while making a delivery Friday night in Boston's Brighton neighborhood. Police said the frightening incident happened on Faneuil Street at around 11:40 p.m. Fourteen-year-old Jenny said she was standing right next to the DoorDash driver when he was shot. She said she had ordered some food from Outback Steakhouse and she and her seven-year-old sister came outside to pick up her order. "It was super scary. He was bending over to take a picture of the food, and that's when we heard, I guess, two loud gunshots like fireworks, and he just fell to the ground, and he was holding his stomach. And he was rolling on the ground," said Jenny. "My first instinct was to just grab her [my sister]." Police said the DoorDash driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Jenny's mother, Castillo, said she's thankful her two girls are OK. "We couldn't sleep, my girls now they don't feel safe here," said Castillo. "They just came out of the door and who would expect anything to happen?" On Saturday, police were seen patrolling the area. The shooting took place right across the street from a playground. The close-knit family said they're thankful no one else got hurt. "Sad and we need to be more alert," said Castillo. "I hope the police are trying to find the people who are making our community not safe. We live in front of a park, and we want to feel safe, and we want our kids to feel safe." Jenny said she's thankful to be alive. "I'm super grateful. I was literally thanking God in every possible way that I am OK and my sister is OK," said Jenny. "I just want to get out that gun violence needs to stop because a lot of people not only lose their family members, their friends, people close to them. And not only does it hurt the person getting shot, it can also hurt the people around them a lot." Police are still investigating the shooting. So far, no arrests have been made.
