WWE Star Suffers Devastating Injury At SummerSlam, Out of Action Indefinitely
The Catastrophic Injury at SummerSlam
The Austrian powerhouse's nightmare unfolded during his championship defense against CM Punk at SummerSlam's opening night. Gunther suffered a severe facial injury after a brutal table spot that left him bloodied and battered. The visual of 'The Ring General" emerging from beneath the announcement table with crimson streaming down his face raised concerns.
WWE commentator Michael Cole delivered the sobering update to the RAW audience, revealing the full extent of Gunther's injuries.
Cole announced that the former champion had suffered 'a septal hematoma and orbital blowout fracture" during his clash with CM Punk, injuries severe enough to sideline him for an indefinite period.
A Chaotic Championship Night
The night pushed Gunther to the sidelines also marked the end of his impressive 53-day World Heavyweight Championship reign. After absorbing punishment throughout the grueling encounter, he ultimately succumbed to CM Punk's relentless assault, losing his coveted title in heartbreaking fashion.
However, the chaos didn't end there, as Seth Rollins immediately capitalised on the situation, cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase to steal the championship from a vulnerable Punk.
The Reality Behind the Storyline
While the on-screen narrative presents a clear cause for Gunther's absence, wrestling insiders have revealed a more complex situation. According to reports from Wrestling Observer , the bloody conclusion to the Gunther-Punk match was strategically planned to provide storyline justification for the Austrian's time away. Gunther was already scheduled to undergo legitimate nose surgery.
The wrestling veteran had been dealing with a pre-existing nose issue that required surgical intervention, making the SummerSlam angle a convenient cover for his necessary medical procedure.
End of a Dominant Era
Gunther's forced absence concludes one of the most impressive championship runs in recent WWE history. Before capturing the World Heavyweight Title, he held the Intercontinental Championship for a record-shattering 666 days, establishing himself as one of WWE's most physically dominant and technically proficient performers. His hard-hitting European style and methodical approach had made him a cornerstone of Monday Night RAW programming.
The timing of his injury creates significant ripple effects throughout WWE's creative landscape, as storylines will need to be restructured around his absence. Currently, no official timetable has been provided for Gunther's return to action, leaving the wrestling world anxiously awaiting updates on his recovery progress.
As WWE moves forward without one of its most reliable main event players, fans can only hope that Gunther will make a full recovery and return to reclaim his position at the top of the company's hierarchy.

Is Brock Lesnar Back In WWE? Reason Behind His SummerSlam Appearance Explained
The WWE SummerSlam held its biggest surprise till the absolute end when Brock Lesnar, one of the icons in the company's history, made an appearance. Though Lesnar hasn't wrestled in WWE since losing to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2023, his appearance came out as a big surprise as no rumour or media report had hinted about his return. Lesnar has been out of action after his name came up in early 2024 in the Janel Grant lawsuit involving WWE and Vince McMahon. However, a return at the end of the SummerSlam is a big hint about what the future may hold for him. As per Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select even those inside the WWE circle weren't aware of his return on Sunday. "The John Cena vs Cody Rhodes main event was being kept very quiet, even from writers, producers, staff, and production crew," he said. "As of [Sunday] evening, a number of those same people still hadn't heard anything about Brock Lesnar, and wondered if The Rock was making an appearance." Lesnar was written off storylines by the WWE even though he was never named as a defendant and hasn't faced any criminal charges in the Janel Grant case. Lesnar was to feature in both the 2024 Royal Rumble and WrestleMania XL match with Guntherbut the lawsuit forced those in charge to write him off the storyline. BROCK. LESNAR. IS. BACK. HERE COMES THE PAIN! — WWE (@WWE) August 4, 2025 His surprise re-entry into the storyline doesn't answer many questions but it does hint that a resolution has been achieved. As per Wrestling Observer Radio, Lesnar has been cleared from the legal aspect; hence, efforts are being made to add him to the storyline. "Four weeks ago, WWE Legal cleared him (Brock Lesnar). As far as why, I don't know," said Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. "Obviously everything relates to the Janel Grant lawsuit, and WWE Legal is either confident that their thing goes to arbitration and Lesnar's not a factor at that point. Or they're close to a settlement, and at that point, Lesnar's not a factor."

The latest episode of WWE Raw was held at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, on August 4, with multiple exciting battles held amidst the persisting fever of the two-day premier SummerSlam 2025. From a Heavyweight Championship tussle between Seth Rollins and LA Knight interrupted by CM Punk to an intense Women's Tag Team Championship face-off, this week's Monday Night Raw wasn't short of action at all. Here's how the results shaped up at the thrilling Raw episode in New York. Seth Rollins and LA Knight battled it out for the World Heavyweight Championship. The two wrestlers eyeing the coveted silverware were never going to easily relent, as they landed heavy moves on each other right from the beginning. Initially, Rollins held the upper hand in the intense fight. However, just as Knight was facing the wrath of his opponent, CM Punk came out to his rescue after jumping from the barricade and attacking The Visionary. Soon, Rollins was awarded the win due to disqualification amid chaotic scenes, where Bron Breakker came out for The Visionary and gave Punk a Spear. Knight was also hit in the process. Roman Reigns then appeared and smashed both Breakker and Bronson Reed. The Visionary then got back at Reigns before the night came to an end. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship holders, arrived at the ring before the Judgment Day duo of Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez also appeared and challenged the Alliance of Convenience. Following permission from Pearce for an official fight, Flair and Bliss stood tall over their opponents, unleashing some power-packed moves. Bliss hit a decisive Sister Abigail on Perez and secured victory for her team to retain the championship crown. Rusev vs Sheamus Earlier at Monday Night Raw, Rusev took on Sheamus in an intense men's singles rematch in their ongoing feud. The two wrestlers went toe to toe and refused to concede ground so much that the battle ended in a rare draw after a Double Count Out. The two giants continued beating each other until officials broke them apart. Penta vs Grayson Waller In the Penta vs Grayson Waller face-off, one could see Waller shoving off Penta initially before he received a waist-lock. The two wrestlers traded knees and produced a double Clothesline. Penta, however, came up with a handspring followed by a Mexican Destroyer and finally a corkscrew flip piledriver to enter a pinfall and secure his triumph. Dominik Mysterio vs Dragon Lee Dominik Mysterio and Dragon Lee contested an intense fight, where the fortunes shifted back and forth after Dirty Dom choked Lee on the middle rope and went for the famous 619. Lee somehow dodged the move and almost gained the ascendancy. However, just then, an interference from three El Grande Americanos gave Junior Mysterio the opening, which he took advantage of and bagged the victory after a pinfall. Image via WWE: Bronson Reed, Paul Heyman, Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker The July 4th segment of Monday Night Raw aired live from the Barclays Center in New York. And in the main event, Seth Rollins defended his World Heavyweight Title against LA Knight in what was a chaotic outing and ended in disqualification. For the unversed, 'The Visionary' faked his knee injury and pulled off 'the ruse of the century' to cash in his Money in the Bank contract on CM Punk after he beat Gunther in the main event of Night 1 of SummerSlam. The match was set specifically as when Rollins fooled the WWE Universe about his injury, he was facing Knight at Saturday Night's Main Event. The match, set up as the main event with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed banned from the ringside, was hard-fought, with Knight nearly winning multiple times. Seth Rollins' faction stands tall after destroying Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and LA Knight on Raw As Seth Rollins was about to curb-stomp LA Knight on exposed concrete, CM Punk stormed in and attacked him, causing a disqualification and handing Knight another technical win. A furious Knight pulled Punk off, sparking a chaotic brawl. Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker rushed in, followed by Roman Reigns, who took out Reed and clashed with Breakker. Rollins initially avoided Reigns but later returned to hit a curb-stomp. Breakker then speared Reigns, and Reed followed with multiple Tsunamis, leaving Reigns down to end the show. But that wasn't it! Reed once again stole Reigns' sneakers, just like he did before SummerSlam, adding Reigns' Jordan 1s to his growing collection while standing tall. Meanwhile, Punk, who also took a beating from Rollins' faction, chose to find humor in the chaos. He posted an Instagram story featuring a photo of his shoes still on his feet, with the caption : 'Atleast I still have my shoes.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo Roman Reigns is reportedly taking another break from WWE After securing a big tag team win alongside Jey Uso at SummerSlam Night 1, Roman Reigns is reportedly stepping away from WWE again, this time for Hollywood. Reigns is set to play Akuma in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter film, with shooting scheduled to begin this August in Australia. Though WWE hasn't officially confirmed his time off, Reigns is expected to be absent for about three and a half months. He's still being advertised for Survivor Series on November 22, 2025, aligning with a typical film production timeline. Moreover, his recent appearance on Raw, where he got destroyed by Rollins' faction, may have been his last in-ring moment for a while.
