‘Scenes of Horror': Israel Shoots Down More Palestinians Scrambling for Aid

Morocco World3 days ago
Rabat – Israeli Occupation Forces have killed at least 73 Palestinians since early Wednesday in the Gaza Strip, including 33 people who were seeking food aid, according to medical sources.
Witnesses say they were shot without warning while waiting at aid distribution points managed by the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is a common occurrence that has heeded stark warnings by international humanitarian organizations.
Al Jazeera reporter Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting from Deir el-Balah, described 'scenes of horror' as desperate Palestinians gathered at GHF-run aid centers hoping to receive food. 'They waited for hours just hoping to get their hands on basic food supplies, only to be met with sudden and unprovoked gunfire.'
Survivors told Al Jazeera that bullets suddenly tore through the crowds, and many ran in panic, trying to find cover. Emergency teams could not reach the area because of the intense shooting, leaving many wounded without help.
An investigation by the Associated Press (AP) revealed that some of the security guards protecting GHF distribution sites are US contractors who use live bullets, stun grenades, and pepper spray on Palestinians, even when there is no threat.
Two American contractors interviewed by AP said they felt the practices were dangerous and irresponsible. 'Security staff hired were often unqualified, unvetted, heavily armed and seemed to have an open license to do whatever they wished,' read the report.
One contractor also said Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) are using the aid system to gather information. Each aid site is watched by cameras, and the footage is monitored in real time by both Israeli soldiers and American analysts. Some of these cameras are reportedly equipped with facial recognition technology.
Last week, an investigation by Israeli newspaper Haaretz included testimonies from Israeli soldiers who said they were ordered to shoot at unarmed Palestinians waiting for aid. These reports further increase concerns about how humanitarian efforts are being handled in Gaza.
Human rights groups and aid organizations have repeatedly warned that the situation in Gaza is becoming worse, with severe shortages of food, water, and medical care. Many families are relying entirely on humanitarian aid to survive, which is far too little and comes too late.

ISA Queer Network in Rabat Sparks Backlash Over Cultural and Religious Values

Rabat — The International Sociological Association (ISA) has announced the creation of a new internal network, the Queer ISA Network (QISA), designed to support queer members within the association. The launch was announced during the ISA's Fifth Sociology Forum, which will take place from July 6 to 11 at Mohammed V University in Rabat. The initiative, initially publicized in a now-deleted post on ISA's official Facebook page, has sparked widespread criticism among Moroccans, many of whom argued that the move is at odds with the country's conservative and Islamic cultural values. The association said the QISA network 'is a new initiative aimed at connecting members with diverse sexual orientations within the International Sociological Association (ISA) across research committees, generations, and In its announcement, ISA described the network as 'a shared space for collaboration, mutual support, and academic inclusivity.' Participants at the forum were invited to attend the inaugural meeting of the network on Monday. ISA did not disclose the meeting's exact location in the public announcement, noting instead that details would be shared directly with those interested. The launch of QISA comes shortly after another high-profile ISA decision: the suspension of the Israeli Sociological Association's membership in response to its genocidal assault on Gaza. In a statement issued ahead of the Rabat forum, ISA condemned 'Israel's genocide in Gaza' and called for an end to the country's 'military occupation and all colonial practices in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria.' ISA also emphasized that it maintains no institutional ties with Israeli public bodies and reaffirmed its opposition to the ongoing violence in Gaza. The inclusion of Israeli representatives at previous ISA events had already provoked criticism in Morocco, with a group of Moroccan sociologists boycotting the Rabat forum in protest. In a joint statement, several Moroccan sociologists also denounced the participation of Israelis at the event, arguing that Morocco's role as host should reflect the nation's values and support for the Palestinian cause. The International Sociological Association (ISA) was founded in 1949 under the auspices of UNESCO. It is a member of the International Science Council and has NGO consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) .

Hamas Says It is Ready for Immediate Gaza Ceasefire Talks

Mrirt — In a new development in Israel's devastating genocide on Gaza, Hamas announced Friday evening that it will begin ceasefire negotiations with Israel immediately after receiving a new proposal from international mediators. The Palestinian militant group said it completed internal discussions and consultations with other factions about the latest mediator's proposal to reach a ceasefire in the war-torn Gaza. 'Hamas is fully prepared, with all seriousness, to immediately enter a new round of negotiations on the mechanism for implementing this framework,' the Palestinian group said in a statement according to Al Jazeera. The announcement comes just days before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to Washington on Monday to meet with US President Donald Trump. Trump says he is pushing for a ceasefire in Gaza, which has suffered devastating damage after nearly 21 months of genocidal assaults by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF). However, the constant flow of money and arms backing that the US has provided as Israel's closest ally sends an entirely different message. The new proposal includes a 60-day truce period, with Hamas releasing half of the Israeli hostages still alive in exchange for Israel freeing Palestinian prisoners from its jails. The genocide continues Despite the diplomatic progress, the IOF continued their relentless genocidal campaign across the besieged enclave on Friday, carrying out more attacks on Palestinians scrambling to survive in the dire conditions. Gaza's Civil Defense reported that 52 Palestinians were murdered in airstrikes, bombing raids, and gunfire, including 11 people killed near humanitarian aid sites. The genocide has left Gaza's population facing a severe, inhumane situation with shortages of food, water, and medical supplies. International aid organizations have struggled to deliver assistance to civilians trapped in the war zone. Three days ago, reports surfaced that the IOF once again was shooting at people waiting for aid distribution at points managed by the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) without warning. This has become a common occurrence, so much so that the IOF have even admitted they were instructed to do so to global media. The ceasefire proposal represents the most significant diplomatic breakthrough in months of stalled negotiations, primarily delayed by the Israeli side. Previous attempts to broker a lasting truce have collapsed over disagreements about prisoner exchanges, troop withdrawals, and reconstruction plans. A groundbreaking report A new report from the United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory outlines how various corporations are supporting Israel's displacement of Palestinians and military campaign in Gaza — actions that violate international law and are described in the report as genocidal. The report, compiled by Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese and set to be formally presented at a press briefing in Geneva on Thursday, identifies 48 companies involved, including major US technology firms such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet Inc. — the parent company of Google. The investigation also produced a database of over 1,000 corporate entities linked to these activities. '[Israel's] indefinite occupation has become an ideal environment for weapons manufacturers and Big Tech firms — marked by high demand, minimal regulation, and no accountability — allowing private investors and institutions, both public and private, to profit without restraint,' Albanese asserts in the report. King Mohammed VI Congratulates President Trump on US Independence Day

Mrirt — King Mohammed VI has sent a congratulatory message to US President Donald Trump on his country's Independence Day, celebrating the strong ties between the two nations. The King expressed warm congratulations and sincere wishes for health and happiness to President Trump on behalf of himself and the Moroccan people. The monarch also wished continued progress and prosperity for the American people under Trump's leadership. The Moroccan King took the opportunity to commend the deep historical bonds that connect Morocco and the US, stressing that these ties rest on solid friendship, constructive cooperation, and mutual respect. 'Our shared commitment to developing these relations has brought new momentum to our strategic partnership, paving the way for closer cooperation in various areas of common interest to serve stability and development at regional and international levels,' the King said. The King reaffirmed his strong determination to continue working closely with Trump to strengthen the distinguished relations between Morocco and the US. Today, their relationship spans multiple areas, including trade, security cooperation, and diplomatic coordination on regional issues in North Africa and the Middle East. In 1777, Sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Abdellah of Morocco acknowledged the independence of the newly formed US, establishing a long-standing relationship between the two countries. This recognition was followed by the Treaty of Friendship and Peace in 1786, which remains the longest unbroken treaty of friendship in US history. Earlier this year, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution to celebrate Morocco as 'the first country to officially recognize the United States on December 1, 1777.' The resolution was issued to mark 250 years of diplomatic relationships between the two countries in 2027. The Trump administration recognized Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara in 2020, which further strengthened ties.
