MUMBAI: SHIV Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said he and his cousin, MNS chief Raj Thackeray, have joined forces in the interest of 'Marathi pride' while sharing a political stage with him after nearly 20 years. On the rollback of the three-language formula in Maharashtra, both brothers said the BJP-led government had no other option. 'The government rolled back the decision on the three-language formula due to the strong unity shown by Marathi people. This decision was a precursor to the plan of separating Mumbai from Maharashtra,' the MNS chief said, with Uddhav seated next. Raj, in a lighter vein, credited Fadnavis with bringing him and Uddhav together, a feat even Balasaheb Thackeray could not accomplish. EPS: Open to aligning with all parties to oust DMK government
CHENNAI: After Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that the chief minister candidate will indeed be from the AIADMK, it is not right for anyone (in the BJP) to make contradictory statements, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) said on Saturday during the unveiling of the logo and jingle of the party's state-wide campaign 'Let's Protect the People, Let's Save Tamil Nadu' at the party headquarters. He was responding to a question from reporters on the resistance among a section of the BJP to the chief minister candidate being from the AIADMK. 'The decisions are made in Delhi,' Palaniswami said. Meanwhile, Palaniswami also said the party is happy to include those with similar objective of defeating the DMK, in response to a question on whether the AIADMK would extend an invitation to TVK to form an alliance. 'We are open to aligning with all parties that seek to oust the anti-people DMK regime. We would be happy to ally with anyone who shares this objective. They too must cooperate for the larger cause.' Actor Vijay, who on Friday had said that his party will never form an alliance with the BJP and the DMK. As part of the campaign, EPS will visit 33 Assembly constituencies, beginning from Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district on July 7 and concluding in Pattukkottai, Thanjavur district, on July 23. 'I always stand with the people. This campaign will galvanise support and trigger major political change in the coming elections,' he told reporters. Hitting out at Chief Minister MK Stalin, Palanisswami said, 'I follow in the footsteps of MGR, who launched this movement (AIADMK) for the welfare of the people. This campaign is aimed at ending the DMK's destructive regime.' He urged all parties that seek to remove the DMK from power to join hands with the AIADMK.

Uddhav's Mumbai rally against Hindi imposition encouraging, says CM Stalin
CHENNAI: DMK president and Chief Minister MK Stalin said in a tweet on Saturday that the language war waged by the DMK and the people of Tamil Nadu against Hindi imposition has transcended state boundaries and sparked protests in Maharashtra. He was referring to the rally against Hindi imposition in Mumbai led by Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday. He further said the BJP, which disregards the law, says it would allocate funds only if Tamil Nadu schools agree to teach Hindi as the third language. However, in a state which is ruled by BJP itself, it had to back down fearing public backlash. Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray jointly participated in a rally in Mumbai to celebrate the victory after the Maharashtra state government rolled back its decision to introduce Hindi as the third language in primary schools. Referring to Raj Thackeray's questions at the rally- 'What is the third language in UP or Rajasthan?' and 'Why is Hindi being forced on non-Hindi-speaking states while Hindi-speaking states remain economically backward?', Stalin said, 'I know the union government, which gives preference to developing Hindi and Sanskrit, will have no answers to these questions.' 'Will the union government shed its vindictive approach of insisting on the three-language policy under the NEP and release the Rs 2,152 crore SSA funds to Tamil Nadu?' the CM asked.
