Don't celebrate too much, Fenerbahce boss Mourinho tells Rangers
(Reuters) - Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho told Rangers not to celebrate too much and that their Europa League round of 16 tie is far from over despite the Scottish side winning 3-1 in the first leg in Istanbul on Thursday.
Rangers put themselves in the driving seat for a spot in the quarter-finals thanks to an early goal by Cyriel Dessers and a Vaclav Cerny double, while Alexander Djiku scored for Fenerbahce. Dessers also had two goals disallowed for offside.
Mourinho was far from pleased with Fenerbahce's performance, saying they could have lost by more, but was adamant his side could mount a comeback in Glasgow next Thursday.
"I think it's not fair to say we were very bad in defence, because we were very bad everywhere," the Portuguese manager told reporters.
"Maybe you laugh, but for me it was a good result, because the way we performed the result could be bigger than this.
"But if somebody later wants to ask me do I think it's over, no, I don't think it's over. There is 90 or 120 minutes to play. It's the only positive thing. And from this game, I don't take any positives. Everything went wrong.
"The only thing I tell them (Rangers) is, don't celebrate too much because there is a second match. It's my only advice."
Rangers interim manager Barry Ferguson, who has been appointed until the end of the season to replace Belgian Philippe Clement, was keeping his feet on the ground.
"There's no way that the tie is over. It was a great result for us tonight but it's only half time," the former Rangers captain said.
"He (Mourinho) has got players that are really dangerous and can really affect games so there's no way that we think we're in the last eight. I would be an absolute idiot if I thought that because as I said, I've got respect."

"A shout-out to Jamal Musiala, who suffered a serious injury, it's something you do not want to see on the field," PSG defender Marquinhos told DAZN. "It's important we talk about Jamal Musiala," said Achraf Hakimi. "I want to give my support to him. We hope to see him back on the pitch soon." Liverpool players join family of Diogo Jota and his brother for funeral held in Portugal - World
Liverpool players joined family and friends for the funeral of their teammate Diogo Jota and his brother on Saturday, two days after the siblings died in a car crash in Spain. The service will be held at Igreja Matriz church in the Portuguese town of Gondomar, where Jota had a home. Portugal's national team coach Roberto Martínez and several top Portuguese players also attended, including Manchester City duo Bernardo Silva and Rúben Dias and Manchester United's Bruno Fernándes. Jota, 28, and his brother, André Silva, 25, were found dead near Zamora in northwestern Spain early Thursday after the Lamborghini they were driving crashed on an isolated stretch of highway just after midnight on Thursday and burst into flames. The brothers were reportedly heading to catch a boat from northern Spain to go to England where Jota was to rejoin with Liverpool after a summer break. Spanish police are investigating the cause of the crash, which did not involve another vehicle, they said. They said they believe it could have been caused by a blown tire. Their bodies were repatriated to Portugal after being identified by the family. A wake was held for them on Friday. Jota's death occurred two weeks after he married long-time partner Rute Cardoso while on vacation from a long season where he helped Liverpool win the Premier League. The couple had three children, the youngest born last year. Jota was born in Porto but started his playing career as a child on nearby Gondomar. Silva played for Portuguese club Penafiel in the lower divisions. Their loss led to an outpouring of condolences from the soccer world and Portuguese officials. Brazil starlet Estevao 'ready' for Chelsea move: Palmeiras coach
Estevao, 18, scored a fantastic equaliser in the Club World Cup quarter-final between the teams in Philadelphia but could not prevent Chelsea claiming a 2-1 win thanks to a late own-goal. He will now complete a move to the London club, finally heading to England just over a year after Chelsea agreed to pay Palmeiras a reported 57 million euros ($67.1m), including bonuses, for him. "I don't have sons, I have two daughters, but he is my son," Ferreira said after the match at Lincoln Financial Field, adding that he had exchanged words with Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca about Estevao. "I spoke before with Maresca. He is a nice coach, and I told him that they bought an amazing player but more than this they bought an amazing person. "He is an amazing player and I said that they need to take care of him and embrace him because for sure in the beginning he will make mistakes, but you saw today that he is a player with a lot of skills who can win a game on his own. He has that capacity." Estevao was named the best player in the Brazilian league last year and has shown plenty of glimpses of his potential at the Club World Cup.
