R Ashwin cleared from ball-tampering allegations in Tamil Nadu Premier League
The Madurai franchise had accused DD of tampering with the ball by using towels treated with chemicals during their game in Salem in the ongoing TNPL on June 14.
Siechem Madurai Panthers coach Shijit Chandran said in the complaint, originally addressed to franchise CEO Pooja Damodaran and then sent to the TNPL.
'The ball's condition deteriorated rapidly during our innings, affecting our batsmen's performance. You can hear the sound of every shot our batters played after the powerplay, which were as if they were hitting hard stone instead of a cricket ball,' Shijit Chandran said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
'We are of the view that the Dindigul Dragons team used foreign substances to alter the ball's condition, including using special towels with pre-applied roughening agent, which is unacceptable and against the spirit of the game, and amounts to cheating,' he added.
After a detailed review of the matter, TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan said no evidence of ball-tampering had been found. 'The towels in question were TNCA-issued and equally available to both teams. The Playing Control Team - including umpires and the match referee - maintained full oversight of the ball throughout the match. No concerns were raised during play, and no verifiable evidence has been provided. The claims appear speculative and post-facto in nature.'
'Should the franchise possess credible and verifiable evidence, they may submit a formal request for an Independent Commission of Enquiry by 3 PM on 17th June, along with supporting material (video, photographic, or testimonial),' he added.
Dragons had eased past Madurai in Salem on Saturday, with openers Ashwin and Shivam Singh helping them chase 151 in less than 13 overs for their second win in TNPL 2025. Ashwin's Dindigul are the defending champion, having won their first title last season. (ANI)

R Ashwin Makes Stunning Claim On Rishabh Pant's Injury: 'Sensationalising News...'
Former Indian cricket team spinner R Ashwin believes that Rishabh Pant was never doubtful for the fourth Test match against England at Old Trafford. Pant did not keep wickets for the majority of the third Test due to a finger injury and Dhruv Jurel took up the responsility in his absence. However, Pant did bat in both innings. Ashwin said that Pant is rested and he should play the Test match before adding that he believes the doubts over his fitness were a 'way of sensationalizing news'. "I don't think there were any concerns about Pant. I don't understand how it became a concern. It is just a way of sensationalizing news I feel. How much can a finger injury be if the finger is not broken? There will be a little bit impact obviously. If there would not have been a rule for a substitute keeper you would have seen Rishabh Pant keep even in the last game. It is a good thing that he rested himself and came back to bat but it was never a matter of concern. If the finger wasn't broken he was anyway going to keep in the fourth Test," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. India have suffered a number of injury concerns recently with Arshdeep Singh, Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy also out of contention. However, Ashwin said that India are superior to England skill-wise and they should not have any worries despite trailing 1-2 in the five-match series. "This England team, man to man, will not match India skills wise. Looking at how Siraj and Bumrah bowled, if you bring Anshul Kamboj in, I'm telling you that is a serious bowling attack. People will tell he hasn't played but he was there on the A tour. He's been in cracking form in first-class cricket. He is used to bowling long spells and you need that in England. He will be a really good foil for Siraj and Bumrah. Prasidh is also an option but I would rather go with Anshul," he said.

Karnataka reported a total of 39,698 known rowdies by June 2025, of which, the capital city, Bengaluru, was home to 6,249 — well over triple the count in Kalaburagi, which holds second place at 1,934, The Hindu reported. Improved police strategies helped locate over 750 'out of view' rowdies from 2023 to 2025 in Karnataka. (ANI Photo/For representation) Among the state-wide tally, 23,016 are currently labeled as active rowdies. The rest are not presently linked to fresh criminal cases. During B. Dayananda's term as police commissioner, efforts intensified to locate so-called 'out of view' (OV) rowdies, who had managed to avoid regular checks or had disappeared from ongoing surveillance. Though traditionally, those maintained on rowdy sheets are intended for constant tracking and not meant to be considered OVs, this category mainly targeted habitual thieves. Between 2023 and 2025, over 750 OV rowdies were located by Bengaluru police, marking a stronger emphasis on monitoring and crackdown efforts, the report stated. Cops also put a focus light on improved coordination between constables, sub-inspectors, and inspectors, which helped ensure real-time updates and information flow. Other preventive strategies also involved acquiring written assurances from individuals with known rowdy backgrounds.
