Notably, India, Pakistan, UAE and Oman are placed in Group A, while Group B comprises of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. It's also the first time Asia Cup, to be held in the T20I format keeping in mind the preparation of teams for the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, will have eight teams.
Top two teams from each group will progress to the Super Fours stage, with the top two facing each other in the title clash to decide the winner of the 17th edition of the Asia Cup, which kicks off with Afghanistan facing Hong Kong China.
The hosting rights of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 are with India, but after an agreement struck between the BCCI and the PCB due to geopolitical and diplomatic tensions, tournaments held in India or Pakistan will see a neutral venue provided for the other side for a three-year period.
The agreement came about ahead of the Champions Trophy held in Pakistan earlier this year. India played all their games in Dubai. The final, which India qualified for and won, was also held in Dubai.
India are the defending champions of the Asia Cup, having beaten Sri Lanka in the 2023 final held in the 50-over format in Colombo. Sri Lanka had won the Asia Cup in the T20I version after beating Pakistan in the final in 2022.

Lionel Messi injury: Will Inter Miami star miss Leagues Cup game against Pumas UNAM
Lionel Messi, World Cup winner and Inter Miami star, suffered a hamstring injury during his side's Leagues Cup win over Club Necaxa. Trainers had to come and help an injured Lionel Messi, who was eventually subbed off in the 11th minute. (Getty Images via AFP) Messi was injured in the eighth minute of the game when he fell to a challenge by a pair of defenders near the penalty area. His team went on to win the game in penalty shootouts. Meanwhile, the 38-year-old Argentine walked back towards the bench before sitting down on the pitch. Trainers came out and worked on his right upper thigh area before he subbed out in the 11th. What the Inter Miami coach said about Messi's injury Javier Mascherano, the team coach, spoke about the forward's inujry after the game. He said that Messi wasn't necessarily in pain, but had felt a pull. He indicated Messi would be examined on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury. Also Read | MLS suspension of Messi and Alba is 'draconian,' Inter Miami owner says 'There's probably something there,' Mascherano said. Will Messi be available for the match against Pumas UNAM? Inter Miami take on Pumas UNAM on August 7 for the Leagues Cup group stage match, meaning the next game is four days away. Depending on the severity of the injury, Messi could either be part of the lineup or out of the squad. For Grade 1 hamstring injuries, one might feel better in less than a week, Cleveland Clinic noted. Given the kind of medical care star athletes like Messi have access to, if his injury is not that serious, he could well be back on his feet for the UNAM soccer match. Grade 2 and 3 injuries take longer to heal from, likely several months. However, given that Messi could make it back to the bench on his own feet and didn't need a stretcher or assistance in particular, indicates that the injury might not be that serious, since he was able to put some pressure on his feet. The Inter Miami-Necaxa game ended 2-2 before the former won in penalties. Both sides played with ten men, since Inter's Maxi Falcón got a red card in the opening minutes, and Necaxa's Cristian Calderón was sent off in the 60th minute. (With AP inputs)

Shame On Government, Blood Money, Cursed Money: Opposition Party MP Slams Narendra Modi Govt On IND VS PAK Asia Cup Clash
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi launched a fierce attack on the government and the BCCI for permitting a cricket match between India and Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup. She accused them of placing monetary interests above the sacrifices of Indian soldiers and civilians, calling it not just 'blood money' but 'cursed money.' 'When money is more important than the blood of our fellow Indians and our men in uniform. Shame on GoI for being a hypocrite on Operation Sindoor. And dear BCCI this is not just blood money that you'll seek to earn but also cursed money,' Chaturvedi wrote on X, apparently referencing the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Her comments came shortly after the Asian Cricket Council announced the 2025 Asia Cup schedule and match venues in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, promoting the India‑Pakistan contest as a 'Blockbuster Fixture.' According to the schedule, India and Pakistan will face off on 14 September 2025, with potential rematches during the Super Four stage and final. India and Pakistan are grouped alongside UAE and Oman in the T20 tournament, which runs from 9 to 28 September. Earlier in July, Priyanka Chaturvedi had criticized the BCCI for allowing former Indian cricketers to play Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends (WCL), reminding the government of its proclaimed 'no‑engagement' policy with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror incident where 26 people were killed. She described that decision as reflecting 'moral bankruptcy,' despite the government's publicly rigid stance on cricketing ties with Pakistan. That planned match between India Champions and Pakistan Champions in the WCL was later canceled after Indian players refused to participate.
