13k challans issued in a month for traffic violations
DCP Arvind Tiwari
said that between March 27 and April 21, a comprehensive traffic awareness campaign was launched, aiming to ensure smoother, safer, and more pleasant travel for city residents. As part of this effort, officers regularly visited various intersections, providing daily instructions to on-duty personnel to improve traffic regulation.
In the past few weeks, a total of 13,054 challans were issued. These include 3,490 cases of vehicles with either no number plates or stylized ones, 199 for using modified silencers, 40 for unauthorized use of sirens, 817 for wrong-side driving, 521 for triple riding on two-wheelers, 1,492 for red-light violations, and 717 for vehicles with black films on their windows. Additionally, 6 challans were issued for unauthorized emergency lights, and 5,459 for violations under other sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
During the campaign, traffic police used microphones at intersections to make public announcements, urging drivers to follow traffic rules. Volunteers, referred to as "traffic management friends," were also seen assisting on the roads. Many citizens responded positively to the campaign, adhering to the rules more responsibly.
The DCP said that they also acknowledged compliant drivers with tokens of appreciation such as flowers and chocolates, encouraging a culture of
road safety
. The traffic police also focused on vehicles with illegal black films on their windows. This practice, which goes against the Motor Vehicles Act and Supreme Court directives, led to 535 additional challans being issued. Authorities have appealed to the public to refrain from applying any such films and to strictly adhere to traffic rules for everyone's safety.

Supreme Court Relief To Actor Shreyas Talpade In Multi-Crore Chit Fund Scam Case
New Delhi: The Supreme Court, in an interim order passed on Monday, granted protection from arrest to Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade, following multiple FIRs filed against him in different states for allegedly duping people of crores through a chit fund scheme. A Bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and KV Viswanathan issued notices to the states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, as well as to the Centre and posted the writ petition filed by Shreyas Talpade - seeking direction to club multiple FIRs and transfer of the investigation to Lucknow- for further hearing on August 29. In the meantime, the Justice Nagarathna-led Bench ordered that no coercive steps would be taken against the petitioner in connection with the alleged fraud cases. Shreyas Talpade and other accused were allegedly running a company named 'The Loni Urban Multistate Credit and Thrift Cooperative Society Limited,' which promised villagers lucrative returns on their investments. Agents of the company lured hundreds of people by assuring them that their money would double in a short span. However, after collecting crores from unsuspecting villagers, the company reportedly shut down operations and fled. The fraudulent scheme had been operational in Mahoba for the past 10 years before coming under legal scrutiny. In February this year, an FIR was registered against Shreyas Talpade and actor Alok Nath in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly duping investors of over Rs 9 crore. Alok Nath and Shreyas Talpade, along with five members of a credit cooperative society, were booked in a fraud case at Gomti Nagar Police Station in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Previously, they, along with 11 others, were implicated in a similar case in Sonipat, Haryana, connected to a multi-level marketing fraud. The controversy centres around a cooperative society that had been soliciting investments for six years, assuring high returns. Reportedly, Alok Nath and Shreyas Talpade had promoted the investment schemes of the society, lending credibility to the fraudulent operation.

"We Don't Watch News, YouTube Interviews": Chief Justice On Probe Agency Remark
New Delhi: In response to a remark asking the Supreme Court not to be swayed by the "narratives" against the central probe agency, Enforcement Directorate, Chief Justice B R Gavai on Monday said, "We do not watch news and watch YouTube interviews". A bench of CJI Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran was hearing a suo motu case over the ED summoning senior lawyers Arvind Datar and Pratap Venugopal for rendering legal opinions to their respective clients. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, shared concerns and said the issue had been taken up at the highest level and the probe agency asked to not issue notices to the lawyers for rendering legal advice. Mr Mehta, however, pointed out attempts to malign institutions by creating false narratives. "As far as general observations are concerned, sometimes misconstrued, depending upon individual cases. I am saying this, not the ED, there is a concerted effort to create a narrative against an institution. My lords may find in a few cases where there is overstepping...," the solicitor general said. "We are finding this (overstepping by ED) in many cases, it is not like we are not finding," the CJI said. CJI Gavai, who was indisposed a week ago, added, "We don't watch the news; haven't seen YouTube interviews. Only last week I managed to watch a few movies."
