Kumar posted on his social media account X that Emergency was imposed by the then Congress government. He said freedom of expression was banned during the Emergency, he said, adding that it was Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan, popular as JP, who stood against the dictatorial decision and began a movement against the Emergency.
Kumar said he, too, participated in the movement along with several of his colleagues and actively opposed the Emergency.
Kumar said he along with others were put in the jail for raising voice against dictatorship. He said the people of the country remained united against the Emergency and showed courage.
Describing the people's voice as the core of democracy, Kumar said protecting it in every situation was the major responsibility of the leaders and activists. Protecting the spirit of the Constitution, Bihar has always made social justice as the path of its development.
Kumar exhorted the people to always remain vigilant and ready to protect the ideals of the Constitution.

She has nominated historian Dr Meenakshi Jain, lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, and Kerala-based teacher, social worker C. Sadanandan Master, and seasoned diplomat Harsh Vardhan Shringla. According to an official Gazette notification, the new nominations have been made to replace members who have retired. Advertisement === The President of India used her powers to nominate individuals as Rajya Sabha members under Article 80(1)(a) of the Constitution. This section of the Indian constitution authorises the President to nominate members possessing special knowledge or immense practical knowledge in literature, science, art and social service. Among the nominated members, Ujjwal Nikam is the most prominent face. The public prosecutor is known for his role as Special Public Prosecutor in the Mumbai terror attacks (26/11) trial. In last year's Lok Sabha election, he was given a ticket by the BJP from the Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency. However, he was defeated by Congress's Varsha Gaikwad. President Droupadi Murmu nominated four prominent leaders to the Rajya Sabha on Saturday, July 12. One of them is Advocate and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ujjwal Deorao Nikam. Ujjwal Deorao Nikam is a public prosecutor known for handling high-profile criminal cases. He hails from Maharashtra's Jalgaon. One of the key cases he handled as the Special Public Prosecutor was the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack trial. The celebrated lawyer had represented Maharashtra and lead the prosecution against terrorist Ajmal Kasab. The 1991 Bombay bomb blasts case, the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, and the 2003 Gateway of India bombings are among other terror-related cases where he represented Maharashtra. Nikam also argued in major cases such as the Gulshan Kumar murder case and the murder trial of BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, News 18 reported. In his decades-long career, Nikam worked under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, the Hindu reported. Nikam has also received several awards for his contribution to the legal field. In 2016, the Government of India awarded him the prestigious Padma Shri. Ujjwal Nikam is also a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader. He lost Maharashtra's Mumbai North Central seat in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Bonalu festivities begin at Ujjaini Mahankali temple in Secunderabad with grand devotion and tight security
Hyderabad, July 13 (UNI) The vibrant and sacred Ujjaini Mahankali Ammavari Bonalu celebrations commenced with much fervour in Secunderabad today. The temple, steeped in tradition and faith, has been beautifully decorated, drawing large crowds of devotees chanting hymns in reverence to the goddess. On behalf of the Telangana Government, Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and his wife offered the first Bonam to the deity and performed special pujas, marking the ceremonial start of the festivities. Thousands of devotees throng the Ujjaini Mahankali temple to offer Bonalu, creating a festive atmosphere in and around the temple premises. To ensure smooth darshan and crowd management, six queue lines have been set up, along with two separate lines for Bonam offerings. Devotees participating in the Shivasattu rituals have been granted special access between 1300 hours and 1500 hours, from RP Road and the Bata showroom. Elaborate arrangements have been made by local authorities to facilitate the celebrations. Multiple parking zones have been arranged along key routes leading to the temple. The Lashkar administration and Hyderabad City Police have ensured that all facilities are in place to maintain a peaceful and safe atmosphere for the devotees. In view of the heavy turnout and presence of dignitaries, tight security arrangements have been enforced. Over 2,500 police personnel have been deployed, including Law and Order units, She Teams, and the Task Force. Additionally, 200 CCTV cameras have been installed across the temple premises and surrounding areas to monitor the situation in real-time. Adding to the spiritual grandeur, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is scheduled to visit the Ujjaini Mahankali temple today, accompanied by several ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and VIPs.
