JAY-Z's Defamation And Extortion Lawsuit Against Tony Buzbee Gets Dismissed

Yahoo2 days ago
JAY-Z's campaign against Tony Buzbee has run into a snag. A California judge dismissed his extortion and defamation lawsuit against the controversial attorney.
Mark Epstein, a Los Angeles County judge, admitted he was not 'wholly satisfied' with his decision in a new 65-page ruling, per Rolling Stone. Epstein said he had to weigh the 'competing interests at play,' but would ultimately leave the final decision in the hands of the Court Of Appeal. So, despite making this decision, he ended his ruling saying to 'stay tuned.'
Hov sued Buzbee last year after the rape accusations against him were dropped, which the Texas lawyer was a driving force behind. The Brooklyn rapper claimed that Buzbee knew he was operating on false information, yet still proceeded with the suit. He also accused the 56-year-old attorney of contacting him on two separate occasions to demand money before adding him to Diddy's rape lawsuit, which Hov believes was due to him not handing over the requested money.
The '99 Problems' rapper's legal team was not pleased with Judge Epstein's decision. 'We are surprised and disappointed by this ruling which turns on the misapplication of California law on the admissibility of the investigators' statements,' his lawyer, Alex Spiro, told Rolling Stone.
'Notably, the Judge expressly states that his decision would have 'change[d] dramatically' if he had admitted the statements into evidence as they would have shown 'not only that Carter had nothing to do with any sexual assault on Doe, but that Buzbee knew it…' and thus 'the court would come out the other way on this motion.' What does it say about our justice system if someone can knowingly bring about completely false claims of the most heinous nature imaginable against an innocent individual and get away with it on a technicality?'
Buzbee, on the other hand, was thrilled to be on the right side of a dropped lawsuit this time around. 'Yet another huge win!!' he wrote on X. 'John Doe's case against me and The Buzbee Law Firm alleging extortion and defamation was thrown out by the court. As I said when it was filed, the case was completely meritless. We will now seek attorneys' fees against John Doe for bringing the legally flawed case.'

G Flip Will Channel ‘Butch Springsteen' on Eighties-Inspired Album ‘Dream Ride'

G Flip is taking us back to the Eighties. On Thursday, the Australian star announced that they will release their third album, Dream Ride, on Sept. 5 inspired by the sound of the era — and channeling an alter ego they're nicknaming 'Butch Springsteen.' 'When diving in and writing this record, I was sonically captivated by the '80s. I love the use of reverb, the drum tones, all the sonics, the musicality, the soloing, and big drum moments,' G Flip said in a press statement. 'I also really wanted to make a world to accompany the music and storytelling. I kept asking myself, 'Who would I have been in the 80's? What would I wear, what haircut would I have, and what car would I drive?'' G Flip explained that Dream Ride was born after many late-night drives to the studio, which inspired car-themed lyrics in the songs they were creating. 'I also love old cars and totally wanted to drive a Barracuda around,' they admit. (The album cover sees G Flip posing outside of a hot-pink car with a retro-inspired design.) To celebrate the album announcement, G Flip released the single 'In Another Life,' which they say is the start of their album's Dream Ride. The LP is also set to feature previously released singles 'Disco Cowgirl' and 'Big Ol' Hammer,' which starred Fortune Feimster. Dream Ride follows their second studio album, Drummer, which dropped in 2023. 'I wanted to bring back just how I go about making music from the band sense and as a kid. The new record's very instrument-based, very drum-heavy, very organic-sounding,' they told Rolling Stone. 'There's no loops that I got from the internet. Not saying that that's a bad thing, but for my creative process, I wanted it to be very hands-on and me physically playing everything.' This is not a drill: A new Justin Bieber album is coming. On Thursday, Justin Bieber shared multiple videos and photos of billboards posted in various cities that reveal a track list and title for his upcoming seventh studio album: 'Swag.' One of the billboards, located in Times Square, featured the names of 20 songs, including 'Daisies,' 'Yukon,' '405,' 'Forgiveness,' and 'Walking Away.' (See the full track list below.) The billboard did not list any features on the album. The outlet reports that Bieber hosted 'jam sessions' with artists such as Gunna, Cash Cobain, and Sexyy Redd while there. On his Instagram Stories on Thursday, Bieber shared HQ versions of the billboard images, including one where he faces the camera and his wife, Hailey Bieber, stands in the background holding their child in a diaper. Other photos show Bieber playing with his baby and posing for pictures with Hailey. She also shared photos of several billboards to her own Instagram Story, featuring the word 'Swag,' and black-and-white images of Bieber with a buzzcut. Along with the album news, Bieber also released his new fashion brand, SKYLRK, on Thursday. Swag will mark his seventh album ever and his first since 2021's Justice, which featured songs such as 'Peaches,' 'Hold On,' and 'Lonely.' He also dropped a six-song EP that year titled Freedom, serving as a gospel-inspired follow-up to Justice. Track List 1. 'All I Can Take'2. 'Daisies'3. 'Yukon'4. 'Go Baby'5. 'Things You Do'6. Justin Bieber Addresses Rumors of Marriage Struggles on New Album ‘Swag': ‘I Ain't Walking Away'

Justin Bieber is still a wife guy on his new album Swag. The singer announced the surprise album less than 12 hours before its release, with billboards and a flurry of Instagram posts signaling its arrival. With how fraught the past few years of Bieber's life and career have been, many were curious about what the sound and themes of his new album would be. Since 2021's Justice, Bieber's been relatively quiet on the career front. He canceled most of his Justice tour dates, needing to prioritize his physical health after battling Lyme disease and Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Then, in 2023, he sold his entire music catalog for $200 million. As the deal was announced, it seemed that the following two years evolved into the dissolution of his friendship and working partnership with manager Scooter Braun, who retired entirely from artist management. He and his wife, Hailey, welcomed son Jack Blues last August. In the months following the birth of their son, fans and gossip magazines worried about Bieber's mental health due to an uptick in erratic Instagram posts, mostly of him smoking blunts. After an especially strange comment about Hailey's Vogue cover, where he indicated that during a fight, he once told her she would never be on the cover of Vogue, rumors swirled that their marriage was on the rocks. With Swag, Bieber squashes all concerns about the health of his marriage. He previewed the album with a new photo shoot that heavily featured Hailey and their son. The album itself is similar to Changes in its intimate examination of Bieber's married life, but much more musically complex and interesting. On 'Walking Away,' he offers a glimpse into the types of natural ups and downs of being in a relationship with someone. 'And girl we better stop before we say some shit/We've been testing our patience,' he sings on the pre-chorus. 'I think we better off if we just take a break/And remember what grace is.' As the song goes on, he confirms that in spite of these 'growing pains,' he wouldn't be giving up on this relationship any time soon. On 'Go Baby,' he celebrates his wife's accomplishments, specifically the successful lip gloss phone case for her beauty brand Rhode: 'That's my baby/She's iconic/iPhone case/lip gloss on it,' he says in the opening lines. He proceeds to offer to be a shoulder for her to cry on when things get tough. In between some more lusty lyrics for his wife, Swag includes some choice samples from a recent viral video of him confronting a swath of paparazzi who were stalking him. The video turned into a meme, specifically the line 'It's not clocking to you that I'm standing on business.' He already had a great sense of humor about the moment, reposting edits of it on his Instagram, but also sampled the video on the song 'Butterflies' as well as the Druski-featuring skit 'Standing on Business.' On a different skit with Druski titled 'Therapy Session,' Bieber addresses concerns about his mental health, revealing how much it has started to bug him when people ask him how he's doing. 'I have had to go through a lot of my struggles as a human, as all of us do, really publicly, and so people are always asking if I'm okay and that starts to really weigh on me,' he says. 'It starts to make me feel like I'm the one with issues and everyone else is perfect.' Besides Druski, Bieber's latest features guest appearances from Dijon, Gunna, Lil B, Sexyy Red, Cash Cobain, Eddie Benjamin, and Marvin Winans.
