Queue-cutting at toll plaza leads to scuffle between Hilux, lorry drivers

KUALA LANGAT – What began as a routine evening commute turned into an unexpected altercation when a misunderstanding at the Telok Panglima Garang Toll Plaza sparked a scuffle between a four-wheel drive driver and a lorry driver, last Thursday.
Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Akmalrizal Radzi said the incident, which occurred at 6.15pm, involved two local men who were the drivers of the respective vehicles.
"Investigations found that the situation stemmed from a misunderstanding when the Hilux driver allegedly attempted to cut the queue from the left lane to access the toll plaza's cash lane," he said in a statement.
This, he said led to a minor collision between the Hilux and the lorry.
Akmalrizal said following the collision, the Hilux driver tried to engage the lorry driver in a discussion. However, the latter refused to stop and continued driving, prompting a confrontation between the two.
"A thorough investigation found no elements of serious crime and both parties have agreed to resolve the matter amicably," he said.
He said both drivers have come forward to the Kuala Langat District Police Headquarters to provide their statements regarding the incident.
The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (Rule 10 LN 166/59).
Akmalrizal also advised the public to avoid making unnecessary speculations about the incident.
He added that the situation was eventually brought under control with the help of members of the public who intervened to defuse the tension.
Earlier, a video of the altercation involving the drivers near a toll plaza in the area went viral on social media.
The incident was reportedly triggered by the collision between the two vehicles.

He said initial investigations found that the vehicles belonged to a man, and that neither he nor his family was home at the time of the incident. 'It was also found that four male suspects had set fire to the victim's cars, and police are now tracking down those involved. 'The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years,' he said in a statement today. Akmalrizal said the fire resulted in estimated losses of about RM1.6 million, including damage to the front part of the victim's house. He urged members of the public with information on the case to contact the Kuala Langat district police headquarters' operations room at 03-3187 2222. Selangor fire and rescue department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar was earlier quoted as saying that the fire had destroyed 90% of five vehicles parked in front of a Class A two-storey terrace house.
