Tearful Noel Edmonds opens up on 'very dark times' that left him 'suicidal'

Noel's House Party star, Noel Edmonds, lifts the lid on his demons in Noel Edmonds' Kiwi Adventure, in which he navigates life in New Zealand with his wife, Liz
Noel Edmonds opens up about some 'very dark times' in his new series, Noel Edmonds' Kiwi Adventure. The iconic presenter, 76, famed for Noel's House Party and Deal Or No Deal, is one of the most recognisable presenters in the country. However, in his new series on ITV in which he navigates life in New Zealand, with wife, Liz, the star admits he has, at times, felt suicidal.
During last week's show, narrator, Rob Brydon, explained Noel's production company unexpectedly went bankrupt, hugely affecting the star's mental health in 2005. Blaming "some corrupt bankers" for the ordeal, Noel recalls: "My Unique group of companies was deliberately collapsed by some corrupt bankers. And I'm safe in saying that because my bank manager went to prison, along with four others, for 50 years."

He continues: "When the companies went into administration in 2006, I thought I was a crap businessman. I thought it was my fault. 70 people lost their jobs."
After 'winning his battle to get his losses back', dad-of-four, Noel, asked the Lord of the Rings studio to build him a huge statue of a knight, kneeling down, praying for his sprawling garden in New Zealand.
Appearing emotional, before revealing he had felt suicidal, the star said of the statue he calls 'The Guardian': "He's praying before he gets up and defeats the dark force, the enemy."
Noel continued: "I'll tell you, when you go to that dark space… I used to, like many people, kind of look down my nose and think, why would anybody want to take their own life? Why would they want to do that?
"I'll tell you, if you've ever been in that dark space, you'll never be critical, because it is a space where there is no reason."

Following the emotional episode, many viewers took to social media, praising the presenter, who they claimed has "been to hell and back".
One posted on X: "Say what you like about him but he's been to hell and back and is still standing and as someone who grew up watching him on Swap Shop and TOTP etc I'm a fan and will be watching next week."
Meanwhile, another said: "Don't care what you say, I love Noel Edmonds!"

Noel previously opened up about attempting to take his own life in 2005. Speaking to the Mail in 2017, he said: "I've thought a lot about that dark place I got to. Thankfully, it is beyond the comprehension of most people.
"Yes, people suffer from depression. But it is not quite the same as the space you go into when all reason goes, when rationality and logic and hope vanish.
"Life without hope is no life. There is no logic. How illogical, when you adore your children and family, to do that."

ITV accused of ‘cutting key Love Island scenes' as viewers ask ‘what are they hiding?'

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LOVE Island fans think they're not getting the full picture when it comes to what is happening in the Spanish villa. Eagle-eyed viewers have accused show producers of editing the long running ITV2 dating show to allegedly hide the actions of some of the contestants. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 3 Love Island fans were suspicious of the show's editing Credit: Eroteme 3 They say the women seemed to be over the top when slamming Harry Credit: Eroteme 3 It comes after the Grafties showed Harry pursuing Shakira while still with Helena Credit: Eroteme The accusations came after the notorious Grafties Awards episode aired, as fans clocked how the women in the villa started to realise footballer Harry had been the one pursuing Shakira all along. Harry had long been coupled up with Helena, but they decided to split up on Sunday's episode, and he ended up recoupling up with Shakira, after it was revealed during the Grafties that he still had feelings for her. But now Love Island fans have grown suspicious of what they are being shown, especially when it comes to what the Islander women were saying about Shakira. Some speculated that the women seemed to overcompensate by blaming Harry after the Grafties, because they had bad-mouthed Shakira before the truth was revealed. One fan wrote on Reddit: "The Grafties showed multiple times that it was Harry that was pursuing Shakira while she kept shutting it down (or trying to)... I immediately had a feeling they've [the other women] been putting all the blame on Shakira even more than what we saw. "But my guess is they were even more trash talking Shakira on how she is trying to steal Harry, and it's 'all her doing'.. otherwise there was no reason to say this so strongly so many times. "What do you guys think? I like to try and 'outsmart' the producers by guessing what they edit out." One person replied: "I imagine they all kept thinking Shakira was the one initiating these conversations - when it was all Harry. But agree OP there could have been even more side chats on this for this to fully make sense." Another added: "You're so right! Why else say that if they didn't all blame her or had some misgivings about Shakira. "What people don't understand, sometimes very small things that aren't active bullying can make people feel bad and it's not something you can sum up in a clip like a mean comment... Love Island star Harry kisses Shakira's neck and goes in for a snog in very intimate snuggling moment "These are all really small things you can't really put into a short clip but you actively feel it when it happens to you." After the Grafties, Harry admitted that he still had feelings for Shakira, despite being exclusive with Helena. Then Shakira ended her couple partnership with Conor, saying she had suppressed her feelings towards Harry. Harry and Helena ended up going their separate ways in emotional scenes. Helena was then picked by Blu to recouple with after the bombshell was brought back in to the villa in a surprise move. Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

Outlander star drops cryptic hint at future of gripping ITV crime drama away from Starz

Karen Pirie is back on ITV and has been given a major promotion - but will the crime drama return for a third season? Outlander sensation Lauren Lyle has spoken out about the prospects of her other successful show, ITV's crime series Karen Pirie, following its well-received second season. ‌ At 32, Lyle, who is widely recognised for her role as Marsali Fraser alongside Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe in the popular Starz series, first stepped into the shoes of Val McDermid's famed detective in 2022. ‌ Fast forward three years, and the acclaimed crime drama has returned with a vengeance, featuring Pirie's rise to Detective Inspector and her investigation into a spine-tingling cold case from the 1980s. ‌ After drawing on McDermid's initial two novels, The Distant Echo and A Darker Domain, Lyle teased the possibility of more adaptations during her appearance on Sunday Brunch. the Scottish Daily Express. ‌ To which Lauren responded affirmatively: "Yeah, well Val McDermid, who wrote the books, who's dubbed the Queen of Crime, I believe, she's written, I think, the eighth book or something?" As it stands, there are seven published novels in the Karen Pirie series, with Past Lying being the most recent in 2023. The forthcoming instalment, Silent Bones, is set to be released this October. ‌ Lyle also mentioned: "I did the voiceover for the audiobook," and added, "I mean, the production company has said 'Lauren could be doing this into her 40s', so maybe so." She concluded with optimism: "I think everyone wants to see it go." While ITV has yet to officially announce a third season for Karen Pirie, the strong ratings and positive critical reception indicate that the show's fanbase is continuing to grow. ‌ The broadcaster took roughly four months following the debut of the first series to greenlight the show's return, meaning viewers will probably need to be patient a bit longer for official confirmation of a third instalment. ‌ Simon Rimmer interjected, "Because it's such a great character..." with Lovejoy nodding in agreement: "It is really good, yeah. "I think the humour and her, and the bumbag, sets her apart," Lauren elaborated. "Whenever anyone says it's a crime detective show, I'm kind of like... everyone who watches it goes 'Oh my God, it's not that at all'. "You sort of fall in love with this woman and her life, her boyfriend and her personal life. "And then it's not just the case. And with the case you get such a deep insight into their lives, the 80s. You flash back and see the whole of the 80s." After another gripping episode last Sunday, viewers have just one final episode to anticipate this week before Pirie's current cold case reaches its conclusion. Following that, there are hopes the ITV series will bring McDermid's third novel in the collection, The Skeleton Road, to the small screen. Karen Pirie season 2 concludes Sunday, 3rd August on ITV and ITVX.
