Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has said she "learned a lot about grief" after the death of her mother and her "best friend" Robin Windsor.
The 48-year-old, who plays Mandy Dingle on the ITV soap, lost her mother in July 2012, just months before she joined BBC dancing show Strictly Come Dancing, where she was paired up with Windsor, who she credits with helping her through her grief.
Windsor died in February last year at the age of 44, and his cause of death was not given.
Asked about how she coped with the two deaths on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Riley said: "I've learned a lot about grief and how to deal with it, and how to be open and to literally ask for help, because it's okay.
"Sometimes people go really within, my brother's that person, we all deal with things differently, and I was pressing the bravado button going, 'I've got to go out and play Mandy Dingle every day, I've got to dress up as Mandy and be funny'.
"There were some days I didn't want to be funny, I'm lucky with the brilliant girls in my dressing room, where we lean on each other, and my work with Sue Ryder, I've realised that there is a helpline out there.

"The internet is brilliant, there are so many places you can go to, Sue Ryder being one of them for help."
Riley went on to say that the Emmerdale team were "phenomenal" following their deaths, but said she wanted to continue working.
The actress said: "Me, being me, I didn't want to be at home in my bedroom, or at home thinking about it too much, I had to carry on with my day job.
"But the make-up girls, what people at home won't know when they're watching Emmerdale is I was having my make-up done three times because I couldn't get it together, I couldn't, day in, day out, and work were brilliant, like we know, we'll write you out, we'll give you time off should you need it.
"But I wanted to do my job and keep going, because I know Robin would have wanted that, that sparkle, he wanted to keep that spark alive, and I felt I had to do that for him."
She said that when she first met Windsor and they began preparing for the BBC dancing show, she told him she wanted no-one to know her mother had died.

Riley added: "I said, 'under no circumstances can anyone in the press, anyone, know that my mum has just died', because the thought of someone picking up the phone to vote for us as a sympathy vote would break my heart, it would break my mother's heart.
"And Robin was like, 'I'm with you', he understood that, because some people would have gone, 'oh woe is me'.
"We did it because we were Lisa and Robin, the original Will and Grace, and that's what people fell in love with, they fell in love with just us two."

Benedict Cumberbatch blasts 'grossly wasteful' film industry
Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed his intense diet plan which led to over-indulgence in order to acquire his Doctor Strange physique. The aftermath left the London-born actor feeling 'horrific' as he was instructed to eat beyond his appetite. The 49-year-old Marvel star said he could have fed a family with the 'amount he was eating.' Cumberbatch recently appeared on podcast Ruthie's Table 4, where he exposed all of his eating secrets that made him Doctor Strange. Throughout the podcast, he discussed all things food, which led to him criticising the film industry for being 'grossly wasteful.' Speaking to host Ruth Rodgers, he said: 'You have someone who can prescribe you what you're eating and they can cook for you.' He went on to share the pure volume of food he was given, adding: 'We had a fantastic chef on the last Doctor Strange film. He needs to be on this many calories a day. 'He needs to have five meals, he needs to have a couple of boiled eggs between those five meals, some kind of high protein snack, cheese and crackers or almond butter and crackers, crackers, lots of crackers.' It was not all negative for Cumberbatch as he did enjoy the exercise part of his transformation and felt as if he was fueling his body properly for gruellingly long days of filming. 'For me, the exercise is great and the end result is that you feel strong and you feel confident, you hold yourself better, you have stamina through the exercise and the food that makes you last through the gig,' he added. The Sherlock Holmes star continued to speak passionately on the film industry and how it contributes to waste. He went on to say: 'It just slowly, slowly, you have to meet people where they are on these issues in filmmaking. 'So let me think about set builds that aren't recycled, think about transport, think about food, think about housing, but also light and energy.' 'The amount of wattage you need to sort of create daylight and consistent light in a studio environment. It's a lot of energy,' he added. Cumberbatch continued to speak out on behalf of actors and producers who often stay silent when it comes to speaking on global issues: 'So the first people to stick their head above the parapet to talk about anything to do with climate and excessive use of things, or hypocrisy, or systems that don't work, get slammed if they're actors, because they're ferried about.' More Trending He carried on by saying: 'It is a systemic thing, but as a producer, I'm really hot on that. 'I try to push the green initiative, the green handshake into every agreement I can.' There are two Doctor Strange films in the Marvel Universe franchise – both starring Cumberbatch post-bodybuilding. The Marvel star also starred as Sherlock in the BBC mystery crime drama series, which ran from 2010 to 2017. Got a story? EastEnders' Amy Mitchell actress reveals surprising hidden link to two co-stars
Ellie Dadd joined EastEnders three years ago, but has now revealed how she met two of her co-stars long before she joined the BBC One soap as troubled teen Amy Mitchell Since joining EastEnders three years ago, Ellie Dadd has tackled big storylines focusing on self-harm and mental health as troubled teen Amy Mitchell. Now she's ready to take a break for something more lighthearted – oh, yes she is! This Christmas, Ellie will be swapping E20 for Fairfield Halls when she plays Belle in Beauty And The Beast. And while she's still only 20, Ellie is an old hand at panto. 'I started panto when I was six,' says Ellie. 'I did it for four years, age six to 10. It was the best time ever.' She enrolled in D&B Academy of Performing Arts and met her future EastEnders co-stars Tilly Keeper (Louise Mitchell) and Zack Morris (Keegan Baker), who both joined the soap ahead of her. 'It was quite fun seeing them when I got there. I was like, 'Oh, my goodness!" This panto season, however, she will be playing the princess – something she's dreamt of since she was a young girl. "Isn't it every girl's dream to play a princess at least once in their lives?' laughs Ellie. Panto is famously gruelling, with two performances a day, and lead stars taking just Christmas Day off. But being on EastEnders has trained Ellie. EastEnders has taught me a lot,' she says. 'We film 14 scenes a day and we're there five days a week And if a scene is not going to plan, things need to change quickly. You learn to trust your instincts,' says Ellie. 'If things go wrong, you're like, OK, that's fine. We can sort it. Everybody's there for you." Just because she's taking a break to do panto, though, it doesn't mean Ellie's character Amy is off screen for long. They're just letting me have a couple of weeks off and then I'll be back,' she says. Next year, however, she might be asking bosses to write her out for a bit longer, as she dreams of following in the footsteps of fellow Walford waltzers such as Jamie Borthwick (Jay Brown), Bobby Brazier (Freddie Slater) and Molly Rainford (Anna Knight) to take on the challenge of Strictly Come Dancing. It was visiting the set to watch the live show that gave Ellie the Strictly bug. 'If I had the opportunity to do it, I'd absolutely love to do it,' says Ellie. 'I love everything. The costumes, the dancing, just being able to go up there every weekend and put your heart on the line and enjoy yourself. 'It was honestly crazy just to see how it all works, because you don't really get to see it from watching it at home.' However, Ellie admits just watching the high-energy routines left her feeling fatigued. 'I don't know how those dancers do it every week," she says, laughing. 'They must be exhausted.' Ellie was just 17 when she joined EastEnders and was soon targeted by a stalker, who was handed a nine-month suspended sentence just before Christmas 2024, plus a five-year restraining order. Despite the ordeal, Ellie insists she's coping with the rigours of fame. 'You get used to the recognition,' she smiles. 'I forget I am in a massive soap like EastEnders.' Fame might be unsettling, but Ellie feels EastEnders' high profile also means the soap can be a force for good. When Amy had a self-harm storyline, Ellie was flattered when viewers said her scenes reflected their own experiences. It's great to know that I can help a lot of people through certain situations,' says Ellie. This year the BBC soap celebrated its 40th anniversary. Ellie was thrilled to attend the 2025 British Soap Awards, where EastEnders won the coveted Best Soap category. 'It's great to dress up and go to all these events,' says Ellie. 'It's something you don't normally get to do. It's just a completely different world.' Acting is a tough industry so Ellie is grateful for every day playing Amy, but she has loftier ambitions too "I would love to be in a big movie or a big West End show, but it's such a difficult industry that you're very lucky to have any job in it. Whatever I'm in, I'm lucky because there are thousands of other people that would have fought to be in the position I'm in.'
