Pune ‘drug party' raid: CM Fadnavis' first reaction as ex-minister Eknath Khadse's son-in-law among 7 held
According to a PTI report, police arrested seven persons after busting a "drug party" following a raid at an apartment in Pune early on Sunday and seized narcotics, hookah set ups and liquor, officials said.
Pranjal Khewalkar, the husband of former Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse's daughter Rohini Khadse, was among those arrested, they said. Rohini Khadse is state president of the women's wing of the opposition NCP (SP).
Reacting to the arrest, CM Fadnavis said, 'Even I saw it only in the media. I've been attending programmes since morning, so I haven't received an actual briefing on it yet. Based on what is being shown in the media, the police have busted a rave party, and some people have been found there. Drugs were reportedly found.'
'Once I receive a proper briefing, I will be able to comment on it. Prima facie, it appears that a crime has taken place at that location,' the CM was quoted by ANI as saying.
The police's Crime Branch carried out the raid at the studio apartment located in the upscale Kharadi area of Maharashtra's Pune city based on a tip-off about a rave party, an official told PTI.
The raid was conducted around 3.30 am on Sunday and a 'drug party' was busted at the studio apartment, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nikhil Pingle said at a press conference in Pune.
During the raid and subsequent search, police seized 2.7 grams of cocaine-like substance, 70 gm of a ganja-like substance, a hookah pot, various hookah flavours, and liquor, and beer bottles, Pingle said.
"We have arrested seven individuals, identified as Pranjal Khewalkar, Nikhil Poptani, Sameer Sayyad, Shripad Yadav, Sachin Bhombe, Isha Singh and Prachi Sharma, under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act," he said.
All the accused were sent for medical examination and their reports are awaited, the official said.
Reacting to the raid, Eknath Khadse said it should be probed if there was a political motive behind the police action. Shiv Sena (UBT) deputy leader Sushma Andhare said the raid is a message for those speaking against the government.

The three women were neither beaten nor abused." Police then started investigating the matter and tracking her movement which first took them to the Yerawada and Vishrantwadi areas in Pune on July 24, but the search did not yield any result, inspector Krishna Shinde of Satara area police said. The Sambhajinagar crime branch then joined the area police in the search and based on fresh inputs about the missing woman's possible whereabouts, a police team on Aug 1 reached the house of two women at Kharadi in Pune with whom she was in touch before going missing. These women told police that the woman they were looking for was staying with her two friends in a private working women's hostel at Kothrud in Pune. "The teams then approached the Kothrud police station, made a station diary entry and, with their assistance, reached the hostel to seek information about the woman's whereabouts from her two friends," Shinde said. "The teams learnt from the two friends that the woman had shifted to a shelter home in Mundhwa," he added. Savita Bhore, the shelter home in-charge, verified the missing woman's documents and then brought her before the police team, which was accompanied by her family members. The woman then told police that she did not want to return to her marital home as she was facing harassment at the hands of her in-laws. Police recorded her statement along with those of her in-laws before returning to Sambhajinagar, the officer said.

Ayodhya District Magistrate Nikhil Tikaram Funde, exercising powers under BNSS Section 163, declared the ban at a joint press conference with Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover on Monday. "Suspicious drone activity has been reported from several districts, which could potentially aid criminal acts or trigger panic," the DM said, adding that only police and authorised security agencies will be exempt from the order. Private individuals and organisations must obtain prior written permission to fly drones. The order in Ayodhya follows a high-level videoconference chaired by Chief Minister Adityanath on Sunday, where he instructed district magistrates and police officials to strictly monitor drone activity in light of 17 FIRs and 29 arrests linked to drone-related rumours. The chief minister warned that unauthorised drone usage could result in action under the Gangsters Act, and, if necessary, even the National Security Act . "Any attempt to spread fear or misinformation using drones will not be tolerated. He added that at least 20 people have been arrested from different police station areas and security has been increased in 177 sensitive villages. In Mathura, Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar issued a public appeal urging residents to inform local police stations before flying drones. "People should avoid believing or spreading rumours and must not circulate unverified videos or posts on social media. Action will be taken against anyone found guilty of doing so," Kumar said, adding that while no drone-related incident has occurred in Mathura so far, caution is being exercised. In Bijnor, District Magistrate Jasjit Kaur confirmed a ban on unauthorised drone flights in response to rising rumours and public fear. "Now, for weddings or other events, prior permission will be required for drone use," she said. SP Abhishek Jha added that incidents involving toy helicopters mistaken for drones had led to unnecessary panic, and two people have been booked under BNSS Section 170 for flying such objects at night.
