DMK providing aid for women, but earning back six-fold through Tasmac: BJP leader Tamilisai
Addressing reporters at the Coimbatore airport, she said that though several issues remain unaddressed in the state, Chief Minister MK Stalin has instructed his cadres to focus on increasing party membership.
Speaking about the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai, wherein Rs 1,000 is provided to women, Tamilisai said, 'The government is providing this amount, but is profiting six-fold by operating Tasmac and exploiting the public. The AIADMK has assured that they will give Rs 1,500 to each woman, and the BJP has a plan to guide women on how to save this money. Since we are allied with AIADMK, we will work to control the operation of Tasmac."
The governments in BJP-ruled states are working to eliminate liquor shops in a practical manner, she said, adding that any party wishing to join the NDA will be considered a big party.
Further, Tamilisai said Stalin ordered the resignation of five zonal chairpersons of the Madurai Corporation following allegations of a scam, which she believes is due to the 2026 Assembly election.
Tamilisai also called on the DMK and its ally Congress to respond to the remarks made by DMK MP Tiruchy Siva about former chief minister Kamaraj, saying that such comments tarnish the reputation of the great leader.

The Constitution of India's description of the Vice President as an "ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha" who 'acts as President when the latter is unable to discharge his functions due to absence, illness or any other cause', is a rather innocuous description of the persona of Jagdeep Dhankhar. Rarely, if ever, has a constitutional position been as controversial as this once-centrist politician from Rajasthan, whose surprise resignation on `health' grounds made him the first Vice President to quit for reasons other than contesting presidential polls or taking over as President after winning elections. While disagreements between the Opposition and the Vice-President in his capacity as the Rajya Sabha Chairman is commonplace in India's parliamentary politics, what Dhankhar did was to elevate this rivalry to the level of outright hostility. Elected Vice-President in August 2022, his term as the Rajya Sabha Chairman began on a controversial note during the Winter Session that year as he called the Supreme Court's 2015 judgment striking down the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act a 'glaring instance' of 'severe compromise' of parliamentary sovereignty and disregard of the 'mandate of the people'. Since then, there have been several instances when he and Opposition MPs clashed on a regular basis. In August 2023, Dhankhar told the Opposition that he 'could not and would not' direct Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be present in the House as it was the PM's prerogative, like any other MP, to come to Parliament. He made this statement as the Opposition benches continued to demand the PM's presence in the Rajya Sabha to address them on the issue of violence in Manipur. Ties between the Rajya Sabha Chairman and the Opposition hit a low during the Winter Session of 2023 when 146 MPs were suspended from both Houses of Parliament, mostly over their demand for Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement on a Parliament security breach, followed by a discussion on the matter. It was the highest-ever number of suspensions in a Parliament session. For the BJP, Dhankhar did not serve the purpose he was elected for. Says political analyst Amitabh Tewari: "For the BJP, Dhankhar did not serve the purpose he was elected for. Despite his farmer background, he was unable to influence agitators. He became too abrasive and partisan in the House.' People faced problems during YSRCP' rule
Visakhapatnam: Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu said that the state's economic situation was very miserable under the previous government's tenure and that it's their responsibility to bring it back to normal. Speaking at a door-to-door programme 'suparipalanalo tholi adugu' organised to mark the completion of a year of the coalition government, the minister said that people who were fed up of the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's rule gave the largest majority to the alliance. He campaigned at Gurrampalem under the Pendurthi constituency and enquired about the implementation of Super Six schemes by the state governmen. Speaking at the public meeting held later, the minister said that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is organising the 'suparipalanalo tholi adugu' programme with an aim to understand the problems of the people at the ground level and resolving them. He alleged that people faced a lot of problems due to Jagan Mohan Reddy between 2019 and 2024 as he had no political experience. The Agriculture Minister stated that all the systems in the state were weakened by the YSRCP and Jagan Mohan Reddy incurred debts to the tune of Rs 12 lakh crore and destroyed the economy. Despite the challenges, the NDA government is implementing Super Six as promised, he underlined. The minister said that while the pension was increased by Rs 250 per year during the YSRCP government, it was increased by Rs 1,000 for beneficiaries at once as soon as the NDA government came to power. Even as the government does not have funds to implement the free bus scheme, the minister said, the scheme will come into force from August.

Sarpanches demand release of Rs 1,121 cr Central funds
Guntur: Sarpanches from across Andhra Pradesh on Monday submitted petitions to district collectors, appealing for the release of Rs 1,121 crore in 15th Finance Commission funds from the Central government, which have been pending since December last year. They said that despite repeated appeals to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and senior officials in the panchayat raj department, their pleas have gone unanswered for the past seven months. Under the leadership of Dr Jasti Veeranjaneyulu, national vice-president of All India Panchayat Parishad and chief advisor to the Andhra Pradesh Sarpanches Welfare Association, sarpanchs from Guntur district, cutting across party lines, submitted a memorandum to district collector S Nagalakshmi during the 'Spandana' grievances redressal programme. The sarpanches appealed to collector Nagalakshmi to facilitate the immediate release of the Central government's 15th Finance Commission funds, sent in December last year, to support the development of the panchayats. Speaking to the media outside the collector's office, Dr Jasti Veeranjanelu expressed dismay that the Rs 1,121 crore released by the central government in December last year has yet to be credited to the panchayat accounts. He criticised the practice of merely issuing government orders (GOs) and administrative approvals without disbursing the funds, calling it unreasonable. He also stated that there is little hope of receiving another Rs 1,000 crore expected from the Central government in July of the current financial year. Dr Veeranjanelu revealed that during a recent meeting with senior officials of the Union ministry of panchayat raj in Delhi, he was informed that the next tranche of Rs 1,000 crore would only be transferred if gram panchayats spent the funds received last year and submitted the utilisation certificates. Collector Nagalakshmi responded positively to the sarpanches' concerns, assuring them that she would bring the matter to the attention of the government and take immediate steps for a resolution.
