Chiefs GM reignites Travis Kelce retirement fears with hard truth
The tight end teased the possibility of ending his career following the loss in the Super Bowl and admitted the grind of NFL life had driven him 'crazy' last season.
However, to the joy of Chiefs fans, it was later confirmed that the 35-year-old would return for a 13th season.
He revealed that he'll deal with the 2026 season later 'down the road' but now fans are fearing that Kelce could be ready to hang up his cleats after Veach's comments.
Speaking ESPN, Veach said: 'We've all seen it over the last few years. There are periods throughout the season where you're like, 'This might be it.'
'But when the games are the most important and the lights are the brightest, he finds it somewhere.'
Veach opened up on the possibility of Kelce retiring during a recent interview with ESPN
Kelce signed a two-year, $34.25million contract - with $17m guaranteed - back in April 2024.
There is still one year left on that deal in Kansas City, where Kelce has played his entire career since being selected in the third round of the 2013 draft.
The 35-year-old is already a three-time Super Bowl champion but the Chiefs failed in their bid for a historic three-peat.
Reflecting on Kelce's career success, Veach said: 'The great ones know how to find it. They know where it's buried, and they know how to access it.
'And they can't access it at that age week in and week out, but when they need it, they know how to find it.'
While Kelce is a fan favorite among Chiefs fans - and Swifties across the globe - the stats show that the tight end is on the decline.
His 823 yards recorded last season is the lowest in his career, for a full season, and in the recent Super Bowl he managed four receptions for 39 yards as the Chiefs were humiliated.
The 35-year-old has, however, been enjoying his offseason alongside girlfriend Taylor Swift and recently attended an event together for the first time as a couple.
At the Tight End University event, Swift and Kelce were clearly locked in on each other, including sharing some PDA in front of cameras.
Swift has attended 23 NFL games since she started dating Kelce, all while having touring commitments.
That number should skyrocket as Kelce's time in the NFL may be dwindling with the 'Anti-Hero' singer on his arm.

The summer transfer window rolls on as Premier League clubs and those around Europe look to add to their squads. Arsenal 's negotiations for Sporting 's Viktor Gyokeres have stalled over a difference in overall value and terms. The Premier League club's stance is to offer €65m, with potential performance-related add-ons of €5m and €10m. Arsenal and Gyokeres had reached agreement on personal terms and director Andrea Berta has flown to Lisbon to try and get things over the line. They finally completed the Martin Zubimendi deal, a medical is planned for incoming Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard and they have their sights on Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, although face competition from Tottenham – who have had a bid for Mohammed Kudus rejected by West Ham. Manchester United secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m early in this window and have now nabbed teenage Paraguayan defender Diego Leon. They have re-opened negotiations with Brentford about Bryan Mbeumo, while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho face exits from the club. Elsewhere, Chelsea have signed Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in a £55m deal for the former England Under-21 winger. The Blues have confirmed to signing of Brighton's Brazil forward Joao Pedro. The Mirror claims that the Italian side would hope to sign the player for £45m, which would appear a respectable fee for a player than is keen to leave Old Trafford. And with Bryan Mbeumo poised to join the Red Devils, Garnacho's exit could facilitate that move and more to strengthen Ruben Amorim's squad. Several clubs in Europe are interested in both players, with PSV likely holding out for £30m for Bakayoko, while Lyon could be forced into selling Fofana for a cut price after their recent financial perils - The Independent' s Miguel Delaney reported last week that a bidding war may be brewing for him. The Frenchman, who spent four seasons in Germany with RB Leipzig before his switch to London, appears out of favour under Enzo Maresca after the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. Harry Latham-Coyle9 July 2025 22:00 How Kyle Walker and Burnley can make unlikely marriage a success It was, Kyle Walker said, 'an opportunity I jumped at'. Two years ago, the scramble for his services was between Manchester City and Bayern Munich, a contest that meant a 33-year-old got a three-year deal. And so, had everything gone to either of his plans, he would now be planning for a final season at either the Etihad Stadium or the Allianz Arena. Instead, the opportunity he grasped was to go to Burnley. One interpretation is to say that it is a sign of how far and how fast the mighty have fallen: a year ago, Walker played in the final of Euro 2024 and was (somehow) named in the team of the tournament. This season, he may have thought, would have ended with him captaining City to the Premier League or Champions League titles; perhaps even the Club World Cup. Rather than the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, however, Walker is at the homelier confines of Turf Moor. He was not even named in the City squad that Pep Guardiola took to the United States. How Kyle Walker and Burnley can make unlikely marriage a success Perhaps the Premier League's greatest ever right-back, Walker would not have expected to end up at Turf Moor a year ago but may prove a shrewd signing by Scott Parker Richard Jolly9 July 2025 21:00 Tottenham agree £55m fee with West Ham to sign Mohammed Kudus Tottenham have agreed a £55m fee with West Ham over the signing of forward Mohammed Kudus. Kudus, 24, is now set to leave the London Stadium after two years at the club, with a medical in the pipeline ahead of penning a long-term deal. Spurs reportedly had an initial £50m bid rejected from the Hammers but were able to find an agreement in the days that followed. Kudus has an £85m release clause in his contract but West Ham have agreed to let him go for less, with the Ghana international goalscoring exploits dropping off slightly last term when compared to his debut season. Jon Jones leaves UFC fans in a tizzy three-word U-turn after Dana White's lying claim over Tom Aspinall fight
JON JONES has left UFC fans in a tizzy following an apparent U-turn on a fight with Tom Aspinall. The former pound-for-pound king walked away from the biggest payday of his career and a historic heavyweight title unification bout with the Brit last month when he announced his retirement. 6 6 6 Jones ' retirement, however, lasted less than two weeks as he has re-entered the UFC 's drug testing pool. And he's seemingly now entertaining the prospect of fighting Aspinall, which he repeatedly poo-pooed ever since the Brit became the interim king of the heavyweights in November 2023. After seeing an AI-mocked-up photo of himself on the cage and a fallen Aspinall on the octagon canvas at Donald Trump 's proposed UFC White House card, Jones commented: "I like this." Jones' comment sent MMA fans into a frenzy, with one saying: "He don't want to fight, [he] just likes the attention." Another said: "Nobody cares anymore, you refused to fight. Enjoy your retirement." And another said: "This fool has wasted enough of everyone's [time]. Ignore him." One remarked: "This man is relentless in pushing the limits of delusion lol." Another chimed in: "That's cool, he can troll as much as he wants WITHOUT the belt." JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS 6 Jones' vacating of the heavyweight title and subsequent retirement led to Wigan warrior Aspinall being elevated from interim to undisputed champion. In the immediate aftermath of Jones' retirement, UFC supremo Dana White doubled down on claims that the Hall of Famer "agreed" to fight Aspinall. Tom Aspinall Fires Not So Subtle Dig At Jon Jones After UFC Retirement Jones denied that notion, insisting he retired LAST NOVEMBER after his title defence against Stipe Miocic and told the UFC brass of his decision. White hit back at that claim late last month when asked by SunSport, saying: "That's not true. "I'm telling you the truth. Believe who you want to believe." 6 6 Just hours after Jones' hanging up of the gloves, it emerged that the former two-division champion had been charged with fleeing the scene of an accident in New Mexico in February. An "intoxicated" woman, who was "lacking clothing from the waist down", found at the scene claimed Jones was the driver of the vehicle. Jones, who allegedly alluded to threats of violence while on the phone to police at the scene, has vehemently denied the allegation and insisted the woman found in the car drove away from his house while intoxicated.
