Ross Hodge lands commitment from North Dakota State transfer Treysen Eaglestaff

Dominion Post22-04-2025
MORGANTOWN — Ross Hodge added another critical piece to the West Virginia men's basketball roster with a commitment from highly sought after North Dakota transfer guard Treysen Eaglestaff.
Eaglestaff, 6-foot-6, 190-pounds, originally committed to South Carolina March 30 but backed off that pledge and drew interest from a long list of schools including Kentucky, Gonzaga, Iowa, BYU and others once he opened things up April 16.
The Mountaineers then were able to get Eaglestaff on campus for an official visit April 18-19 and were able to close the door on his recruitment by securing his commitment.
Eaglestaff was one of the most prolific scorers in college basketball last season averaging 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 41.6% from the floor and 35.9% from three.
That included 40 points in a losing effort against Alabama and a 51-point outburst to help lead his team to a win against South Dakota State in the Summit League tournament.
The North Dakota native started a total of 75 games of the 87 games he appeared in during his three years at the college level including starting every game in the past two seasons.
Eaglestaff showed significant improvement in each year at the college level including averaging 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists as a true freshman where he shot 39.8% from the floor and 34.5% from three.
As a sophomore, Eaglestaff was elevated to a starting role and averaged 14.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 43.4% and 38.3% from deep prior to last season.
A highly skilled guard that can score in bunches. He is a long, athletic guard that can put the ball in the basket from all three levels of the floor. He can score off the bounce to the rim and can use his size and length to finish in a crowd. Displays the ability to get the ball into the paint where he can finish or distribute the basketball when drawing an extra defender.
Eaglestaff is a skilled passer and also is an effective three-point shooter either off the catch or in spot up situations or even creating his own shot.
Overall, Eagelstaff is the eighth transfer addition for Hodge since he took over the program joining UNC Wilmington center Harlan Obioha, North Texas forward Brenen Lorient, Chattanooga guard Honor Huff, Troy forward Jackson Fields, North Texas guard Jasper Floyd and St. Bonaventure wing Chance Moore. Allen (Tx.) 2025 forward Deandre Thomas also has signed.
Eaglestaff has one year of eligibility remaining in his college career.

Three rising SEC powers that could earn College Football Playoff bid in 2025

In the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoffs last year, the Southeastern Conference had three teams vying for a spot in the national championship game. Tennessee joined Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Texas and Oklahoma as the only current SEC programs to reach the CFP since its inception during the 2014-2015 season. That could change in 2025, as several contenders are building strong rosters in preparation for this year's campaign. As the SEC officially opens the regular season in 54 days, when Missouri takes on Central Arkansas, teams across the league will attempt to claw through the brutal conference slate to make their first CFP appearance. Here are the SEC teams that could finish atop the league and earn a bid to this year's playoffs: 1. Texas A&M With quarterback Marcel Reed returning for his sophomore season, Texas A&M is positioned to make noise in the program's second year under head coach Mike Elko. To combat the loss of production at wide receiver, Elko landed talented transfers like former NC State wideout KC Concepcion. The former ACC Rookie of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year was ranked as the No. 6 wide receiver in the transfer portal by 247 Sports. Additional commits such as former Mississippi State wideout Mario Craver and the return of running backs Le'Veon Moss and Rueben Owens II will provide Elko's offense with electric playmakers in 2025. The defense is nothing to glance over either, as multiple standout transfers like defensive backs Jordan Shaw (Washington) and Julian Humphrey (Georgia) add tremendously to the Aggies' defensive unit. Texas A&M's schedule is also considerably favorable, besides the three important road tests at Notre Dame, LSU and Texas. If Elko and company can steal one of those difficult road games, the program will be in the race for a potential bid into the CFP this season. 2. South Carolina South Carolina is one of the most underrated teams in the country this season. The Gamecocks return a talented gunslinger in quarterback LaNorris Sellers for his sophomore campaign, after securing the SEC Freshman of the Year (coaches) award and the FWAA (Football Writers Association of America) National Freshman Offensive Player of the Year in 2024. As one of the most feared EDGE rushers in the country, Dylan Stewart's dominance on the gridiron for South Carolina has garnered much attention from NFL scouts. Pro Football Focus projects him to become a top-five pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, as he continues to wreak havoc against opposing offenses. While the stars are aligning for South Carolina's roster this season, the offensive line will need to step up and stay healthy in the upcoming year to protect Sellers, which should keep the defense off the field and give Stewart time to do what he does best. The schedule is brutal for the Gamecocks in 2025, with contests against LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, Texas A&M and Clemson, but the program in Columbia, S.C., could shock the country with multiple upsets. If head coach Shane Beamer can lead his teams to nine wins with a strength of schedule ranked No. 7 per On3 Sports, it is going to be difficult not to put the program in contention for an at-large bid. 3. Ole Miss Rebels Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels have been so close to making the CFP in recent years, but continue to fall just short of obtaining a bid. The program has struggled during the big moments, but this year could be a different story. After putting on a showcase in the Rebels' 28-10 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs in 2024, sophomore signal-caller Austin Simmons will take the snaps for Kiffin's fast-tempo offense heading into this year's campaign. Simmons has a cannon for an arm and has displayed true poise in moments where he stepped in for Jaxson Dart last season. Heading into the offseason, the program lost much production on both sides of the ball, but the man known as the master of the transfer portal worked his magic to bring in the No. 3 transfer class in the country, according to On3 Sports. The return of leaders like linebacker Suntarine Perkins and wideout Cayden Lee will be integral this season, as the Rebs travel to Georgia and Oklahoma. However, the schedule is mighty favorable if all the pieces come together like most predict. Ole Miss fans have been anxiously awaiting the moment that Kiffin brings home a national title to Oxford, Miss., but the time for waiting could finally be over in 2025. Clemson football 2026 target, 4-star DL Bryce Perry-Wright announces commitment

The Clemson Tigers and coach Dabo Swinney had long been considered the favorite to land elite four-star defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright in the 2026 recruiting cycle. But on Saturday, Perry-Wright announced he was committing elsewhere. The 6-foot-2, 250-pound lineman is headed to College Station to play for Texas A&M after a late push by the Aggies this week. Advertisement Perry-Wright announced his decision in a live stream on 247Sports' YouTube channel. The Texas Longhorns and Miami Hurricanes were the other finalists for Perry-Wright. It's a disappointing loss for Clemson on the recruiting trail after a hot stretch in June when the Tigers added five commitments: four-star defensive lineman Keshawn Stancil (Clayton, North Carolina), four-star EDGE Dre Quinn (Buford, Georgia), three-star defensive lineman JR Hardrick (South Pittsburg, Tennessee), and four-star offensive linemen Leo Delaney and Carter Scruggs. Perry-Wright is the nation's No. 2 defensive lineman in 247Sports' player ratings for the 2026 class and is ranked as the No. 32 overall recruit. Rivals ranks him the No. 5 lineman and the No. 33 overall recruit. Perry-Wright had received a crystal ball prediction to sign with Clemson in late March, but Rivals recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction on Wednesday that the Peach State native would flip to Texas A&M. Four-star safety Tylan Wilson names Clemson in his final three schools

Clemson football's 2026 recruiting class is closing in on some key decisions in the secondary, with two of their top uncommitted safety targets set to announce where they'll play college football later this month. Four-star Tylan Wilson trimmed his list to three schools on Wednesday, putting Clemson in the mix alongside Texas A&M and Arkansas. The Georgia native has been on Clemson's radar since he picked up an offer in January and he was on campus for the Tigers' major official visit weekend in early June — a visit that helped solidify Clemson's spot among his top choices. Wilson is scheduled to announce his decision on July 18. According to 247Sports, he's the No. 221 overall prospect and ranks No. 17 among safeties in the 2026 cycle. Advertisement The other top name left on the board is four-star Blake Stewart, who is also nearing the end of his recruitment. Stewart plans to reveal his commitment on July 13, with Clemson battling Miami and Vanderbilt for his pledge. The Tigers are believed to be in a strong position with Stewart, who Rivals ranks as the No. 149 player overall and the No. 10 safety in the country. Clemson has already secured two safeties in the current class, so there's only room for one more addition at the position. With spots limited, landing either Wilson or Stewart would close out the position group in strong fashion for safeties coach Mickey Conn and the defensive staff. The next two weeks will be crucial as the Tigers try to lock in one of their final defensive pieces for what's shaping up to be another highly ranked recruiting class.
