Kia Carens Clavis EV to launch in India tomorrow, set to be first 7-seater electric MPV in segment
The Carens Clavis EV is positioned to cater to urban families looking for a practical electric mobility option that does not compromise on space or convenience. The model borrows its silhouette from the ICE-powered Carens, but includes distinct visual changes to set it apart.
Externally, the Clavis EV is expected to retain the MPV-friendly proportions of its petrol and diesel counterparts. However, Kia could introduce electric-specific styling updates, including a closed-off front grille that doubles as the charging port, redesigned bumpers, and new aerodynamic alloy wheels aimed at enhancing efficiency. The rear is likely to carry forward the connected LED light bar seen on the standard model.
The interior will largely resemble the ICE version, albeit with an EV-specific digital interface. Expect dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation, a new two-spoke steering wheel, and a revised lower centre console offering additional storage. A dual-tone black-and-white interior theme is also anticipated.
Convenience features expected include a powered and ventilated driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, wireless charging pads for both front and rear passengers, a panoramic sunroof, and an auto-dimming internal rearview mirror.
Kia is likely to equip the Clavis EV with six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitoring, and tyre pressure monitoring. In addition, Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) may be included, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, driver attention warning, and autonomous emergency braking.
The Carens Clavis EV is expected to come with a 51.4 kWh battery pack offering a claimed range of up to 490 km on the MIDC cycle. A smaller 42 kWh variant may also be introduced, offering a slightly reduced range of approximately 400 km. While official powertrain figures are yet to be confirmed, the EV is likely to use a front-wheel-drive setup with output in the range of 135 to 170 PS.

Kia Carens Clavis EV launch today, the latest electric MPV in the block
Kia has been known for introducing advanced technology-aided high-end features in its cars. The Carens Clavis EV, too, is expected to follow the same path. The carmaker has teased some images of the Carens Clavis EV, which suggests that the electric MPV will come with V2L technology, which means the EV will be able to power a wide range of appliances and gadgets using its own battery power. Expect it to come with V2V feature as well, which will allow the Kia Carens Clavis EV to power other electric cars. Kia has confirmed that the upcoming Carens Clavis electric MPV will offer a range of up to 490 km on a single charge. However, the car manufacturer has remained tight-lipped about the power output and the size of the battery pack the Carens Clavis EV will have. Expect the electric Kia MPV to be powered by a 51.4 kWh battery pack, while a 42 kWh battery pack could be there as well, in the lower variant. Kia Carens Clavis EV will come in a segment that doesn't have much models. In the Indian electric MPV segment, currently only BYD has one offering in the form of the eMAX 7. However that comes priced at a pricing range of over ₹ 25 lakh. The Kia Carens Clavis EV with its strategy of local manufacturing aims to be a more affordable offering for the Indian consumers. But, it will see tough competition from rivals in the electric SUV space that have been dominating the Indian electric passenger vehicle market. The Kia Carens Clavis EV is expected to arrive as a seven-seater alternative to the models such as Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta EV, Mahindra BE 6 among others. The Kia Carens Clavis EV will feature a seven-seat layout. It remains to be seen if Kia also offers a six-seat configuration with the electric MPV. Some of the other key features inside the cabin of the Carens Clavis EV will include a panoramic sunroof, a dual-spoke multifunction steering wheel, dual digital displays including an instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system, a floating centre console, roof-mounted rear AC vents, a wireless mobile charger, and ambient lighting. The Kia Carens Clavis EV, the electric iteration of the Carens Clavis will come closely following the design philosophy as the ICE-powered MPV. However, there will be some subtle yet significant distinctive styling elements as well. At the front, the most prominent difference will be the charging socket at the nose section. Besides that, the LED fog lamp positioning, aero-alloy wheels would be other distinctive elements. The Kia Carens Clavis with internal combustion engine is available in India at a starting price of ₹ 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). With a plenty of shared elements with the ICE model and local manufacturing, Kia is expected to keep the pricing of the Carens Clavis EV competitive. In that case, we can expect it to come priced around ₹ 18 lakh (ex-showroom). However, we will get to know more details in a few hours. Kia India with its range of passenger vehicles such as Seltos, Sonet and Carens have already grabed a strong spot in the Indian passenger vehicle market. The South Korean auto giant from the Hyunai group sells electric cars in India as well, in the form of EV6 and EV9. However, both of them are positioned in the high-end segment with expensive price tags. Now, the carmaker is aiming to boost ots EV market share and sales in India with the Carens Clavis EV. In an attempt to do that, the Kia Carens Clavis EV will be built locally in India that will eventually keep its pricing competitive. In fact, Kia Carens Clavis EV is going to be the brand's first made-in-India all-electric car. First Published Date: 15 Jul 2025, 06:52 am IST
