8 IPS officers in Chhattisgarh get new postings for anti-Naxal operations
Chhattisgarh government
has issued fresh postings to eight
Indian Police Service
(
IPS
) officers and deployed them on the
anti-Naxal operations
duty in the state, officials said on Wednesday.
The development comes after Akash Girepunje, the additional superintendent of police (ASP-Konta division) in
Sukma district
, lost his life in a Naxal-planted IED blast on Monday.
All the eight transferred IPS officers, belonging to the 2021 batch, were posted as city superintendents of police (CSP) in different districts, a government official said, adding the state home department issued the transfer order on Tuesday.
As per the order, Surguja CSP Rohit Kumar Shah has been posted as Additional Superintendent of Police (anti-Naxal operations) in Sukma district, and CSP Jagdalpur (Bastar district) Udit Pushkar as ASP (anti-Naxal operations) in Dantewada district.
Korba CSP Ravindra Kumar Meena and Raipur CSP Aman Kumar Raman Kumar Jha have been posted as ASPs (anti-Naxal operations) Bijapur district.

CSP Jagdalpur Akash Shrishrimal will be ASP (anti-Naxal operations) Bhanupratappur in Kanker district, it said.
CSP Civil Lines Raipur Ajay Kumar and CSP Bilaspur Akshay Pramod Sabadra have been posted as ASPs (anti-Naxal operations) in Narayanpur district.
Besides, Raigarh CSP Akash Kumar Shukla has been posted as ASP (anti-Naxal operations), Special Task Force, Baghera in Durg district.
On Monday, ASP Girepunje was killed and two other police officers were injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxalites exploded at a stone quarry near Dondra village in Sukma district.

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 2 (ANI): The Karnataka Government on Wednesday challenged the Central Administrative Tribunal's decision to revoke the suspension of senior IPS officer Vikas Kumar in connection with the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede case. Advocate General K Shashikaran Shetty mentioned the petition before a single-judge bench of Justice SG Pandit in the Karnataka High Court today. The court directed the state government to rectify the office objections. The bench said that the hearing will be held on Thursday (July 3). Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the state government is considering appealing the Central Administrative Tribunal's (CAT) decision that quashed the suspension order of senior IPS officer Vikas Kumar. Speaking to the media at Vartha Soudha, the central office of the Information and Public Relations Department, Siddaramaiah said, 'There is an opportunity to appeal the Central Administrative Tribunal's order quashing the suspension order of IPS officers in connection with the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede case and an appropriate decision will be taken in this regard.' Vikas Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police, was among the officers suspended following the stampede incident at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory parade. The CAT recently set aside the suspension, prompting the government to weigh its legal options. The incident claimed 11 lives and injured over 50 people. Meanwhile, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on Tuesday stated that it was the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who appear to be 'prima facie responsible' for the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede that claimed 11 lives and left dozens injured. The quasi-judicial body stated that RCB didn't obtain permission from the police and posted about the gathering on social media platforms, which led to the assembly of approximately three to five lakh people. It said that police were not given sufficient time to make appropriate arrangements. The Karnataka government also released Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for managing crowds efficiently to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. An official order from the office of the Director General and Inspector General of Police, Bangalore said, 'Crowd management at public events, ranging from festivals and rallies to sports celebrations, requires a strategic and well-coordinated approach. This SOP is issued to provide a standardised framework for managing crowds efficiently while ensuring public safety, protecting individual rights, and maintaining law and order.' As per the order, the objective was to establish clear guidelines for planning, deploying, and executing crowd control measures at events involving large gatherings, with an emphasis on minimising risks, enhancing coordination, and ensuring a quick response to emergencies. Gangster Salman, illegal arms supplier arrested in Rajasthan
Jaipur: Two criminals, gangster Salman Khan and his aide Rakesh Kumar, have been arrested in Rajasthan, and a huge cache of illegal arms has been seized from their possession, police said on Wednesday. In a major crackdown on organised crime and the illegal arms trade, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in collaboration with Pratapgarh Police, carried out a successful operation, resulting in the seizure of 14 illegal foreign and indigenous weapons, 1,860 cartridges, and 10 magazines. The arrest and arms seizure exposed a widespread network of illegal arms in the region. Acting on a tip-off, a special team, comprising ASI Shankar Dayal Sharma, Head Constables Suresh Kumar and Kamal Singh, and Constables Naresh Kumar, Ratiram, and Suresh Kumar (driver), was dispatched to Banswara, Pratapgarh, and Chittorgarh. The first breakthrough came on June 28 when Chhoti Sadari Police arrested Rakesh Kumar (48), a resident of Jhalawar, from the Chhoti Sadari–Neemuch road with a pistol in his possession. Rakesh was a crucial link in the arms smuggling chain, and his arrest opened up a new trail. During interrogation, Rakesh disclosed information about another major player in the crime world, Salman Khan (38), a resident of Nagda, Ujjain. Salman, already lodged in Banswara Jail for an extortion case, was taken on a production warrant by the AGTF, and his interrogation revealed startling facts. According to police, Salman's father, Sher Khan Pathan, was a cop. However, Pathan, who also indulged in criminal activities, was killed in a police encounter. Despite having 90 bighas of ancestral land, Salman chose a criminal life and indulged in land grabbing and violence under the guise of property dealing. To escape legal pressure, Salman fled to Dubai using a fake passport. Before leaving, he mortgaged his cache of illegal arms to his associate Mohammad Nawaz from Ratlam for Rs 30 lakh, intending to reclaim it after release. Based on Salman's revelations, the police recovered a significant stockpile of illegal weapons and ammunition from the Chhoti Sadari area. The cache included a 12-bore pump-action gun, a .22 bore rifle, three .22 bore revolvers, one .32 bore automatic Mauser, and eight .32 bore pistols. Additionally, ten empty magazines, two magazine fillers, and a large quantity of cartridges of various bores were also seized. Salman already has multiple criminal cases registered against him, including assault, criminal intimidation, theft, attempt to murder, extortion, Arms Act, and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act violations. Further investigation is underway to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the network.

‘Silent emergency': TN BJP on cases against Murugan devotees meet participants
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday accused the ruling DMK government of imposing a 'silent emergency' in the state, following police action against participants of the Murugan Devotees' Conference held in Madurai last month. BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad strongly condemned the filing of police cases against several leaders, including Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran, former party chief K. Annamalai, and Hindu Munnani leader Kadeswara Subramanian. The cases were registered in connection with their participation in the June 22nd devotional gathering, which saw the attendance of over 5 lakh devotees. Prasad questioned the rationale behind the police action, stating that the event was conducted in an exceptionally peaceful and disciplined manner. 'Even critics of the BJP in the media had to acknowledge the flawless organisation of the event. There were no law-and-order issues, no traffic disruptions, and no reports of public inconvenience. Devotees even cleaned the venue themselves after the event,' he said. He alleged that the DMK government had remained silent for 10 days before launching a politically motivated crackdown aimed at appeasing minority vote banks, using the pretext of 'external instigation.' Prasad said the state's law and order situation had deteriorated drastically under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's leadership. 'There is growing fear that Tamil Nadu is descending into lawlessness, where the police act like gangs of thugs. Even the DMK's own MLA, Inigo Irudayaraj, has publicly stated that 'police turned into beasts' and beat temple guard Ajithkumar to death.' The alleged custodial death of Ajithkumar in Sivaganga district has further fuelled criticism of the government. Initially, the state attempted to downplay the incident, but video footage of the police assault and scathing remarks from the Madras High Court forced a CBI inquiry. 'The DMK government's response has been mere theatrics - with a minister sent for damage control and the Chief Minister making a staged phone call to the victim's family,' said Prasad. The BJP also slammed the DMK for what it called 'anti-Hindu' actions and rhetoric. Prasad pointed to recent remarks by DMK Deputy General Secretary and former Union Minister A. Raja, who allegedly used derogatory language against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Protests against Raja erupted across the state, and during one such demonstration at Chepauk in Chennai, BJP State Vice President Narayanan Thirupathi was allegedly manhandled and arrested. The BJP also accused the police of brutality against women protestors, alleging multiple human rights violations. 'Since Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed the AIADMK-BJP alliance and visited Tamil Nadu twice, the DMK has lost its peace of mind,' said Prasad. 'Fearing defeat in the upcoming Assembly elections, the ruling party has resorted to suppressive tactics and widespread intimidation,' he added. The BJP has demanded that the state government immediately withdraw what it calls 'false cases' and restore democratic norms. 'The people of Tamil Nadu are watching. In this age of social media, truth cannot be hidden. The consequences of this authoritarianism will soon be reflected in the ballot boxes,' Prasad warned.
