'Superman' poised to return to screens
A relative newcomer, Corenswet follows in the footsteps of Christopher Reeve and, more recently, Henry Cavill, taking over the role of Clark Kent and Superman in the reboot film, which was launched with a red-carpet fan event in London on Wednesday.
"When the cape gets on, it really ties the whole thing together. You walk out with it flowing behind you, you feel like, 'Yeah, I'm all right, I'll do okay'," Corenswet said on the red carpet. His acting credits include TV series The Politician and Hollywood, and films Twisters and Pearl.
Superman offers the first look at director James Gunn's vision for the remake of the DC Universe (DCU) at Warner Bros.
The Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker, who also wrote the Superman screenplay, said he wanted to combine elements from the comic books and the mythos of Superman in cinema.
"My Superman is about, you know, in a world where there's so much meanness and so many petty things happening, Superman, who can often be seen as old-fashioned or too earnest, too kind, he is those things. I think that's the most rebellious thing that you can be in this day and age," Gunn said.
"It's a movie about kindness. But it's all told in this universe with giant monsters and flying dogs and robots and space battles and everything else."
The Marvelous Mrs Maisel actor Rachel Brosnahan takes on the role of Lois Lane, and Nosferatu, About a Boy and X-Men franchise actor Nicholas Hoult stars as Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor.
Hoult also drew inspiration from comic books for his portrayal of the iconic villain. "For instance, reading All-Star Superman, Lex really prides himself on being the peak alpha human, and so I really wanted to bring that kind of energy," Hoult said.
Brosnahan said her predecessors in the role had set the bar high. Gunn's vision for the film was what set it apart from previous films, she said.
"I think James's knowledge of and love for these characters and the different adventures that he's taking them on with the different friends he's taking them with, kind of inherently brings it into the present day," said Brosnahan.
Superman begins its global cinematic rollout on July 9.

BTS announce tour, promise album
K-pop supergroup BTS will head to the United States this month to start working on new music and will launch its next album early next year ahead of a world tour, it said on Tuesday, as per Reuters. The seven members of South Korea's most lucrative group made the announcement during a livestream on Weverse, a superfan platform owned by HYBE, an entertainment firm that manages BTS. "Hey guys, we are back," BTS member Jimin said in the 30-minute livestream. HYBE said it attracted more than 7.3 million real-time views and that the world tour would be BTS' first in approximately four years. "Starting in July — we're planning to make something massive, so from then (this month), we'll probably gather together and stay focused on making music," said band leader RM. "Our group album is officially set to be released next spring," RM added during a live chat. "Starting next spring, we'll of course be going on tour, so please look forward to seeing us all around the globe," he added. The upcoming album, which BTS will produce in the United States and other countries, will be the band's first full-length album since 2020, BTS leader, RM, said. As per the Guardian, if released in the spring of 2026, the BTS comeback album would be its first in four years since Proof, which was the best-selling album of 2022 in South Korea, with nearly 3.5 million copies sold. The band made its debut on June 13, 2013, and spearheaded a global K-pop craze with lyrics and social campaigns aimed at empowering youngsters. BTS had been on a break since 2022 as its members undertook the mandatory service required of all South Korean men under 30 due to tensions with the nuclear-armed North. SUGA, the last BTS member to complete his military service, was discharged on June 21, paving the way for the band's reunion.

Elba, Cena clash as world leaders in 'Heads of State'
Actors John Cena and Idris Elba embark on a wild friendship journey in the comedy action adventure Heads of State, reported Reuters. The Prime Video film imagines Cena, 48, as a Hollywood action hero turned US President Will Derringer and Elba, 52, as army veteran and cranky UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke. The two "have a not-so-friendly and very public rivalry that jeopardises their countries' 'special relationship,' " a synopsis reads. "But when they become the targets of a powerful and ruthless foreign adversary — who proves more than a match for the two leaders' security forces — they are begrudgingly forced to rely on the only two people they can trust: each other." Cena and Elba, who also executive produced the movie, previously worked together on the 2021 superhero film The Suicide Squad. "Honestly, our time on screen is effortless. He brings the best out of me and, in his words, I try to do my best to provide an environment where he can shine," Cena said at the film's London premiere on Tuesday. "I love the friendship nature of this film," he added. The film is directed by Russian filmmaker and musician Ilya Naishuller, who said Cena and Elba brought a realness to their roles. "They feed off each other as any good couple would, and they know how to argue together in such a way where this is the perfect combination of the American happy-go-lucky, optimistic president and the prime minister who is real about the job and how difficult it is," Naishuller said, adding he set out to make a summer blockbuster in the vein of the buddy action comedies of the 1980s and '90s. "The goal was, I want to do an hour and 45 of the highest quality entertainment I can do and just do a crowd-pleaser and make sure that the people sitting at home on July the 4th are going to be united and having a great time," he said. Heads of State also stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the role of the pun-loving top MI6 agent Noel Bisset. "It was really different, because it was a comedy. Most of the action I've done has been in drama and thrillers," Chopra Jonas said. "I love my puns," she added. "I mean, listen, I love a good pun. You've got to be smart to be punny." Heads of State started streaming on Prime Video on July 2.
