You probably feel so responsible for doing this instead of taking a chance on the road.
But this mechanic is here to burst your bubble because he claims this is the exact wrong thing to do.
Why You Shouldn't Go to the Mechanic Right Before a Trip
In a viral video with more than 433,000 views, mechanic Billy (
@toytecc
) shared a hot take on when you should take your car to the mechanic.
'This would happen to be the reason why you do not take your car to the shop right before your trip to wherever the [expletive] you're going,' Billy says, half joking and half serious.
He explains that a person came in and said they were going on a 900-mile road trip the next day and wanted to get the car serviced to make sure their car could withstand the trip.
'Well, you're not going in this vehicle anymore,' he says with a cartoon villain laugh.
In the video, there's a snapped wire hanging, seemingly indicating that it's a part from the car or from the machine used to hoist the car up during repair.

Commenters Had Mixed Reactions
'Or we find out something is wrong and it won't make it that far,' a top comment read.
'I swear as soon as they say that they are going on a trip or that they need the car by a certain time, everything is jinxed,' a person said.
'If it's not stuck on the lock, it'll still go down,' another pointed out.
'The real reason is if we find stuff wrong, there won't be time to fix it,' a commenter stated.
How to Get Your Car Road Trip Ready
Here are some tips from
AAA
to help get your car ready for a long-haul drive and prevent any roadside issues:
Check all tires (plus the spare) for cuts, bulges, and good tread. Make sure to fill them up to the recommended air pressure.
Get a brake inspection, especially if you hear any sound or vibration when applying the brakes. Don't forget to get the belts and hoses looked at, too.
Get your battery checked.
Make sure fluids—like the engine oil and coolant—are at the correct levels.
Replace your wiper blades if they're worn out. Check to make sure the windshield washer reservoir doesn't have debris and has an appropriate amount of wiper fluid.
Run your A/C to make sure it works. No one wants to be stuck in a hot car for hours.
Make sure you have a solid emergency kit with things like first aid supplies, water, snacks, a car battery booster cable, and emergency flares.

Volvo Cars CEO: dual tech for China and the West is new trade reality
Volvo Cars will develop different technologies for products offered to Chinese and Western customers as trade becomes more fragmented, said CEO Håkan Samuelsson on Monday. 'It's our target now to have two versions of software and silicon components, the computer in the car,' he told Euronews at the EVS38 symposium in Gothenburg, Sweden. 'We need to have a Western version and a Chinese version. That's something we just need to live with and adapt to.' Volvo Cars has been headquartered in Gothenburg since its creation in 1927, although the firm has been majority owned by China's Geely Holding Group since 2010. If efforts weren't made to tailor products to different markets, the firm's Chinese R&D could complicate exports to the US, especially as Washington seeks to distance itself from Chinese tech. In January, the Biden administration finalised a rule banning smart cars from China and Russia over concerns linked to potential US data leaks. Some feared that these cars could also be used by foreign states to interfere with the US electric grid or other critical infrastructure. 'We don't see any risk … that we will be using Chinese technology in the US. That will not happen,' said Samuelsson. Related European shares show slight rise despite Iran-Israel crisis, while oil stays high In this year's first quarter earnings report, Volvo Cars reported a drop in profits, which it partly blamed on the 'current turbulence in the broader world economy'. New US tariffs of 25% on foreign cars and car parts are notably causing a headache for the firm, dampening consumer appetite as well as raising import costs. In the report, Volvo Cars announced an action plan to improve profitability, 'focusing on the US and China markets, as priorities'. Samuelsson told Euronews on Monday that he wanted to change the firm's approach to the Chinese market, tailoring it to local demands. 'We need to listen more to the local people in the region and adapt to local habits and tastes — and perhaps also have some special cars for the Chinese market,' he said. Related How is the European auto industry responding to Trump's tariffs? Volvo Cars announces that it will be slashing 3,000 jobs to cut costs Samuelsson pointed to the new XC70, an extended-range plug-in hybrid recently announced for Chinese customers, aimed at pulling market share away from competitors like BYD. Volvo Cars' retail sales decreased by 12% year-on-year in China in the first quarter, with electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids accounting for 10% of this total. In the US, Volvo Cars' sales jumped by 8% — potentially linked to tariff frontloading — with electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids making up 28% of that total. Although the firm has signalled a desire to focus more on US and Chinese customers, Volvo Cars still relies heavily on the European market. The region represented nearly half of its total sales for 2024, as well as the same proportion of sales in Q1 2025. When it comes to manufacturing these vehicles, some are made on Belgian and Swedish sites, while others are made in China and shipped to Europe. This means that — on certain vehicles — Volvo is exposed to EU duties, introduced last year in response to alleged unfair subsidies from Beijing. 'Tariffs are not going to help the European industry to be more competitive long-term,' said Samuelsson. 'We should have an attitude of free trade and free competition…but realistically that will not happen. I think we're going into a more regional world.' Related Airbus pledges higher dividends as it confirms financial guidance A recent action plan published by the European Commission suggested that Chinese carmakers operating in the EU may be obliged to enter joint ventures with European companies or license parts of their technology. Asked how Volvo Cars would be affected given its ties with Geely, Samuelsson suggested the firm would be untouched, underlining that a significant amount of development is still happening in Europe. 'I don't see any problems with the Chinese technology in our cars in this respect…the software products in the car are to a large extent adapted and developed by Volvo,' he said.

Lumissil Microsystems Expands Automotive Lighting Portfolio with Family of High-Side Linear LED Drivers
Single and Triple Channel Drivers Enhance Thermal Optimization for High-Power Applications MILPITAS, Calif., July 07, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lumissil Microsystems announces the release of the IS32LT315x family, a new line of current-source linear LED drivers designed for automotive lighting applications, and Tail/Brake light combinations. The family consists of three devices: Single Channel IS32LT3151A/B/C/D/E and Triple Channel IS32LT3152A/B and IS32LT3153A/B/E. The IS32LT315x line of high-side linear drivers provides designers with enhanced thermal optimization and fault reporting capabilities. Differentiated by channel count, output current, and fault features to meet a range of application needs as mentioned in the table below. They are available in configurations with either a single 450mA channel or three 150mA channels, with output current configured by an external resistor. Drivers, such as the IS32LT3151A/C and IS32LT3153A/B/E include single LED short detection and support analog current adjustment for LED thermal management via an external NTC resistor or enable dual brightness levels using an external FET switch. The IS32LT3151B/D/E and IS32LT3152A/B drivers limit some features to prioritize compact packaging and cost-saving objectives. Based on a high-side output topology, these drivers allow LED output strings to share common ground, reducing wiring and simplifying harness design. For high power applications, optional thermal shunt/sharing resistors can be added to offload heat from the driver, reducing thermal stress when driving high-brightness LEDs. All devices include open/short fault detection at the LED string level and can be configured for 'one-fail-all-OFF' behavior upon fault detection. Fault conditions are reported through a shared open-drain FAULTB pin, providing system designers with the flexibility to define fault response based on application requirements. All drivers in the family are designed and qualified to AEC-Q100 standards for reliable operation in harsh automotive environments. Additionally, the IS32LT3151C/D, IS32LT3152B, and IS32LT3153B are designed in accordance with ISO 26262 ASIL-B safety requirements. 'The IS32LT315x family was designed to cover all the essentials thermal management, current adjustment, and safety compliance without forcing any compromises,' said Lyn Zastrow, VP of Marketing and Sales at Lumissil Microsystems. 'This product family enables smarter designs without tradeoffs.' All devices support a wide operating voltage range from 4.5V to 40V and are AEC-Q100 qualified for temperature grade 1 (-40°C to 125°C), with junction temperature ratings up to 150°C. The IS32LT3151B/D/E are available in compact SOP8-EP packages, while the other variants come in eTSSOP packages with 14-, 16-, or 20-pin options.
