FSU's Tommy Castellanos should stand on business. That's the type of QB Mike Norvell wants

Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos is standing on business.
As he should
It was obvious that Castellanos would address his previous comment about Alabama sooner, before the opener, which is a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on Aug. 30 at Doak Campbell Stadium.
A reminder of what he said about the Crimson Tide, in an interview with On3, Castellanos stated that without Nick Saban, Alabama's defense will struggle against him.
In day two of the ACC Media Kickoff, Castellanos remained confident about dealing with Bama in FSU's season opener and seemed to have the support of teammates who feel the same way.
"We stand on what I said," Castellanos said.
"But there's no disrespect between that team or anything like that. It's just the confidence that I have in my teammates and the way we've been preparing and putting this preparation together this off-season, I just feel confident in the guys and the work that we've been putting in. Just feel confident in me and my teammates and Coach Norvell and how he's get."
Whether the results will go against Castellanos' favor, and the internet world will react to it in the worst way possible, his point has been made.
Why can't Castellanos feel that no defensive team can stop him?
This is the same quarterback who produced 3,300 total yards and 28 total touchdowns on his own as a sophomore, including 1,113 yards on the ground.

Tommy Castellanos' confidence is exactly what FSU football needs
No football player, coach, or fan needs a choir boy behind center. Even for head coach Mike Norvell, when he fiercely stated that he is not looking for sidekicks.
Castellanos seems like the no-sidekick kind of guy. The moment he enrolled at FSU, Castellanos was viewed as a leader. He does have an enriching personality, as he alluded to on different occasions.
He is the complete opposite of DJ Uiagalelei last, who was quiet and as aggressive when commanding his teammates, at least from what we've seen from a distance.
Castellanos has a combination of a Jameis Winston-type attitude, as he compares himself, but also a mixture of Jordan Travis when it comes to swag, and can back things up with his level of play.
No, we didn't see it last in his final tenure at Boston College. Castellanos clearly didn't fit the pro-style offense created by Bill O'Brien, which led to a complete fall-off in his season and ultimately resulted in his departure from the program after being benched late in the year.
"You know, I'm very thankful for Boston College and all the people there that supported mewhen I was there," Castellanos said.
"I had a great time there. But we're past that. I'm focused on this season and focused on everything going forward with my new teammates and my new team."
Castellanos has a clean slate with nothing to lose. He's off the radar of everyone as one of the top QBs in his own conference, let alone on a national scale. That means no one will see it coming, except Castellanos.

Everything Ryan Grubb said about Alabama's quarterbacks after second practice

On Thursday afternoon, new Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb spoke to the media for what was the first time since fall camp began. As part of this, Grubb was asked multiple times about the Crimson Tide's ongoing quarterback competition, one in which Ty Simpson, Austin Mack, and Keelon Russell are vying to start for Alabama in their Week 1 matchup against Florida State. Grubb also gave his comments on the trio Thursday, listing differences between the group, when he'd like to name the starter, and more. Here is everything Grubb said Thursday during his media availability about Alabama's quarterbacks in particular. Ryan Grubb on differences between Alabama's quarterbacks "All these guys, I think they're in different levels of their progression as quarterbacks in college, and I think that all of them, just like any position, have a lot of different strengths. I think that right now, Ty is continuing to show a ton of command. I thought he did a better job today than the other two guys with that, so he continues to progress as a leader, and Keelon's ability to see the field and just his vision, his innate ability to make a play even potentially when there's not one there, is a really, really high level, and then Austin just has elite arm talent. A big guy that's strong and can power through things." Ryan Grubb on his message to Alabama's quarterbacks "Consistency. Take care of the ball. You gotta be a guy that can move us forward. I think one of the biggest things that we're stressing right now is minimizing negative yardage plays. Starts with us making sure we got the right mic points on protection or run scheme. So make sure the ball is moving forward and the o-line's on the same page, and then, you know, making great decisions with the football." Ryan Grubb on how Ty Simpson can win the starting job "He's got to do it every day between now and Florida State. When we start that preparation, whoever that person is has got to come out and be able to show that it's clearly him, and that's what this football team needs, and all three of those guys know that. So I think being able to show up and do that every day and not waver in and out of the type of player he is, the type of decision maker he is, the inconsistencies that a young quarterback would show or a quarterback that's not ready to start. So as long as Ty can do that, or one of the other guys, that's going to be the player that's going to start a quarterback." Ryan Grubb on when he'd prefer to name starting quarterback "Yesterday. Yesterday, if I'm being honest, but you've gotta let it run its course. It's not there yet, and we've been through this before, more than once, and you just gotta let it run its course. We've got a pretty detailed plan on how we'll figure those things out and information that we share with the guys every day, and when it's the right time, we'll be ready to pull the trigger." Former Alabama shortstop changes teams at MLB trade deadline

Announced on Wednesday night, former Alabama Crimson Tide shortstop Jim Jarvis has been traded to the Atlanta Braves as part of a deal at the MLB trade deadline. Jarvis was the return for Atlanta in a trade with the Detroit Tigers that sent right-handed pitcher Rafael Montero the other way. A former 11th round pick by Detroit in the 2023 MLB draft out of Alabama, Jarvis is currently in his third professional season with the Tigers organization, appearing in 77 games with the Double-A Erie SeaWolves. So far this season, Jarvis has slashed .242/.316/.336 with two home runs, 29 RBI, and eight stolen bases. At Alabama from 2020-23, Jarvis was a four-year starter at shortstop for the Crimson Tide who slashed a combined .262/.373/.366 across 196 career games. Jarvis also had 10 home runs, 75 RBI, and 25 stolen bases during his time at Alabama, and was also a 2023 SEC All-Defensive selection. Where CBS Sports ranks Alabama football's strength of schedule entering 2025 season

The 2025 Alabama football schedule is largely unchanged from a season ago. The Crimson Tide are less than a month out from their season opener, and while Florida State is a new addition to Alabama's schedule, facing Mike Norvell's team isn't as daunting a task as Texas and Ohio State will have when they square off on Aug. 30. Even so, Alabama won't have the luxury of a glorified warm-up scrimmage akin to last year's Week 1 opponent (Western Kentucky). In SEC play, the opponents are the same for all 16 teams as a year ago. The only difference is home vs. away. In Alabama's case, the Crimson Tide will face Georgia, Missouri, South Carolina and Auburn on the road and welcome Vanderbilt, Tennessee, LSU and Oklahoma to Tuscaloosa. Likewise, the Wisconsin Badgers visit Bryant-Denny Stadium in Week 3 after Alabama played at Camp Randall last season. Strength of schedule is annually the top metric used when it comes to determining the College Football Playoff field. Alabama benefited significantly from that metric over Florida State in 2023 and over Ohio State in 2017 (despite howls of protest from many national sportswriters). With Week 1 just 30 days away, CBS Sports has attempted to rank all 16 SEC schools' strength of schedule from the toughest to the least challenging. In his 2025 schedule rankings Thursday, analyst Brandon Marcello put the Crimson Tide near the middle of the pack, giving them the 10th toughest strength of schedule in the SEC. Marcello said: "It's difficult to get a read on Florida State, but opening the season against a team of unknown talent is going to come with a learning curve. Road trips to Georgia, Missouri and South Carolina await later in the year. The good news is LSU, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Oklahoma are coming to Tuscaloosa." Marcello pointed to the potential slips-ups in Alabama's schedule, pointing to the month-long stretch where the Tide will face Georgia, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Tennessee and South Carolina -- five straight Saturdays without a bye. "The schedule sets up for a bounce-back year and CFP appearance," Marcello continued, "but there are pitfalls, particularly with Vanderbilt -- which upset then-No. 1 Alabama last season -- the week after the road trip to Georgia and subsequent games against Missouri (road), Tennessee and South Carolina (road) without a bye week." Marcello ranked Vanderbilt with the toughest schedule in the SEC, followed by Mississippi State. Conversely, he awarded Missouri with the least challenging slate, followed by Tennessee. Alabama's season opener against FSU in Tallahassee is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on Aug. 30. The game will be televised on ABC.
