Should you spend Rs 1.8 lakh on a pilgrimage? IRCTC's Ramayana tour decoded

The buzz around Ayodhya has only grown louder since the inauguration of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in January 2024. Cashing in on this devotional momentum, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is flagging off its fifth "Shri Ramayana Yatra" on July 25, 2025, via the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train. The 17-day itinerary covers over 30 sacred sites, from Ayodhya to Rameshwaram, blending religious tourism with luxury travel. The Shri Ramayana Yatra, curated by IRCTC, promises 17 days, 30+ destinations, and a route carved in faith, mythology, and memory. This is no ordinary train. Think of it as a five-star darshan on wheels. Shower cubicles, foot massagers, sensor-based washrooms, CCTV-enabled coaches, and vegetarian meals cooked in a modern onboard kitchen. But the real indulgence? Waking up every morning in a new city once walked by Lord Ram. From Ayodhya's Ghats to Rameshwaram's Shores The journey begins in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Ram and the epicenter of India's new religious tourism boom. Pilgrims onboard visit the Ram Janmabhoomi temple, Hanuman Garhi, and take a serene pause at the banks of the Saryu River at Ram ki Paidi. Then, it's on to Nandigram, where Bharat waited for Ram's return; and Sitamarhi in Bihar—Sita's birthplace, followed by Janakpur in Nepal for the Ram Janaki Temple. It continues to Buxar, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Shringverpur, and Chitrakoot, key locations from Ram's exile. From there, the train heads south to Nashik, associated with Panchvati, then to Hampi, believed to be the ancient kingdom of Kishkindha, and finally to Rameshwaram, where Ram is said to have built the bridge to Lanka. The tour concludes back in Delhi, offering a complete circuit through the epic journey of Lord Ram. The catch? The journey comes at a steep price. ₹1,17,975 (3 AC) ₹1,40,120 (2 AC) ₹1,66,380 (1 AC cabin) ₹1,79,515 (1 AC coupe) According to IRCTC, package price is inclusive of train journey in respective classes, accommodation in 3 star category hotels for 1 AC, 2 AC and 3 AC, all meals (vegetarian only), all transfers and sight-seeing in AC Coaches, travel insurance and services of IRCTC Tour Managers etc. According to a press note recently issued by the IRCRC, the tour will start from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station on July 25 and will be operated in Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC tourist train. 'The State of Art Deluxe AC Tourist Train has a host of amazing features including two restaurants, a modern kitchen, shower cubicles in coaches, sensor-based washroom functions, foot massager,' the press note said. It added, 'The fully air-conditioned train provides three types of accommodation viz. 1st AC, 2nd AC and 3rd AC. The train has enhanced security features of CCTV cameras and Security Guards for each coach.' Detailing about the tour itinerary, he said that it completed in 17 days and the first destination is Ayodhya where tourists will visit Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple, Hanuman Garhi and Ram Ki Paidi (Saryu ghat). 1. Pilgrimage planning In India, travel for faith isn't just tradition—it's a long-term aspiration. Much like saving for a wedding or a child's education, pilgrimage is often a place in financial plan. Tip: Create a 'Religious Travel' savings pot within your SIP or recurring deposit strategy. 2. Is it value for money? IRCTC is selling more than a seat on a train. For the price, you get: Train travel across India Accommodation in 3-star hotels All vegetarian meals Guided sightseeing Travel insurance Tour managers and security Also, you're travelling in a fully air-conditioned train with shower cubicles, foot massagers, CCTV cameras, and two restaurants. When benchmarked against DIY religious travel, the convenience-to-cost ratio can work out in your favour, especially for elderly travellers or those seeking hassle-free travel. What's the cost per day? Break it down: ₹1,17,975 (3AC) ÷ 17 days = ₹6,940/day ₹1,79,515 (1AC coupe) ÷ 17 days = ₹10,560/day Now compare that to planning a similar itinerary on your own—flights, trains, intercity transfers, food, lodging, and a guide. If you're looking for comfort, the difference may not be that stark. But if you're travelling on a budget, there are other options. Budget Alternatives Not every devotee can afford ₹1.5 lakh for darshan. Consider: State Tourism Packages (like UP Tourism's Ayodhya specials) Private Pilgrimage Groups from your city Do-it-yourself trips using IRCTC Tatkal, Yatri Nivas, and budget hotels IRCTC Bharat Darshan trains, which are simpler, non-luxury pilgrimage trains starting at ₹20,000–₹30,000 Tax Angle: Can you claim deductions? Unlike donations to religious institutions (eligible under Section 80G), religious travel is not tax deductible. Even though this is a spiritual activity, you cannot claim a refund for the tour expense under any section of the Income Tax Act. Who is the tour best for?

Noida International Airport to be fully operational by November: Minister after review meeting

The Noida International Airport , which has missed several deadlines since its foundation stone was laid in November 2021, will start operating in November this year, industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' announced on Saturday. Gupta, while speaking in a review meeting of the Yamuna Expressway Development Authority (YEIDA), said, "During the SP and BSP govts, the airport project would surface only around elections before disappearing again, like a genie back into its bottle. But in the past eight years, work actually moved beyond files gathering dust. And now, the airport is set to be fully completed by Nov this year. It will be the largest airport in Asia and the fourth largest in the world." This comes amid several missed deadlines. The airport was originally scheduled to be complete by September 2024. However, the timeline was postponed to April this year, then pushed to May-June because of pending work on the terminal building. In March, chief minister Yogi Adityanath had set a May 15 deadline for domestic flights and June 25 for international operations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Seniors in the Philippines Can Enjoy Affordable Private Health Insurance! It said that cargo and domestic operations were expected by September 15, and full international services beginning in November. However, as the deadline approaches and the construction work continues, meeting the November deadline seems easier said that done. The airport project still needs crucial approvals, including security clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and an aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Live Events Officials said that the project is 80 per cent complete, while the runway and airside infrastructure is more than 90 per cent done. The passenger terminal building is progressing steadily, with roofing and interior work currently in force. Supporting infrastructure has also seen significant development. A 750-metre interchange and internal roads connecting the airport with the Yamuna Expressway are complete. Water and sewage treatment plants, which were 40 per cent ready in March, are now advancing rapidly. Furthermore, the air traffic control building and the installation of CNS/ATM systems by the Airports Authority of India are also nearing completion. The state government has now imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), since January 1 since the project is getting delayed every month. Once complete, this 1,334-hectare project will be NCR's second full-fledged commercial airport, after Delhi's IGI. Hindon terminal in Ghaziabad, which is under the Indian Air Force, has also started commercial flights to metro cities.

UAE launches nomination-based Golden Visa for Indians at Rs 23 lakh

Good news! Indians can now apply for the United Arab Emirates' Golden Visa through a new nomination-based route, without investing crores in property or business. The new model, introduced on a pilot basis, allows eligible applicants to secure a lifelong visa by paying AED 100,000 (approximately ₹23.3 lakh), subject to a detailed background check, news agency PTI reported. Shift from investment to nomination Until now, one of the most common ways for Indians to get the UAE's Golden Visa, especially in Dubai, was by investing at least AED 2 million (₹4.66 crore) in property. Some also qualified by making large business investments in the country. What is UAE's Golden Visa? Launched in 2019, the Golden Visa programme originally catered to high-net-worth individuals. In 2022, the property threshold for a 10-year visa was reduced to AED 2 million, widening its reach. Now, under the 'nomination-based visa policy', applicants no longer need to make these high-value investments. Instead, they can be nominated based on their background, professional track record, and potential contribution to UAE's economy or society. Who can apply under the new model The UAE government expanded the Golden Visa categories in May to include: • Investors and entrepreneurs • Top-performing students • Scientists, executives and school teachers • University faculty, nurses with 15+ years of experience • YouTubers, podcasters, digital creators • Accredited e-sports professionals above the age of 25 • Luxury yacht owners and maritime executives Applicants under the new nomination model are screened not just for criminal and financial records, but also their overall presence and influence—including on social media. 'This is a golden opportunity for Indians to get the UAE's Golden Visa,' Rayad Kamal Ayub, managing director of Rayad Group, which is facilitating the pilot phase in India, told news agency PTI. How the nomination process works The background check evaluates whether an applicant can contribute to UAE's market—whether through culture, finance, trade, science, startups or professional services. 'Whenever an applicant applies for this Golden Visa, we will first check their background, which will include anti-money laundering and criminal record checks, as well as their social media,' said Rayad Kamal. After this, the application to the government, which will make the final decision on the nomination-based Golden Visa. India and Bangladesh are the first countries selected for the pilot, with China and other CEPA countries expected to follow. Rayad Group has partnered with VFS Global's Education, Trade & Migration (ETM) Services to offer the programme across India. Where to apply Applications can be submitted through: • One Vasco visa concierge service centres in India and Bangladesh • Registered Rayad Group offices • Their online portal • A dedicated call centre Pre-approval can be obtained from India without visiting the UAE. After approval, visa holders can move to the UAE with family members and domestic staff. 'You can also keep servants and drivers based on this visa. You can do any business or professional work here,' Rayad Kamal told PTI. 'The property-based Golden Visa ends in case of property sale or division, but the nomination-based visa will remain forever.' India–UAE partnership strengthens This Golden Visa model is part of a broader agreement between the UAE and its CEPA (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) partner countries. India was the first country to sign the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the UAE, which came into force in May 2022. On June 1, VFS Global announced its collaboration with Rayad Group to offer immigration advisory services in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune. The companies also plan to set up a new Centre of Excellence that will use generative AI and legal expertise to help Indians stay compliant with immigration rules. 'The changing immigration pattern of Indians applying for the Golden Visa for the United Arab Emirates and for other countries has made India a leading immigration market in the world,' Ayub said in a press release.
