Linfield Setanta Cup hero on how win over Shelbourne set Blues on path to dominance

Linfield legend Peter Thompson believes David Healy's boys can rewrite the record books when they face Shelbourne in the Champions League in July.
The former Blues striker is in a fair position to judge as he was a member of the team that overturned the applecart in 2005 when David Jeffrey's side travelled to Dublin to face Shels in the Setanta Cup Final.

Hayato Inamura to Celtic transfer on the brink as timeline for 'expected' Albirex Niigata arrival revealed

The Japanese youngster is reportedly on Brendan Rodgers' radar Albirex Niigata defender Hayato Inamura will complete a move to Celtic next week, according to a report. The left-sided centre back only joined Albi last summer and has made 15 league appearances in Japan's top tier, with his side currently in the midst of a relegation battle. ‌ While more midfield players are high on Brendan Rodgers ' wish list following the capture of Benjamin Nygren, Inamura, 23, is said to be a summer transfer target for the Hoops and reports in Japan claim that a deal is almost done. ‌ Sponichi state that Inamura will play his final game for his current club against Machida Zelvia on Sunday before jetting off to Europe to undergo a medical and put pen to paper at Parkhead. The left-sided defender stands at 6ft tall and is a renowned set piece specialist. Should he make the switch to Glasgow's East End then he will become the ninth Japanese export to pull on the famous green and white. Curren Celtic stars Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate have become fan's favourites since their respective arrivals in 2022 and both have been linked with big money moves elsewhere this summer. Compatriot Kyogo Furuhashi enjoyed three and a half productive seasons with the club before joining Rennes in a £10million deal last January. Tomoki Iwata left the club last summer to join Birmingham while Yosuke Ideguchi and Yuki Kobayashi were also moved on after failing to make an impact. Winger Koki Mizuno made 12 appearances for the Hoops between 2008 and 2010 and he was preceded by arguably the most celebrated Japanese player at Parkhead - Shunsuke Nakamura. ‌ After arriving from Italian side Reggina in 2005, the former midfield maestro went onto net 34 times in 166 appearances, including two memorable free-kicks in the Champions League against Manchester United. Casemiro makes final decision on Man Utd exit as Carlo Ancelotti role emerges

Casemiro has been attracting interest from Saudi Arabia for the past 18 months as United have been looking to trim their huge wage bill - but he's set to stay at Old Trafford Big-earning Brazilian midfielder Casemiro is set to stay at Manchester United next season after being offered a World Cup lifeline by Carlo Ancelotti. Casemiro, who collects a cool £350,000-a-week, was handed a shock recall by his country when his former Real Madrid boss named his first Brazil squad earlier this month. ‌ And with the 33-year-old now targeting the finals in Canada, Mexico and the United States next summer, he believes his chances of playing in a third World Cup will be enhanced by staying in the Premier League. Casemiro has been attracting interest from Saudi Arabia for the past 18 months as United have been looking to trim their huge wage bill. ‌ But he worked his way back into manager Ruben Amorim's plans towards the end of the season and was rewarded when new Brazil coach Ancelotti ended his two-year international absence by bringing him into his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay. Casemiro played the full 90 minutes in both games as Brazil collected four points to move up to third place in the South American qualifying table. Ancelotti managed Casemiro at the Bernabeu and didn't agree with the decision to sell him to United in a £70million deal three years ago. The Italian believes the five-time Champions League winner can be a big dressing room influence for him during his first crack at international management. Casemiro has one year left on his United contract, although the Reds have an option to trigger a 12-month extension. He impressed Amorim with his attitude during the final few months of a traumatic season, but United will not stand in his way if the Brazilian decided to cash in by moving to Saudi. Casemiro has continually insisted that he is happy in Manchester despite interest from Al-Nassr, the big-spending club that has just handed Cristiano Ronaldo a two-year contract worth almost £500 million. ‌ The Brazilian is a close friend of the 40-year-old Portuguese after they played together at Madrid. And he posted a picture of him wearing a pair of £7,000 LED recovery boots manufactured by a company partly owned by Ronaldo on his Instagram account during the week. United are looking for buyers for a raft of players who are surplus to requirements under Amorim as they try to raise money to finance a rebuild. ‌ Wing trio Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are all in the shop window, but the Reds' hopes that Inter Milan would follow up an enquiry for misfiring £72 million striker Rasmus Hojlund with a bid for the Danish international. Inter targeted two new strikers after finishing second in serie A and then being hammered by Paris St Germain in the Champions League final. But they have spent £20 million on Parma's Ange-Yoan Bonny and are ready to give teenager Francesco Pio Esposito more game-time after he capped a fine performance against River Plate in the Club World Cup with his first goal for the club. That would close the door on a permanent move for Hojlund, although Inter could still offer a 12-month loan option with an obligation to buy. Gittens will undergo his medical tonight on the US, before finalising a seven-year-deal until 2032, worth £50million with £5million in add-ons. Earlier this month, Dortmund turned down an offer worth £42m, and the two clubs were unable to agree a deal before the first window closed on 10 June. This eventual agreement comes amid Chelsea's search to strengthen wide areas after rejecting their obligation to buy Jadon Sancho from Manchester United. The Blues have already spent £1.4billion to assemble their current squad, but club transfer chiefs are desperate to bring their former youth star back home. Gittens, who previously had a very brief spell with Chelsea's U9s, was part of the England side that won the U19 European Championships in 2022.
