Patrick Mahomes reveals advice Tom Brady gave him after Super Bowl nightmare

Daily Mail2 days ago
Patrick Mahomes has opened up on the priceless advice he received from Tom Brady on the back of his miserable performance at Super Bowl LIX earlier this year.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback endured a nightmare outing in their crushing defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, a result which ended their hopes of pulling off a historic three-peat.
In a rare off-night on the big stage, Mahomes, 29, threw two costly interceptions for the Chiefs - one of which was returned for a touchdown - and was sacked a total of six times as the Eagles ran out 40-22 winners.
And almost five months on from that disastrous showing he has revealed Brady was recently on hand with some words of wisdom in the offseason.
'I've talked to Tom a good amount this offseason, and it's cool that he wants to give me advice,' Mahomes said in an interview with Kay Adams for her 'Up & Adams Show'.
'He doesn't have to be like that, he's such a good dude and I have so much respect for him and I'll take any advice he gives me.'

While he didn't go into specific details on any tactical advice he received, Mahomes explained how Brady urged him to continue being 'authentic'.
'He always talks about being yourself,' he continued about the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback. 'Guys can spot when you're not authentic and you're not putting in the work.
'That's something that he did every single day. That's why guys respected him so much.'
Mahomes has drawn frequent comparisons with Brady in recent years after inspiring Kansas City to three Super Bowl triumphs in the past six seasons. With him at quarterback, the Chiefs have only missed out on an appearance in football's end-of-season showpiece once since 2020.
He still needs to win another four rings to match the New England Patriots legend's record tally, yet the man himself recently tipped him to go on and do so.
When asked by comedian Kevin Hart which current quarterback could duplicate his success, Brady said last month: 'I just think Patrick - I love his mentality.
'The great players that I've played with, Patrick has their mentality. He has the will to win. He's got a desire every time he takes the field to be a great leader.
'I listen to what guys say after they win, I listen to what guys say after they lose. Everything he says is the right thing.'
'Having Tom, a guy like that say that, just motivates me even more,' Mahomes said to Adams about that praise from Brady.

BREAKING NEWS $90m Yankees star DJ LeMahieu left furious as he is ousted from the team after struggling with the 'physical demands' of MLB

Veteran Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu looks set to leave New York after being designated for assignment in a stunning decision by the team. LeMahieu, 36, has struggled with injuries over the past few seasons in the wake of signing a huge $90million, six-year contract in the Covid-affected 2020 season. And now it looks as though he won't play another game for the team after Aaron Boone and GM Brian Cashman ousted him from the team on Wednesday, calling up Jorbit Vivas in his place. The Yanks now have seven days to either trade him or place him on outright or unconditional release waivers, a decision that is complicated by his huge wages - he is due $15m this season. It is expected that the Yankees will lose around $22m on LeMahieu's contract after making the decision to designate him for assignment. In a bombshell tweet from Yankees reporter Brian Hoch, it was revealed that LeMahieu had told the team he was willing to begin working at third base again, but the position had become 'too physically demanding' for him. LeMahieu, the report continues, is said to be furious with the DFA decision after lengthy discussions were held between him and the team's front office on Tuesday. It would now be a surprise to see LeMahieu ever pull on the pinstripes again, and the decision comes just a day after he was transitioned to a bench role. The infielder - who is a two-time batting champion and previous fans' favorite - is hitting just .574 OPS from 142 plate appearances this season, and has seemed a shadow of his former self. Back in 2020, he became the first player in modern history to win the battling title in both the American and National Leagues, first with the Rockies in 2016 and then with the Yankees in 2020.

Dave Portnoy issues ultimate snub to Indiana Fever after humiliating defeat on Caitlin Clark's return

Barstool boss Dave Portnoy issued the ultimate snub to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever during the phenom's return to action - it was the first game for the franchise he has ever turned off. The Fever looked miserable in their best player's return to the court, in a 80-61 loss to the Golden State Valkyries. Clark started in her return after five games out with a groin injury - scoring 10 points in 25 minutes of action. Portnoy first posted to X that the game was 'DISGUSTING' before admitting to turning off the game because 'it was so pathetic.' Before the contest, Portnoy was pumped for Clark's return and promoted a parlay bet of her returning to top form against the Valkyries. Portnoy believed the point guard would have 20+ points, 10+ assists, 5+ rebounds, and 4+ 3-pointers - with half of those coming true, at +1000 odds. Portnoy has been a staunch supporter of Clark and the Fever, with him wearing her full jersey to a game earlier this year. During that same game, Portnoy bet $25k on Clark having a triple-double in her season debut, with odds of +1300, a bet that hit, profiting the Barstool boss $350k. Clark's first game since mid-June was a whimper in front of a national audience in the Wednesday matinee. The Fever dropped to 9-10 with the loss, clinging to a playoff spot in the WNBA standings, with the Valkyries staying one spot ahead of Indiana at 10-9 overall. Clark and the Fever hope to win back Portnoy and get back on the right track overall on Friday night with a home game against the Atlanta Dream.

Chiefs GM reignites Travis Kelce retirement fears with hard truth

Chiefs GM Brett Veach has reignited fan fears that Travis Kelce could soon retire. The tight end teased the possibility of ending his career following the loss in the Super Bowl and admitted the grind of NFL life had driven him 'crazy' last season. However, to the joy of Chiefs fans, it was later confirmed that the 35-year-old would return for a 13th season. He revealed that he'll deal with the 2026 season later 'down the road' but now fans are fearing that Kelce could be ready to hang up his cleats after Veach's comments. Speaking ESPN, Veach said: 'We've all seen it over the last few years. There are periods throughout the season where you're like, 'This might be it.' 'But when the games are the most important and the lights are the brightest, he finds it somewhere.' Veach opened up on the possibility of Kelce retiring during a recent interview with ESPN Kelce signed a two-year, $34.25million contract - with $17m guaranteed - back in April 2024. There is still one year left on that deal in Kansas City, where Kelce has played his entire career since being selected in the third round of the 2013 draft. The 35-year-old is already a three-time Super Bowl champion but the Chiefs failed in their bid for a historic three-peat. Reflecting on Kelce's career success, Veach said: 'The great ones know how to find it. They know where it's buried, and they know how to access it. 'And they can't access it at that age week in and week out, but when they need it, they know how to find it.' While Kelce is a fan favorite among Chiefs fans - and Swifties across the globe - the stats show that the tight end is on the decline. His 823 yards recorded last season is the lowest in his career, for a full season, and in the recent Super Bowl he managed four receptions for 39 yards as the Chiefs were humiliated. The 35-year-old has, however, been enjoying his offseason alongside girlfriend Taylor Swift and recently attended an event together for the first time as a couple. At the Tight End University event, Swift and Kelce were clearly locked in on each other, including sharing some PDA in front of cameras. Swift has attended 23 NFL games since she started dating Kelce, all while having touring commitments. That number should skyrocket as Kelce's time in the NFL may be dwindling with the 'Anti-Hero' singer on his arm.
