Two former UNC basketball standouts almost involved in blockbuster NBA trade
What if this NBA trade actually went through?
A pair of former UNC basketball standouts just missed being college teammates by one season, but both are carving themselves out solid NBA careers.
Coby White is quietly turning into one of the NBA's top young superstars, coming off his sixth professional season in which he averaged 20.4 points per game, which ranked 31st in the entire league and led the Chicago Bulls.
Cole Anthony, once a full-time starter for the Orlando Magic, established himself as one of the NBA's top sixth men in Year Five. Anthony averaged 9.4 points per game in 67 appearances (22 starts), his first campaign with starting action in two seasons, but Anthony will now try and re-crack a starting lineup with the Memphis Grizzles.
Chicago isn't quite in rebuild mode, while Orlando is one of the league's many young, promising teams. According to LockedOnBulls, the Magic wanted White as part of its young core, offering the Bulls a blockbuster deal that included Anthony, former Florida State standout Jonathan Isaac and two first-round picks.
Chicago only has one playoff victory since the 2016-2017 NBA season, but its last postseason series victory came two years prior, when Jimmy Butler and former Florida Gator Joakim Noah still played in the Windy City.
Orlando hasn't won a playoff series since its 2014-2015 run to the Eastern Conference Finals, but has four playoff victories in its past two seasons combined. The Magic's exciting, young core consists of Duke superstar Paolo Banchero, Michigan standout Franz Wagner and recently-acquired Desmond Bane.
How do you think Anthony and White's respective careers would change if this trade went through? White now has another chance to be the Bulls' featured star, while Anthony looks for a return to his new team's starting lineup.

Heat Fans Rejoice After Picking Bam Adebayo Backup in NBA Draft
Heat Fans Rejoice After Picking Bam Adebayo Backup in NBA Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Miami Heat fans are buzzing with excitement following the announcement that the team has added Oumar Ballo, a 7'0' center from Indiana, as a potential backup to star Bam Adebayo on top of Kel'el Ware. Advertisement Posted by @HeatvsHaters on X the news broke with Ballo's impressive college stats—13.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game—igniting optimism among the Heat faithful. This move signals a strategic shift from the Heat's small-ball legacy, addressing a long-standing need for size in the frontcourt. Ballo's arrival is a breath of fresh air for fans tired of seeing Adebayo play the five spot alone or in unconventional lineups. His collegiate pedigree, including a stint with the Arizona Wildcats under Tommy Lloyd and alongside Pelle Larsson and Keshad Johnson, showcases his ability to thrive under pressure—a trait that could complement Adebayo's versatility. Advertisement The undrafted Ballo's signing taps into a growing NBA trend, with experts noting just over two thirds of two-way contract signees earn roster spots within two years. Enhanced by the new CBA rule allowing three two-way slots per team, this acquisition reflects the Heat's willingness to develop raw talent. As training camp nears, Heat Nation eagerly awaits whether Ballo can solidify his role and give Adebayo the reliable backup he deserves. Heat Fans Happy After LeBron James Report
Heat Fans Happy After LeBron James Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Just when Miami Heat fans were starting to lose hope about the team making a splashy addition this offseason, a new LeBron James development has emerged. Advertisement The Heat had a brutal end to their season this year, as they became the first No. 10 seed in NBA history to make the playoffs, only to be on the wrong end of the NBA's most lopsided series in playoff history. With some star power needed, the Heat then emerged as the favorites to land Kevin Durant, giving fans optimism for next season, only to be outbid by the Houston Rockets. With pressure mounting on team president Pat Riley to make something happen, the perfect opportunity may have fallen right into his lap. According to a bombshell report by ESPN's Shams Charania, the 40-year-old four-time MVP (James) is "closely monitoring the Lakers' moves" this offseason after exercising his $52.6 million player option. James' agent, Rich Paul, told ESPN that contending for a title is James' priority at this time, but alluded to the fact that the Lakers could be building for the future after trading for Luka Doncic. Advertisement Following this report, which also revealed that James was spotted in Miami recently, Heat fans have begun hoping for a reunion. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James (23).© Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images "Going to need @kevinlove to get on the phone and tamper hard with LeBron James RIGHT NOW," wrote one fan. "This would actually be very cool," said a second. "So LeBron James say his wife and him miss Miami the City so he miss being in Miami," speculated another. While it's unclear what the Heat are willing to give up for the aging four-time MVP, he has shown that he is still among the best players in the league. This past season, he averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists, earning him a second-team All-NBA selection. James also has a no-trade clause, which means he would have to give his approval for the trade as well. Advertisement Regardless, Heat fans are on hyper alert again this offseason. In his four seasons with Miami in 2010-14, James won two titles and two MVPs.
